  1. In MNGOII, all undeclared variables equal "" rather than undefined, like they should. Because of this, all the checks for somevarible == undefined fail and scenes will try to play before they are really ready. To this day I still don't know why this happens, but so lng as you play offline or have fast internet and use kapura + 8 when all else fails, it's a non-issue.

  2.

But seriousely, you can't just say everyone who disagrees with you is being unreasonable, no one will listen.

Well, I'm not. It's just nobody has really come forward with any amazing reason in favour of it, whilst plenty of people have put forward decent reasons against it.

    #END QUOTE

There are truths in this world beyond what you believe. You can't just say those who agree with you are more reasonable, that itself, is unreasonable. . . Also, I have seen reasoned arguments refuting arguments that it will reduce meaningful discussion, but still no one has explained why someone who had something important to say would feel satisfied by simply pressing a "like" button. Just because they can, does not mean they will.

Enthusiasim is not a valid way measure reason.

Nope, but it's a great way of measuring a response when a poll result presents a 50:50 split - it's half the reason why poll topics are TOPICS, not just polls, because discussion is important. If one 50% is passionately against it, and most of the other 50% gave it about 5 seconds thought and voted and then probably forgot they even voted, then the votes of the former 50% should be given more weight.

    #END QUOTE

Why do you imply those voting in favor gave it 5 seconds thought but those who voted againts gave it more thought? You have no statistical data for this. 99 people voted but there are only 55 posts with posters posting more than once, seems like most people just voted.

As for why those in favor of it aren't giving "amazing reasons" why there should be a "like" system, it seems to be the general concencus among those in favor that's it's not that big a deal, it's those against it who seem to be making a big deal about it.

That....that's exactly what I'm saying. You post like you're disagreeing, yet you're agreeing with me.

Do not twist my words to support yourself. Original quote:

Maybe it reduces pointless posts, maybe it reduces meaningful discussion, maybe it even does a little of both, but personaly, I doubt it does much of either. It's just a fun little feature that at the end of the day doesn't make a big difference.

    #END QUOTE

Your "amazing reasons" are blowing a tiny little feature that most people will probably forget about, out of proportion.

(Also, you seriously censored the phrase 'Snippity Snip Snip'?)

    #END QUOTE

You basically insulted everyone who uses other and more successful social networks than BZP. I do not condone this, and thus I removed it from my post.

  3. If we disregard the poll results, then, and instead look at the reasoning behind people's decisions, the NO vote has demonstrated a more well-argued position. I think a lot of the YES votes were 'ER I DUNNO YA PROBLY' votes, rather than 'YES AND HERE'S AN AMAZING REASON WHY' votes. Besides, these 'like' systems are what you use on *snip* where intelligent discussion is discouraged, and I like to think that this isn't one of those places. Even though I know it is. KIDDING. Seems that the 50% who don't want it are more enthusiastic about not wanting it than the 50% who voted in favour of it, basically, because the latter group didn't really present any decent arguments. 4. Doesn't "following" a topic, blog, or blog entry sort of already cover some of this desire for a "like" or "thank" system, though? If someone likes a blog, they generally follow it. It's become a form of Internet etiquette, if you will. In the case of following, it's not just something that people do to say that they like something, but it gives them some practical benefits as well.
Following a topic doesn't address specific posts in the topic. Also following a blog is like (excude the pun) friending someone on a social networking site. It's a general "like" but doesn't give any specifics on what posts are appreciated more than others, information the author would probably take to write better.
So that's a big no on both counts. I've seen other forums that have implemented the feature and it does exactly what we're worried about happening here. Members start spamming topics with snappy replies and cat pictures to get more "likes" or a more positive reputation. I think a genuine positive reputation culled by your words and actions in the minds of members is worth far more than a bunch of likes on your picture of a cat.
That hasn't been my experience but I imagine it varies by sites. Also, I doubt that will get you many likes in this manner if the star rating system is any indication.
If someone put forth considerable effort to post something for which I was grateful, I would "Thank" their post. If they were so thorough that I could not add anything by posting, without that option, I would have two other options, neither of which are ideal. Post a "Thanks you!" post of some kind (spam-ish) or not show my appreciation at all (leaving them wondering if anyone cares).
If someone put that much effort into something, you could say a bit more than "thank you". Like "Thanks for putting so much effort into this, it's really helpful."
I was under the impression such posts were considered spam-ish. If this is not the case, it would be nice to know.
  5. I voted for the "Thanks" feature. If someone put forth considerable effort to post something for which I was grateful, I would "Thank" their post. If they were so thorough that I could not add anything by posting, without that option, I would have two other options, neither of which are ideal. Post a "Thanks you!" post of some kind (spam-ish) or not show my appreciation at all (leaving them wondering if anyone cares).I can't speak for how others would use it but personally I hope it would help reduce the close-to-pointless "I like it!" or "I agree!" posts. Ironically, I'm seeing posts like this in this thread, case in point:

