  1.

See, the thing with me is I have like 4-5 Targets within a 30 min drive. But the nearest LEGO store is 2-3 hours away. :(

So this Hero Pack is really just LEGO laughing in my face.

Unless I missed it, your post lost in such a riveting argument I could barely contain my excitement. Just an FYI, if you are comfortable ordering online you can order the Hero Pack through LegoShop@Home so you may be in luck. Im pretty sure the deal ends in April so I can only hope this post reaches you in time.

Unfortunately the promotion only lasted until March 20th, so it's been done for a bit now. :/

    No, he's not.

A Toa of the Green is something that exists in G1 universe. In G2 universe there is no such thing as a Green element or power, so far, at least.

That being said, it would sure be nice if the current Masters come back into some evolved form next year, although I wouldn't want them to be called Toa Nuva. Some other title, perhaps. Or maybe no title, just a transformation/upgrade, or merely a different form they can switch to - and from which switch back to the original - whenever they like/need to.

    *ahem*

*points to Lewa Master of Jungle box*

I think it was pretty clear that Millennium was just saying the specific name of "the Green" does not exist in the reboot, not the powers. And he is right.

  3. I honestly would prefer a more meaningful contest prize than just more 14 karat gold masks. I mean it's just shiny, needlessly expensive version of the already existing masks. Why not give something that'd be more interesting than some shaped expensive metal.

...like, what? It's merely a promotional thing they're doing with these masks, and it's not necessary in any way. Masks are one of the biggest defining traits of Bionicle, so it stands to reason that they would serve as prizes for contests and giveaways. What exactly would be a better prize?

  4. Race Against Time is what you're thinking of, but that movie was (has always been) non-canon, or at least later retconned to being an alternate timeline. I don't think it's what caused him to drop the Omnitrix from what I remember.

My favorite aliens from the original series are probably Ripjaws, Articguana, Snare-oh (mummy), Frankenstrike (frankenstein monster), Ditto, Eye Guy...there's a bunch. My favorite one overall is an Omniverse original though, Pesky Dust. Followed closely by OV-era JuryRigg.

  5. The art shift was certainly one of the more polarizing aspects. Considering the art director was the same guy from Transformers Animated....I really loved it though, Derrick J Wyatt's art style is one of my favorites and one of my biggest inspirations. Way more detailed and interesting than whatever UAF did, and the artists legitimately cared way more about what they were doing. Compared to UAF where most people or things from the same species looked exactly the same and art assets were constantly reused and everything looked so so bland, the more lively and varied designs in OV were a breath of fresh air. Plus most of the aliens really looked way cooler, and well, appeared? Compared to UAF where they mainly stuck with Humungousaur, and...Humungousaur,with a bit of Humungousaur thrown in to break the monotony, OV brought back all but 4 of all the aliens, so we were finally able to see guys like Ditto and Eye Guy and the benmonsters (who got actual names!) back in action. So that was neat.

Also, Ripjaws. Ripjaws, man. Don't know about you, but I think I know which one I like more.

The retconning of that part of the story honestly wasn't all that important. (primarily because AF never established the exact timeframe when he dropped the Omnitrix) It's not like it had any major effect on the character. That being said, the young Ben portions of Omniverse are admittedly some of the weakest. (Episode 71 is one of the poorest, and honestly the majority of the flashbacks range from unnecessary to awful). It's not like they could really do much about it, unfortunately, since integrating young Ben into the show was a directive from the executives. The younger incarnation has always been the most popular, so...

But yeah, the reason they're doing a reboot is probably in part because it is a 10 year old franchise by now, with ten years of baggage weighing it down. I can't imagine any new fans of the franchise could be that familiar with the original series, which is a bit of a tough situation since Ben 10 likes to draw on original stuff all the time. By Ultimate Alien the series had already devolved into constant semi-retcons, and Omniverse only took that and ran with it (primarily to out-retcon UAF). It had become a bit of a mess, continuity-speaking. Also the fact that they want to go back to the roots of the original series, since again that was always the most popular. Starting off fresh again with the road trip and such...could be interesting?

There was also some rumors or news going around a few months back of an anime focusing on Gwen? I have no idea what's up with that or if it's even going to happen, but...it's a thing...

But yeah, I agree. I had been watching from episode 1 all the way back in 2006, I think? It has been a while. Following this franchise throughout the years has had its ups and downs, but...it's certainly always been interesting.

  6. I've been making progress on volume 2 of Index, though I still have a ways to go. Over...a month after it came out. Whoo. I am taking my time reading it, which is fine because it is better if it lasts longer I guess! It's just a fun read, definitely better than the anime. So much more detail and...stuff..happening. Can't wait for the rest of the volumes to start coming. Especially looking forward to 3, 5, 8, and of course 12/13 in like two years or something. It's kind of sad to think that we won't see any of the volumes that haven't gotten adapted into the anime until around 2018, probably...then again, if we still don't have Index III by 2018 I am seriously going to cry.

Also, apparently the first volume of Accelerator is already slated for a release here later in the year? That was pretty fast. I haven't heard or seen much about Accelerator, looking forward to it.

