There is only ONE theory I have explaining the presence of Spartan-IIIs on Reach.

Part of Alpha or Beta company wasn't on the op that the rest of their squad met their demise on. How utterly...frustrating.

Too many inconsistencies come from this:

S-IIIs can't wear MJOLNIR Armor. Their bodies aren't durable enough.

The only S-IIIs (exception of Tom and Lucy) alive at the time of Reach were the Gamma-Spartans, who were weeks away from finishing training. (Reach was mere weeks away from the happenings in Ghosts of Onyx)

If they're class two, that means somebody replaced Mendez for training them. They'd be the first canon Class IIs, because I could be wrong but I think Yasmine isn't canonical.

I have a feeling they're not part of the Spartan-II class that only 33 candidates graduated from. They don't even know eachother, it seems. I'll keep my eyes peeled though