I don't support any of these. While there are still posts that say "thanks" or "I agree," these are not nearly as common as they have been in the past, and not nearly to the level they would have to be at to make the pros of instituting such a system outweigh its inherent cons. There's already very little true "discussion" throughout BZP, and this would only threaten to take away much, if not all, of the discussion. I see very little value in that.I don't want BZP to evolve into a sound-bite-centric social networking site.
Spot on. I agree with Sumiki's thoughts on the subject.
No offence to anyone. The arguments I'm seeing against such a feature seem to be so that it won't reduce any of the existing discussion. Personally, if there was something important someone had to say, I really don't see how having a "Thanks" will convince them not to post it. I prefer quality over quantity, I don't have a problem with a feature that reduces lower-quality content. The popularity contest issue on the other hand, I could see being somewhat of a problem similar to the star rating system, so for this reason I would rather not see a reputation type of thing of user profiles. Even though I personally refuse to judge people by what others think of them it's somewhat depressing to see others doing so. Preferably, the "Thanks" feature would not be visible outside of the post that is thanked.
  6. YYYYYYYYYYESSSSSSSSS! That did the trick! Infinite thanks, JrMaster! Should there be sound in the final cutscene?
No, there shouldn't. I always thought there should be, but I guess they never added it.

    &OnukoroLosses=011&OnukoroWins=0

    ...

According to your progress file you haven't betten Onukoro but lost to them 11 times. Also, I can't remember if this was an issue or not, but OnukoroLosses might need to be 0 to avoid a glitch.
Wat. Not only did I beat Onu Koro just yesterday, but Whenua acted like I had before that as well! Oh well, I'll see if that fixes it. Thanks a lot.EDIT:Didn't work.
I took a closer look, plugging your values into my own getstate.txt and doing some tinkering. If the Crystal items are higher than 1, the cutscene won't play. Set the following values to 1 and you should be able to view the cutscene:
    &ItemCrystalPurity=1&&ItemCrystalPeace=1&&ItemCrystalFaith=1&&ItemCrystalCreation=1&&ItemCrystalProsperity=1&&ItemCrystalCourage=1&

  9. (Read the first post to see my score.)One thing I forgot to mention is that there are seven awards you could win in this game. At this time, I have gotten only six of them. Does anyone have all of them? If so, could you list them all?
I could probably tell you if I knew where to view them.
  10. Okay Gata. Im back in my PC. How do I send you my file?
The save file doesn't contain any personal information. ;)~Mentos Fruit
That wasn't worrying me until you said it hahahaha. Seriously though, what do I copy an paste?
Paste the contents from the file getstate.txt inside the matanui folder.~Mentos Fruit
    my getstate is completely blank
It's actually in the hahli folder, not the matanui folder (got it mixed up with MNOG), although you probably got it right yourself. This is strange as even in this case, the game should load something (the intro screen). Doesn't even the higher/lower quality selection screen appear?~Mentos Fruit
Yeah. It highers and lowers, the "loads", the blacks out
    It actually needs to contain
    &nostate=1&

    for blank status.

  11. I wanted a digital rendering of a Lego design to use as a header for a blog, so I tried using Ldd. My first problem is that I could not get it to display in Orthographic view, that is, things look the same size no matter how far away they are, and objects don't "curve". For example, if you have a long brick in Ldd and look at it from directly above, you will see the sides of the studs. I also need the rendering to be, if not realistic, then at least with clear lines instead of the cell-shaded look....I know nothing about the technical or graphic design lingo, so if you don't understand, I'm sorry. Any help with the problem described or the communication of said problem would be appreciated.I have also tried Ldraw, only to encounter similar problems. If you know how to make a good rendering with Ldraw/LView, that would be helpful as well. I don't care what program I use just so long as the final rendering is good.
LDD doesn't have an orthographic view, it only has perspective view. You'll need to use a proper rendering software to render your models. There a couple of tools to convert LDraw models into other formats like OBJ, but most of them are old/semi-broken/unfinished, but if you decide to go that rout, you could then open them in a 3D modeling program like Blender (free), Maya, 3DS Max, etc.I don't know if it has orthographic capabilities, but I have seen a number of LDD models rendered with LDD to POV-Ray and those results are very impressive.
  12. I recommend getting into LDraw if LDD doesn't work. LDraw generally works on lower-powered computers in my experience, plus it works on OSes LDD doesn't support (like Linux).
LDD works under Wine on Ubuntu Linux I hear.
OpenGL is an open source graphics library LEGO uses for rendering LDD on your screen.
[pedantic]OpenGL is an open graphics standard, not a library. There are open-source implementations - most notably Mesa - but OpenGL itself is a standard, not a library.[/pedantic]
:) Technically true, even though it's short for Open Graphics Library and I believe exists in the form of a DLL (Dynamic-link library) on Windows.
I just unlock the bottom bar and pull it down.
I've done that too. That's how I found out that it was just the bottom row that I was missing. It's annoying to have to do it every time, though.
It is. Is there a way to change the screen resolution?
It should be noted that you would only be able to lower the screen resolution below the maximum of you screen resolution unless it was lowered before hand. So that probably won't help.
That would be helpful. Is it free like LDD as well?
    Yep!
  13. I've felt a bit nostalgic lately, so I decided to play mnolg. I want to complete it fairly, and I'm stuck on the puzzle with the lava flow. How do you do it? Is it random or is there a stragety?