  7. I always liked Omniverse more. Way better art style than UAF (most boring art style, didn't like it in batman beyond, did not like it in ben 10) as well as like twice as many aliens as anything prior (where are my monster aliens, uaf????),  not to mention all the stupid pop culture references and (live for them panty and stocking references) alternate universe shenanigans. Can't get better than Frogs of War, or ATTWN/ATTWB or the Mad Ben finale, honestly. Or the actual finale. (Omiverse had the best finale, by far). Plus, hey, Mexican Luchador Rath. One of the best parts of the franchise probably.

Didn't like UA much in general, honestly. It was basically Alien Force 2.0, just way less consistent and more wangsty....and of course the whole Ultimates concept was dumb. Alien Force, at least the first two seasons, are probably some of the best parts of the franchise, though. Even if I was never a fan of the extensive retooling that happened from the original into the other series. Or how poorly that part of the story handled its premise in general, really. There was...a lot of unspent potential in UAF.

But at least UA had the Gen Rex crossover. Heroes United was the bomb. So very very awesome.

Apparently there's going to be a Ben 10 reboot at some point. I'm guessing it's gonna come in December of this year for the 10 year anniversary? I am tentatively looking forward to it.

  8. Yeah...saying that a hypothetical KND reboot would beat the shows airing on CN today doesn't actually mean anything since you have made it clear that you do not watch any of them.

Gumball and Steven Universe are great (each in their own way), Regular Show is more laid back and subtle but it's also very good.Adventure Time is somewhat more complicated, but the stretch from late season 2 to mid season 5 is all really great. Most stuff since has been intensive as far as worldbuilding and continuity and character development goes but has been slightly less consistent when it comes to being enjoyable--though I'd still say only a couple of episodes are really out there as bad. (Too Old and Breezy, specifically). That said it still has plenty of great interesting things going on. I wouldn't not recommend it.

As far great examples of Gumball goes, I have always really liked The Sweaters and The Words. Some of my very favorites. Though most episodes in season 2 and 3 are really just great, so that's not saying much. The Shell is also outstanding,  but what with it kind of having a plot and relying on past character interactions it's not exactly introductory material.

Ditto on some of my favorite recent Regular Show episodes, since a lot of what I like about a few of them is the way some characters have developed. Meaningless on its own, I mean. I think it pays to watch Regular Show in order really, since the way the relationships between all the characters have developed is one of the best parts of the show. Like all the Benson-centric episodes in which he bonds more with the employees and whatnot.

  9. Yes, yes. Dotcom is a loose cannon who doesn't play by the rules.

Interesting chapter. Seems the story is going to start transitioning to Metru Nui now, should be cool.

The only answer to this chapter's question is of course Ussal Crabs. Evil Ussal Crabs.

  10. Really tough choice here. My entry is here, but it's prolly the most mediocre option here, so definitely not even going to bother.

It was between Dume and Nivawk, Ohnorahk,  the Nui-Jaga, and Matoro. I ended up going for Matoro, much as it pained me to have to make the choice. Whichever one wins, however, will definitely deserve it!

Problem is, most modern cartoons don't have a logic to them, just random pop culture references and gross jokes.

But I guess that's what kids like now...

That seems oddly dismissive. Adventure Time has a massive underlayer of logic and worldbuilding that tend to explain much of the events that occur. Shows like Steven Universe and Gravity Falls have a ridiculous attention to detail paid to them that make watching an engaging experience. Even shows like Gumball or Regular Show tend to have far more intelligent jokes than resorting to gross out humor. (usually anyway). And the majority of these shows (Gumball excluded, for its own reasons) tend to build a strong sense of continuity and character development which enhances the whole thing. To say that most cartoons (or whatever, most worthwhile cartoons at least) are pure random schlock is pretty crazy.

But post-season one Gumball is probably my favorite on-air cartoon on Cartoon Network next to Regular Show. :(

Ball is love, Gum is life.

Ok? It's probably my second favorite show, personally. I wasn't saying anything negative against it.

  12. See? This is what I'm talking about! Bionicle is just as important as any other theme! Lego purists need to get it through their heads, bionicle is lego, deal with it! Lego isn't just bricks. :)

Individually? Sure. Bionicle, on its own, is as important as any one other old theme. But it is not as important as the added sum of every other system theme. That's where the difference lays. Statistically, it is less important than the bulk of the system themes.

  14. That's the 90's and early 2000's for ya. Cartoons were dark and gritty during those times.

So I gather you have not seen Adventure Time or Gravity Falls? Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated? Because...dark and gritty would describe those pretty well in certain respects...

  15. Thanks for the review!

I wasn't exactly planning on it, but since the Lego store seems to never have Aira's Workshop when I'm looking I ended up getting this set today! It truly is pretty lovely.

The shaping is indeed excellent, the colors are really well organized, and all the little details are great. The accessories are a lot of fun and I love the little cabin. I think the only drawbacks really come from the sail. There's no friction in the gearbox, so the thing just rotates as freely as it wants...it's not a big annoyance in any way, but, still. It's one. Also the fact that only one half of the sail has a design is a bit of a bummer. Like. I can get not getting the design on both sides, but couldn't they at least make the back purple? That wouldn't have been unreasonable, I don't think. Still definitely happy with it though.

