    Old School Gaming

I got 2,000 Wii Points today. Needless to say, I was thrilled. The first and only game I got today was Mario Kart 64. This leaves me with 1,200 Wii Points. (The 200 is left over from when I got The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.) What am I to get? Ideas? Or should I wait for other games to be released? For a list of current and upcoming Virtual Console games: Click here. Kohaku
  2. You ever have one of those moments where you know exactly where you messed up and wished you could get a mulligan? I had a moment like that about an hour ago. Thankfully it didn't cost me anything but my own pride. My dad took me out to eat Saturday night after we got back from moving my stuff out of the apartment. While there, I noticed a big banner advertising a Guitar Hero tournament every Tuesday. Down in Kato, my roomates and I got back into playing it. I had manged to become a master of Medium level, and had just begun venturing into Hard. So I figured it wouldn't hurt to go back Tuesday night and check it out. Fortunately I managed to get in, unfortunately it was the last night of qualifiers...which meant I'd only get one shot. The first round was a breeze. I finished Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend on Medium with 99% and was first place going into the second round. The next round was on Hard, still playing for percentage. I managed a 93% on Thin Lizzy's Bad Reputation, good enough for 2nd overall and a spot in the Head-To-Head. During warmups, I had watched the guy I was playing nail song after song. He was better than me, I'm not going to lie. Combined with my experience with Hard, odds are I wouldn't stand a chance. The song was Rock This Town by Stray Cats, which I had seen friends go through. Thankfully he hadn't played it as much either, so it was essentially a level playing field. I was leading through pretty much the whole song. But I fell apart during the final part, missing several chances to get star power. During the final stretch he activated star power and overcame the deficit. We both finished with a 80% success rate, but he beat my score by 2000 points. If you're not familiar with Guitar Hero, that's a grand total of four notes. I missed out on the finals by four notes, and the qualifiers are over. It wasn't all bad though. I got some GREAT practice on Hard, to the point where going back to Medium seems REALLY slow. Like, Neo dodging bullets in the Matrix slow. Also, I got a chance to play with Hyperspeed Unlocked. That's basically whatever difficulty x 2. I had to leave after that, as it felt like my fingers were going to fall off. But oh man...four notes! That's like missing the playoffs because you make the final out at homeplate! But it sounds like I'm considered a standby, as if two people don't show up I'm going to be let in to play. (It's two because the guy putting it together wants to enter the tournament should only one person not show up). So now I'm wishing illness (nothing serious) upon a couple of people so that I can hopefully get a second chance to try out my shredding skills.

    Printing Money

Wonder why the Nintendo is rich? There is the answer. Kohaku
  4. Pokemon Diamond came out Sunday. It's now Friday and I've already put around 30 hours into the game. To put things in perspective, I work only 20 hours a week. And I'm only just now about to challenge the third gym leader. I've been spending time in the Underground getting fossils, spheres, and decking out the secret base that nobody will probably see (nobody I know is getting Diamond or Peal so odds are I'm never getting Spiritomb legitimately). I've also entered contests (already won Cute, Cool, and Smart at Normal Rank). There's honestly just so much to do in this game. Battles are hardly the most of it. Plus I don't have fly yet, so when nighttime rolls around I have to stop what I'm doing and go running around various areas trying to grab time exclusives (Murkrow's the big problem child right now). My team is pretty set right now, though I can see future need for expansion (won't get far without a good psychic type). If anybody's interested, I'm slowly trying to collect extras of the version exclusive Pokes, this includes future need for GBA exclusives. I've got Leaf Green, Sapphire, and of course Diamond available. As well as Collisseum (though I've yet to beat it...and can't get them to the GBAs until I've purified all of them...at least I think). Whatever the case, if you start having offers available (starters who aren't Piplup, Bulbasaur, or Torchic), or just want to help me swing a temp trade so your Machoke can evolve, let me know. I'm about to graduate, and with work being only M-F my weekends will and evenings are hopefully going to start freeing up so I have time to hop on the WiFi...once I get it set up of course.
  5. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl launch today, comparred to the usual Tuesday/Wednesday game launch. Haven't gotten to GameStop to grab my copy yet, but when I do you can bet I'll get my Friend Code up ASAP. I'm picking up Diamond, because Dialga pretty much wastes Pairuka. Will probably choose the Penguin starter, not because I'm not a fan of water-types, but because Penguins are just so durn cute. And he develops into an Ice Type, which are always handy against the Elite Four. Can't wait to start playing. This is the last game I'll be getting for a while, and it's going to hopefully last me a while, especially with Online play. I may even get one of those nifty headsets so I can chat with my fellow trainers!

