i have to imagine that there'd be a ton of ponytails at a Devin Townsend concertwhat do you guys think of Poison The Wellp great stuff, especially when you consider that they basically invented modern metalcore
-
ponies, doctor who, and some quote. two of my least favorite fandoms, woohoono offense to you of course <3 errebody here

the holy mountain

lol okay, that was troll song anyway because Exoskeleton is actually the worst thing ever. dat awful guitar tone2/5 never liked Alice Cooper, like at all. it doesn't stick for me, nothing too special. competent, yes, but memorable, nawHysteria - Ceremony
-
3.5/5 maiden is classic, but i'm not the biggest fan of traditional heavy metal. still pretty good thoughPrimal Reflector - Exoskeleton
-
3.5/5 the main riff is pretty massive, i like it. again with the southern influence, it works well with the song's stomping rhythm. it's too long for it's own good though, should've taken a minute or two off. pretty good thoughDerailed - Joyce Manor
-
2.5/5 intro is really abrasive for a song like this, caught me off guard. it's okay, sounds just like every other dadrock song though. can't say i really dig it. it's just average. not bad, not really great thoughRuined - Sex Positions
-
i haven't actually listened to Tragic Idol tbh, so i can't compare it to anything at the moment
-
2.5/5 never really liked rise against, especially the new stuff. just kinda meh overall. this was the best track on AtR thoughDo It Yourself - Punch
-
so now that i have a record player i'm finally able to play the decibel flexisfor the most part they're good, best is probably the Paradise Lost one. the track is so rad
-
3/5 opening riff is pretty killer, sounds like it came straight from the 80s. this is pure classic metal. unfortunately the vocals have always been my issue with the genre, i just can't dig how cheesy they are. track works pretty well overall, but it's not my style. solo is killer thoughOak Square - Make Do And Mend
-
4/5 the slow opening works pretty well, and for whatever reason the bizarre combination of industrial and glam works out in its favor. not digging the vocals so much, but i've never loved the style so the fact that i enjoyed this is at all probably a good thing. guitar solos over mechanical backing is pretty awesome, it turns out.The Worst Of Both Worlds - Backtrack
-
2.5/5 it's okay, but the modern rock sound has never really been enjoyable for me. Better than most of the bands playing this stuff, however. Vocals in the chorus are kinda weak too.All Your Heart - Transit
-
it's probably because the squeals and gurgles sound a little ridiculous to most. they're really over-the-top. compare it to how most people think of harsh vocals in generalalso pretty sure the Demilich thing was a joke. dem burpsto be honest these days i'm jamming more hardcore and pop punk than metal, it's def more my style. i can't stand the negativity in the metal scene, it's such a bummer. that being said though, totally enjoying the new Make Them Suffer album is pretty great, and so is Architects new one.
That is the whole point, you know. To my gathering it appears that the vocals in death metal are supposed to be used in manner much similar to the instruments: that is to say that they blend together to complete the overall sound, as opposed to cutting through. And to be honest, it confuses me when people say that they like growled vocals but not the gurgles and pig squeals because they cannot understand them; like you can make out every word the vocalist says in an old school/melodic death metal band anway?I recently listened to brutal death metal. Well, listened to the instrumentals. The vocals were low and guttural to the point of being incomprehensible.
Eh, Demilich are more technical death, and really not that brutal in my opinion.Oh, not a fan of the vocals? Try Demilich. They should be right up your alley.

ordered a turntable finallynot really an album, but it's musical so hey
-
haven't seen that yet, but from what i heard it's basically just 3 music videos. will watch though because of thanosyou guys should check out this pretty great new band called Young And In The Way. they're like black metal mixed with crust punk. it's a legit combo. they're from around where i live, i'm hoping they get pretty big (well as big as a black metal band can get)
-
i knowstill you need the whole packagealso a Meshuggah concert would more than likely be filled with no fun clubbersthe new Architects album leaked, it's great as was expected. Glad to see that THAN was just a fluke.also I like Asking Alexandria now (Reckless And Relentless at least, I still don't dig Stand Up And Scream). Have fun with that IMNs.

lol @ getting buttmad over BMTH in 2012it's all about Asking Alexandria these days, BMTH is old news. no one even cares about them anymore. They were pretty good anyway, they deserved the fandom.also because the "better" bands are way more niche so not having popularity is to be expected. music is subjective, of course, but more people like hardcore influenced music than "look at all these notes i can play" so technical stuff is buried.also GIR i get Meshuggah is basically a breakdown entirely but the odd times signatures make it hard to mosh to which is basically the whole point of a breakdown. they're good and i respect their influence on the genre, but bands that take their tone and groove and make it moshable are far more entertaining to me at least.
-
i don't get the love for meshuggahno breakdowns = not music
-
i just call it like i see it (or hear in this case). i still like it though!also oh man you guysi just found out about this incredible band called Allegaeon, they're like already a new favorite. imagine melodic death metal fused with tech death and sicks grooves tootheir new album Formshifter is face-meltingEDIT: post you guys c'maaaaaaaananyway there's a new Chelsea Grin song out called "Lilith", it's pretty decent. Musically they've vastly improved but there's a weird nu-metally vocal part near the beginning which sucks and a soaring clean chorus that comes off a little awkward. The chorus is growing on me slowly but I hope for their sake that the clean vocals are kept to a minimum on any future releases
-
listened to Draconian Timesit was pretty good, but I really don't know how I feel about the hetfield-y vocals
-
it's catchy and easy to dance to? that's enough right therealso i met Frankie Palmeri - u guys mirin'?looking to check out Paradise Lost, what album should I start with? only stuff I've heard was from Host which I really enjoyedHowever I have intense issues with most "pop" made in the last few years... while I won't deny that it's music, I can say there is not a single redeeming factor in it that I can find.
wood go for emmure and killswitch/10So I'm going to the Trespass America tour.SUPER STOKED
-
lol @ getting rly sensitive over people liking music you don'tanyway last night was pretty bombin'Emmure was great as expected, LMTF were pretty good too. Found out about a few cool underground pop-punk bands too but that's not the point of this topic. The real winner was To Speak Of Wolves though, they were absolutely insane live, right up there with Letlive. in terms of pure entertainment value. I wasn't familiar with the material which sucked but they've definitely got a new fan.

seeing Emmure tomorrowyou don't know how exciting this is