No, it's not random. Each time you press a switch, the switches all around it will reverse. I don't know what the specific sequence of switches you need to press is, but it shouldn't be too hard to get through it provided you always think a couple "turns" ahead-- that is to say, consider what your options after pressing a switch will be before you press it.
There is no exact sequence because the layout you get to solve is random.
  14. I know what you mean, but my situation is this: I have gotten to the shrine thing in ihu to put the stones in, and there is no escape. I cannot get out of that area, litterally. I can't walk away.I tried the kapura thing, didn't workAnd again, how do you save?

You can't leave or you just keep coming back? You could edit your save file to another location. How you save depends on the version. If you're playing a download with a built-in save, if saves automatically as you play (either to a text file, or a Flash Player cookie). If you're playing online, it saves to you account if you have one. They are all automatic.
  15. There doesn't seem to be an official driver for it on the MSI website... do these things go by any other names? And I've downloaded a couple of driver updater programs with good reputations, but they don't seem to work either. I think I just have a mongrel laptop. :(

I don't believe MSI manufactures graphics cards. They are probably using another manufacturer's graphics card in your computer. Could you post a screen shot of what you see under "Display adapters" in the Device Manager?

I've used LDraw, back in the day, but if the program is still what it was back then, LDD is far, far better. LDraw was not very user friendly. I think it has a wider range of traditional pieces though, so some die-hard designers prefer it. (Myself I like the ease of use of LDD better.)

I've never used LDraw, but I can tell you that LDD is not the thing to run on a laptop. That thing is so annoyingly slow. Ugh.

It runs fine on my laptop. It basically comes down to whether you have a powerful system or a wimpy one, and no I'm not really sure what all is needed, I just know that on my laptop it runs better than any desktop I've ever tried it on (admittedly they are all dinosaurs anyways), and better than my brother's laptop. Better RAM and graphics hardware definitely helps, though. And this is Windows 7. I have no idea about Vista; I've only tried it on XP and 7 (because Vista is avoided like plague :P).On all the computers, I've never run into the main problems people talk about. Running it in safe mode has always improved it, though, and I haven't noticed any downsides to that mode.
I believe LDraw also uses an open format for it's pieces, so users can create pieces. As for hardware to consider for 3D performance, your processor speed, RAM, and graphics card are all important. I would avoid Intel graphics cards like the plague. I find they struggle to redraw the entire screen for even simple 2D stuff, let alone 3D. AMD and Nvidia graphics cards, preferably with some dedicated video memory, are many times better.
  16. Anyone here use LDD? I'm curious to know what people think of it...I tried downloading a copy onto my laptop, but sadly it doesn't seem to function properly (The screen keeps flashing and won't let me click anything). The laptop is an MSI X320 running Windows Vista. During the installation, it popped up a message about needing a new OpenGL driver, but I haven't been able to locate an appropriate one for my particular laptop (may have something to do with the fact that I have no idea what OpenGL is... or where to look for one). I'm also looking into getting LDraw, in case that doesn't work out. Has anyone here used both? If so, which would you recommend?

I haven't used LDraw before, but I have used LDD and it's a decent program. I have been running it on my laptops for years. So long as it's a decent laptop, there's nothing wrong with running it on a laptop.OpenGL is an open source graphics library LEGO uses for rendering LDD on your screen. As for getting an updated driver, open the Device Manager and click on "Display adapters" to find the brand and model of graphics card you have. Then, visit your graphic card manufacturer's website and search for any available updates for your graphics card.

OpenGL is something that deals with your graphics card. If you run Windows OS, press the Windows key and "R", and the Run dialog should pop up.Enter "dxdiag" into the box and press enter. Go to Display 1 tab. There should be a section that says Drivers, and the Main Driver should be a DLL file. Google the file and update from there.

I'm not sure that will help considering dxdiag is short for DirectX Diagnostics and LDD doesn't use DirectX, it uses OpenGL.
  17. Thanks. Are the games supposed to be accessible through the Hero Pad? If so, then it doesn't work, though the images are perfectly fine. It would be pretty cool to be able to access them that way.TotBI

Thank yo for pointing that out! It's fixed now, but it's only possible when played by the HTML launcher. You'll probably have to add the folder to trusted Flash Player locations to play by this method.
