  1. Another Failed Attack on Harakeke Metru! Despite three out of seven units in the military forces of Luri-Metru being water resistant, in another stroke of terrible luck for the would-be conquerors, their three weakest units fought the battle, the light attack ability of those units made worse by their lack of water resistance. Luri-Metru 1st Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. No Water Resistance 2nd Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. No Water Resistance 3rd Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. No Water Resistance Total: 0 attack. Harakeke Metru 2nd Squad (Medium Defense): 4 defense. 3rd Squad (Light Defense): 2 defense. 1st Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense): 12 defense. Total: 18 defense. Widget totals updated. New Artakha, Tuyet Nui, and Kaukau Falls each purchase a Large Workshop. Nui Gaga and Harakeke Metru both purchase a Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense).
  2. It's late in Toarobot18 town, and I've been unable to access the internet until now. Since I have to get up early tomorrow, I will be delaying the results. They will be edited into this post.
  3. Purchase processed. A day of peace. Widget totals updated. Koburg and Manas Metru both purchase a Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense). Nui Gaga purchases a Division (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense). New Tahu purchases a Division (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense, Light Defense).
  4. Luri-Metru Attempts to Conquer Colony! Had the matoran from Luri-Metru been prepared to face the watery terrain before them, this battle would have been extremely close, ending in a stalemate which would have preserved the limited freedom that Harakeke Metru retains. As it happened, though, neither of Luri-Metru's water resistant units participated in the action, and Harakeke had no trouble at all in winning the fight. Luri-Metru 2nd Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. No Water Resistance 3rd Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. No Water Resistance 4th Battalion (Heavy Attack, Heavy Attack): 12 attack. No Water Resistance Total: 0 attack. Harakeke Metru 2nd Squad (Medium Defense): 4 defense. 3rd Squad (Light Defense): 2 defense. 1st Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense): 12 defense. Total: 18 defense. Widget totals updated. Tuyet Nui and Kaukau Falls both purchase a Battalion with (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense). Harakeke Metru purchases a Large Workshop. By the way, Shadowhawk, you're probably already aware of this, but just in case, I thought I would point out that you are free to move widgets between Marauder's Waste and Matoro-Koro if you would like to.
  5. Sorry about that. You're right, I probably could have put a couple breaks in there. I edited in one as a start. Thinking about the original topic a little more, I began to wonder if there has ever been any canon reference to the differences in abilities between the Matoran types, though I still think the sets provide more than enough evidence as to what those differences would be. Does anybody remember a statement in any form of media about the loss of Matoran capability caused by their degradation in the Matoran Spheres, or the sort of benefits rebuilding the Matoran provided?
  6. I am not very familiar with the arguments made back in the day, or the state of the Maori language then or now, but if the culture is disappearing, Lego's temporary use of "Tohunga" might, hypothetically, even serve to preserve words that would otherwise be lost. For example, I would never have heard of the word "Tohunga" if it were not for Lego. If no one had ever told me it was a Maori word, I might have thought Lego made it up. Yet since I had not previously known the word's original meaning, my use of it in the Bionicle sense does not make me any less likely to use it in its original sense. When usage of the word is considered worldwide, my usage of the word would not reduce usage of the word in the original sense, but add more instances of the new usage to those existing of the old. An argument could be made that using "Tohunga" in the Bionicle sense erodes the original sense if the Maori people began to avoid using the word due to its new association with the Bionicle line. However, since Lego stopped using the name, it has become such a minor term in the Bionicle community that it seems very unlikely that the Bionicle sense would have any negative effect upon the degree to which the original word is used in its original sense. Confusion between the two meanings is also unlikely, not only due to its limited usage in the Bionicle sense, but also due to the obvious differences in context when the word is used. In summary, then, I would say that fan usage of the word "Tohunga" is extremely unlikely to cause its original meaning to erode and perhaps disappear. In fact, I might go so far as to say that our limited usage could have a positive effect on its preservation, in that if "Tohunga" disappeared from every last dictionary, I and others who learned the term and its history due to is short appropriation by Bionicle would still know it meant priest or expert in the Maori tongue. This is not to say that if Bionicle had continued officially and prominently using "Tohunga," as "Toa" is used now, it could not eventually have had a net negative effect, but I think that we shouldn't worry to much when someone starts the occasional topic on BZPower titled "In what ways were the Tohunga weakened?"
