  1. So I've been looking through all the old D'Anda/Elliot comics and i see that all the masks are very worn. I think I'll do another Hau and fix some of the mistakes I made on the old one and this time I'll weather it, but the question is- what color should I do? I'm thinking either Gold, yellow, or infected...
  2. *EditI just completed hot-gluing mesh into the openings of the mask- It's not completely opaque from the outside, but it adds a little texture to the mask and somewhat obscures the face behind it.*actual edit: derp. Sorry again for the double-post. Need to fix that.
  3. Yeah, I figured the hoodie would be a pretty good touch. I'm considering, if I ever want to wear the mask anywhere, getting a zip-up red U-D-D hoodie to go with the mask and sword (whenever the sword is finished...)I actually had another, better picture of the mask but the angle showed much more of my room than I wanted to, including my Aperture's Requiem print on a nearby orange wall. so yeah... a little nerdy. Also you can't really see but the poster reflection of my bookcase includes some of my favorite Bionicles lined up on a shelf.
  4. Yeah, like I said it's just an idea. I'll need to research before I can start getting materials, and I may need TLG permission to sell them. However, if I could sell them it would be most excellent (with your permission of course?).Anyway, picture of the more-or-less-final mask!sorry bout the glare, it was the best shot of a ton that I took blind while trying to balance the mask just right...
  5. Sounds great, and absolute worst-case scenario I slop on some assorted colors, weather it up, and make it Infected! :PHaving done a fixer-upper on the paint, I declare V1 complete. I'll put up a pic or two to showcase.I think the next thing I'll do (probably not for a while) is create a mold, probably from fiberglass, and use it to experiment with different-materiel masks, like fiberglass, resin, plaster of paris, clay, etc. This would make it quicker and easier to make a mask, along with allowing for easier mistake correction. Mayhaps I could make a 2-piece pour mold and cast some masks? The possibilities are many.*editWhoops double-post. Very sorry.
  6. Argh. The more I think about my mask, the more I think I'll have to redo the paint. It's sloppy and the wrong color and there's still those lines. I've found a really good reference for weathering but don't want to over- or underdo it, any recommendations? I might leave it out entirely, but depending on how the repainting goes I might try weathering.
  7. I hadn't thought of sanding the edges down to the resin. I'll just have to live with the lines *twitch* and the somewhat poor paint job. I need to be more patient in letting it dry and to use thinner coats. :(Too late now I guess, maybe next mask I do whenever I do another. I'm eyeballing the Pakari, but I really like the Vahi too...Your Anon mask looks awesome, btw!
  8. Just got back from Cross Country camp and am now headed to Iowa in a few hours -.-However- I did manage to sand down and re-paint the one spot I screwed up earlier, and the Hau is finished! I may still try a few things on the lines that WON'T GO AWAY but it is, for all intents and purposes, done once dry. Don't have a way wear it but that's a different story.May post another pic later but it's not much different, just less shiny.
  9. Words of wisdom! Honestly though, I don't know if it'll hold the mask up. I'll try it though. I could just add an elastic strap or two...
  10. Hadn't thought of it... I have just a tiny amount of black left from something else and a bunch of gray from my Companion Cube, but no silver. Besides, I've never dome a weathering before, and I really don't want to screw this one up. Perhaps on another mask. My next priority is how to keep it on my face- it's heavy now!
  11. Nearly complete! It obviously needs more paintwork, but all the podging and casting and shtuff is done! However, i will be out of town for a while and not able to finish it.
  12. Eh. Too late on an inner coat of podge- it didn't seem to make a difference though. It's going really well, the only thing is that due to the shape of the mask and placement of the holes, I have to do it in small areas so it could take a while. Also, My fingertips are pretty much covered in plastic.
  13. Hm... just began casting and noticed something that may be a problem- The resin forms through heat, and the heat may be affecting the podge. There's a few tiny gaps in the mask that are filled only with podge and if the resin were to melt the podge it could be a problem... hope not.
  14. Oh I didn't buy it. Got cheaper stuff off Amazon with free shipping. Should be here 5ish tomorrow, then I can cast it and then prime and paint the mask!
  15. Woooow. Went to Michael's to buy casting resin and they had 16 oz for $32. Came back home, checked Amazon, and found a _32-oz_ container of the same variety for $22. Fail.
  16. WOW. That's way more impressive than my raggedy cardboard sword. Great job!No, I was wondering about the holes myself... I was thinking hot glue or podge, but I would need a different kind of podge or a lot of glue. Wood filler's a good bet, if a bit more expensive.
  17. Thanks a ton, but I have zero experience and honestly I'm amazed I manage not to screw anything up...Crunchy does costuming, the things he does I couldn't ever do. He has a lot more experience which is why his stuff is much better, he's the one to praise. Also yes, I do listen to real music. I'm also among the 56 percent of people who compulsively make up statistics. :PAnd yeah, let me know how the whole corrugated plastic thing goes, I'm looking for something different for swords. Also, still podging the Hau. Lots of podge. All the little seams are annoying and refuse to smooth out. It needs work.
  18. Yeah, my thought on the handle is I'll make it like that, but do something to make the shape better, maybe wrap something, I don't know...Hau is finished! Going to need quite a bit of work with podge and whatnot, but I didn't screw anything up and it is awesome! Will upload pics of the final mask.
  19. Hm. Picture's a little bigger than I expected. yeah anyway, here's the template slices. A little rough around the edges, but I've fixed that little issue for later construction. I'll have a finished sword soon, probably by the end of the week, then I think I'll put up its own topic and stop taking up space on yours, sorry bout that.Final sword will have 2 of each layer and will be smoother, sanded, podged, and spraypainted. Yup.
  20. I just went to Michael's and asked an employee if they carried plain cardboard. He took me to the back where they had a ton of cardboard waiting for recycling, if I'd been a little later it would've been gone. I just finished cutting out one of my template slices for the sword, will be finished with the smaller two pretty soon, will post pic.
  21. HUGE score on the cardboard- got about a half-dozen huge sheets of heavy-duty cardboard without creases or markings (though I had to fold them to fit them in the car. Best part- they were completely free.
  22. School is officially out! Now I have all the time I need to do the weapons!... Once I get cardboard. Also, Huna looks awesome. I'll be making some more masks over the summer and that may be one.
  23. I'm getting some soon, we go to Costco pretty often for all our groceries so I'll get a bunch of free boxes. I'm also going to hoard boxes now, but we just got rid of all our recycling and I didn't think to save any.Just a minor setback. Oh well. Also I forgot to put little "*edits" in the last post. Whoops.
  24. Speaking of glue, got some spray adhesive today to start construction on fire sword.I am now officially broke again though. At least I got all the stuff first!... I'm an cool dude. I don't have any cardboard.Hm. One point for the auto-correcter.
  25. Haaaaa I get it now! Crunchbite- Glitch in the System? I was just rereading that and I saw the name. It's been bugging me for quite a while now.