The minidolls are also pretty fantastic, though my Aira's ears seem a bit discolored. Or something. They do not match her skin tone very well at all. But I think that's probably just me.

    It's a great set.

  16. Yeah a favorites list...might take a while. I like a lot of Pokemon.

Gen 1: Bulbasaur, Wartortle, Raichu, Dragonair, Chansey, Pinsir. Mewtwo too generally.

Gen 2: Chikorita, Feraligatr, Murkrow, Misdreavus (best pokemon), Steelix, Scizor, Heracross, Skarmory. Lugia and Ho-oh too.

Gen 3: Sceptile, Blaziken, Mudkip, Gardevoir, Mawile (second best pokemon), Illumise, Roselia, Zangoose, Metagross, Jirachi

Gen 4: Empoleon, Staraptor, Shinx, Luxray, Vespiquen, Lopunny, Mismagius, Honchkrow, Toxicroak, Togekiss, Leafeon, Gliscor, Gallade, Froslass, Probopass, Dusknoir, Azelf, Uxie, Cresselia, Giratina.

Gen 5: Serperior, Dewott, Simisage, Audino, Leavanny, Whirlipede, Scolipede, Whimsicott, Lilligant, Maractus, Cofagrigus, Reuniclus, Ferrothorn, Chandelure, Haxorus, Golurk, Bisharp, Volcarona, Virizion, Reshiram, Zekrom, Meloetta.

Gen 6: Fennekin, Braixen, Frogadier, Florges, Pangoro, Espurr, Meowstic (Female), Honedge, Aegislash, Spritzee, Aromatisse, Barbaracle, Dragalge, Clauncher, Clawitzer, Phantump, Trevenant, Sliggoo, Pumpkaboo, Avalugg.

Mega Mention to Mega Charizard Y, Mega Gengar, Mega Mewtwo X/Y, Mega Blaziken, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Mawile (the bestest), Mega Banette, Mega Lucario, Mega Steelix, Mega Sceptile, Mega Glalie, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Lopunny, Mega Audino.

I said I liked a lot of them. And I do. I had to be very selective for this list.

(wow i sure like the past three gens i guess???)

  17. Least favorite Pokemon, huh.

Gen 1...well, like I said, Poliwrath is unquestionably the worst there is, but that seems unfair considering he truly is just the most awful. I think Blastoise is a good runner-up though. The worst final starer evolution for one of my favorites....for shame...

Gen 2...not a big fan of the Ledyba family I guess? Hitmontop and Pineco are also kinda dumb. Stantler has a weird butt.

Gen 3...Volbeat is one ugly bug. Castform isn't doing anyone any favors by existing either, honestly.

    Gen 4...Hippopotas.

    Gen 5. Man, there's a few...Samurott, Patrat/Watchog, Simipour, the Kami trio...bad, all of them.

Gen 6 really only has Slurpuff  going for it as far as bad looking mon go.

Especial mega mention to Mega Metagross, Heracross. Parts of Gyarados.

I don't dislike a lot of Pokemon. Choosing favorites is probably harder, just because I like so many of them.

  18. I am definitely planning on putting the MoCr on him. It would seem wasteful not to. (then again doing so kind of makes the stand feel wasteful but you can't win every battle)

Unless it ends up looking weird, I guess? I doubt it will, because it is after all meant to be his own mask, but I dunno. A bunch of the masks in the first wave don't go so great on Protector-size bodies.

  19. To be honest, I don't know why so many people voted for the other Krika, this one is MUCH better...

The main reason is probably that they're in different polls. That being said, even as the builder of that other Krika, there really are a lot of other entries that deserve the votes way more. It's a shame that so many of the best entries ended up in the same polls, while some polls don't have much going for them. Poor luck all around. :shrugs:

  20. I have fallen really behind on my shows this week. Tempted to just let it all pile up until the end of next week since like ten of them are ending.

I'm watching (thankfully) less stuff in the Spring. But not by a whole lot.

    -World Trigger (continuing from winter)

    -Assassination Classroom (continuing from winter)

-Go! Princess Precure (continuing from winter)

-Digimon Adventure tri (hype hype hype)

-Nisekoi 2 (so ready for more frustrating awesomeness)

-I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying 2 (should be fun)

    -Robot Girls Z+ (counts? maybe)

-Ninja Slayer from Animation (no idea how or what is going on with this one but it's Trigger so whatever?)

    -Arslan Senki (for reasons)

There are a couple of other series I'm going to keep an eye on, but these are the ones I know I'm watching for sure.

  21. Can't say I do. I'm always kind of busy doing stuff so I rarely get the chance to revisit old stuff, and if I were to there's tons of things I'd nostalgia binge (or not as nostalgia but still re-binge-worthy) before Bionicle. I think the last time I really went and read ant significant amount of Bionicle stuff is like. Fricking. 2011, I want to say? Been a while.