  7. It was used, though, and as far as I know, it is allowed. I am not familiar with the retconning that took place, but if the theory is that Tohunga only refers to Matoran on Mata Nui in their divided state, and someone wishes to, for example, write a fan fiction that takes place during that exact time period, and they wish to use the word, there shouldn't be a rule against it. They're not copywriting it or selling a product, and if someone is personally offended by the word's use (and not offended on behalf of others they assume would be offended), they can bring it up with the person who uses it. There are at least two perfectly defensible positions in the debate on the "ownership" of words by individuals or cultures.
  8. Even if Tohunga does mean "priest," and not "expert," I wonder what people would have thought had the English word for "priest" been used. That is, "priest." I suspect that would have been less of an issue. But since the Matoran are not really priests or experts, so that would not have made a very good species name for English speakers to whom the actual meaning of the word is readily obvious, perhaps Lego should have chosen a French word. On the other hand, that's not very good either. It would spoil the mystery for the French Bionicle fans. I guess the way to go would have been calling them the "sacerdotes." The ancient Romans wouldn't have complained, considering they are long dead. Though, there is the Vatican. And Latin doesn't fit the islander theme. To the question at hand, I would imagine that the original and rebuilt Matoran could indeed lift more, and also could run faster, reach higher, and do other things better as implied by the differences between the sets, and by the fact that the canon says the original and rebuilt forms were superior.
  9. I expected to vote for Lhikan & Kikanalo . . . pulled up images of all the finalists . . . considered voting for Maxilos & Spinax . . . and still voted for Lhikan & Kikanalo. Tahu Mata: Not enough articulation. Also, Lewa and Kopaka foreeeever! Exo-Toa: It's nice, but I can't see enjoying it as much on its own as I would other titans. Not enough character. Takanuva with Ussanui: Suffers from the same flexibility issues as Tahu Mata, though the vehicle makes him a little better. -> Lhikan & Kikanalo: Great looking toa with working elbows and knees, great looking steed for him to ride on. Toa Iruini: Also good, but doesn't have much of an advantage over Lhikan, doesn't have a steed, and those spinners fall off. Brutaka: I've never been much of a fan, but I can't really pinpoint why. Maybe it is because his head looks so tight against his torso. Maybe not. In any case, I prefer the two Being & Beast sets, both for their playability and appearances, but Brutaka may have been third. Maxilos & Spinax: My runner-up. I especially like his working torso pistons which remind me of the piston designs on the sides of the Mata/Nuva torso. In the end, though, I had to go with Lhikan & Kikanalo. Spinax is kind of hard to move around, especially if he's on the chain, and is rather sparsely built. Plus, having a beast the other character can ride on seems a little more fun. Takanuva Titan: Maybe I put him together wrong or something, but my Takanuva '08 always has his head flopping from side to side. The only way I can resolve the problem is to put his chin tight against his chest piece, so he is always looking down. If not for that, I might have put him over Brutaka. I don't like the Takadox heads, but that's a very minor issue for me. Mata Nui Canister Set: There's nothing really wrong with Mata Nui, though I'd rather his shoulder and ankle armor were a little more compact, but in the end, he is a toa, and I see no reason to favor him over a toa with a Kikanalo. He does have the Mask of Life, but Toa Ignika and Mata Nui Titan have the better versions of that. Tahu Stars: We're back to the fixed joints. I'm fine with that for a matoran, which is more or less what Tahu Stars is, but I can't give him the crown. Although I will say I really like the look when he has all the golden armor on, although that's taking pieces from the other Stars as well. Not that he looks bad with just his Golden Hau.
  10. Proposal: Each player must propose at least one rule per week. Every time a player makes a post in which there is at least one rule proposal, that player gets one Protodermis Vial. If it has been more than a week since a player proposed a rule, that player loses one Protodermis Vial. Players may have negative Protodermis Vials. The number of Protodermis Vials each player has will be kept in the first post.
  11. Purchases processed, widget totals updated. There was no combat today. New Artakha, Nui Gaga, and New Tahu each purchase a Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense). Graalok-Koro purchases two Armies, each with (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense).
  12. A few days ago I tried interpreting these symbols in two or three different ways and then ran them through some cypher breakers. No luck. Additionally, it looks like in at least one instance they took the same pattern and removed a couple symbols in order to make it look like the writing varied. Even if these symbols do end up getting assigned meanings later, for now it appears like they are simply being used to create the appearance of written language, and nothing more.
  13. Attack on New Tahu Fails Again! Though Luri-Metru raised a new battalion today, that battalion didn't get a chance to fight in the battle, and the forces of Luri-Metru ended up faring no better than they did in their previous colonization attempt. New Tahu's defense was slightly less spectacular than before, but it did the job, and New Tahu remains free and independent. Luri-Metru 1st Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. 3rd Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. 1st Division (Heavy Attack, Heavy Battle, Water Resistance): 11 attack. Total: 17 attack. New Tahu 2nd Squad (Medium Defense): 4 defense. 1st Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense): 12 defense. 3rd Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense): 12 defense. Total: 28 defense. Widget totals updated. Lia, Nui Gaga, and Harakeke Metru each purchase a Large Workshop. Koburg and Manas Metru each purchase a Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense).
  14. Widget totals updated. Lia and Nui Gaga each purchase a Large Workshop. New Artakha, New Tahu, Tuyet Nui, and Kaukau Falls each purchase a Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense).
  15. Valendale's proposal is now a rule.
  16. Tear down and purchases processed.
  17. I vote for Valendale's proposal.
  18. Workshop torn down and Factory purchase processed.
  19. Well, there isn't a rule establishing sign-ups as of yet, so yes, anyone can jump right in and propose or vote on a rule.
  20. Welcome to. . . BZNOMIC II A Toarobot18 Game! The first BZNomic had a decent run, but sadly passed away, probably partially due to complexity built into the game from the very beginning. BZNomic II allows for a fresh start with a simplified initial rule set. BZNomic is a game where the players themselves create the game. Though a few rules are set in stone, the rest are up to you, the players, to propose! Who knows what this game will become? Join and shape its (unity, duty) destiny! IRONCLAD RULES ETHICAL 1. No rule of this game may ever require or cause this game, its gameplay, or any player to violate a rule of BZPower or the Games & Trivia forum. 2. No rule of this game may ever make this game into a R.P.G. 3. No rule of this game may require a player to take or not take any action except within the topic which contains the game. 4. Rules shall not impose excessively burdensome requirements on players that would force them to consume large amounts of time playing. 5. Should a host or BZPower staff member decide that any rule violates one of the above four rules, that rule is considered to never have been a rule in the first place. Additionally, any rule of this game that would lead to this game being shut down for any reason other than its completion is also considered to have never been a rule. 6. Should a player prefer not to follow a particular rule, he may choose not to continue participating in this game rather than continue playing with that rule. No player or character can ever be prohibited from not participating in this game. 7. No rule may change the hosts of this game except with the consent of the hosts. 8. Except when a rule is invalid for some reason, such as due to the rules above, all players must obey all current rules at all times. THEMATIC 9. If a rule establishes any thematic element in this game, that element must fit within a Bionicle theme, so that as the game grows and matures it is clear that it belongs in this forum. Should a host decide that a rule has a thematic aspect that is obviously foreign to Bionicle, that rule is invalid. MECHANICAL 10. These rules are the "Ironclad Rules." Ironclad Rules can never be modified except by hosts or BZPower staff members in accordance with other Ironclad Rules. Ironclad Rules always take precedence over any other type of rule: between two contradicting rules, the Ironclad Rule always wins. No new rules can become Ironclad Rules, which were created by Toarobot18 to form the foundation for the game and are intended to be modified only when absolutely necessary. NORMAL RULES 1. Any BZPower member may propose a rule in this topic at any time. Whenever three BZPower members other than the member who proposed the rule post in this topic saying that they vote for the rule, the proposed rule becomes a rule of this game. 2. Whenever a member posts in this topic, they are considered to be playing the game, unless they state otherwise. A list of all players currently playing will be kept in the first post. 3. If a player dislikes a rule, he or she may vote against it, canceling out one vote for it. Votes on a proposal may go into the negatives. PLAYER LIST 1. Valendale 2. Toarobot18 3. Overscore 4. Neo ShadowVezon 5. 6. . .
  21. Widget totals updated. Lia, Nui Gaga, and New Tahu each purchase a Large Workshop.
  22. Purchase processed. Only by conquering a city, which transfers your attacking force to the city you conquered, or by having one of your cities conquered, which destroys all of your units in that city.
  23. Failed attack on New Tahu! The stars were aligned today for New Tahu, as the stronger three of its six military units were on guard when the forces of Luri-Metru marched up to the city in a failed attempt at colonization. Luri-Metru 1st Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. 3rd Battalion (Light Attack, Light Battle): 3 attack. 1st Division (Heavy Attack, Heavy Battle, Water Resistance): 11 attack. Total: 17 attack. New Tahu 4th Squad (Heavy Defense): 6 defense. 1st Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense): 12 defense. 2nd Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense): 12 defense. Total: 30 defense. Widget totals updated. Koburg, New Artakha, Harakeke Metru, Tuyet Nui, and Kaukau Falls each purchase a Battalion (Heavy Defense, Heavy Defense). Koburg, Manas Metru, and Harakeke Metru each purchase a Workshop.