    Wisdom

Here are some things to live your life by. (Via Super Paper Mario) 1. Trust yourself. Nobody else does. 2. Grip the day! Live life like a pair of pliers! 3. Sideburns make the man. Man does not make the sideburns. Got your own wisdom you'd like to share? Do it. Kohaku
  7. Unless you've been under a rock the last few days, you know the story of the week...and probably the year right now. I'm not going into details because of the nature of this forum, but needless to say it's a tragedy the likes of which you don't want to see ever happen. But almost as tragic as the event itself was the kneejerk reaction of the media as a whole. Rather than report on the events with the facts provided, they decided to start playing the blame game. Was it the school's fault? Did local authorities mess up? Or, as is the case with any tragedy of this nature, were video games to blame? It seems these days that blaming the entertainment industry has become the popular means of sluffing blame off of any except the person who committed the atrocity themselves. It doesn't matter how many people in the world are able to play games, watch movies or TV shows, or listen to music without flying off the handle and doing something terrible...if one "kid" does something, it immediately becomes the target of fingerpointing. I surf around the 'Net, and one of the gaming blogs I frequent (don't know if I can name it here since it has discussion boards of sort) posted what I thought was a very interesting letter of sorts for gamers to present to their friends and family following this tragedy. Because I'm unsure if I can link to it, I will instead repost it here. If you wish to know where it came from, you may contact me via PM. Or if a Blog Leader gives me the okay I'll add it to this post. I'd like to have been able to come up with something as eloquent as this myself, but I saw this prior to writing my entry today. And I decided that after seeing this, anything I would've written would've only been built off of these statements anyway. So during this time of recovery, while we search for answers, remember that it's important to know the facts before reaching out to place blame. And remember that regardless of who committs a crime, it doesn't mean that all people of a certain type are suddenly just as capable. That kind of distrust and suspicion will never lead to anything but paranoia.

...Means that I didn't post the bio yet. But, the game is too awesome for it. Yes, I have the game. It is pure awesomeness. Also, I made a BBC entry. Expect that up tomorrow for sure. Kohaku

    P S 3

I finally played one today. I'll admit it was fun playing Resistance Fall of Man and Virtua Fighter 5 (I think that was the title) but I wasn't really impressed. Sure the graphics are great but it was no where near as fun as playing the Wii. Anyway, I prefer the Wii over the PS3. The Wii is more fun and that is more important to me than the fun which can come from the current PS3 games. Kohaku
  11. Big news for anybody who enjoys mowing through Chinese samurai or Japanese feudal warlords, as Koei has officially confirmed that Musou Orochi is coming stateside as Orochi Warriors! I've been a fan of the Warriors series since I played Dynasty Warriors 3 on my friends PS2. There's actually a Gundam Musou game on the PS3 which is supposedly the best iteration of the franchise to date. But since my getting a PS3 isn't in the cards for a while, I'm going to be enjoying the heck outta this new game. As the title of the blog suggests, every character from the two series will be back in this one (unfortunately excluding Nu Wa and my personal favorite Fu Xi). Also, Orochi himself along with Daji (who I guess is a Fox Goddess with ties to Nu Wa) will be joining the rosters, bring the total count to a whopping 79 characters. Take that Mortal Kombat: Armaggeddon! From reviews I've read, there are some notable omissions, namely any kind of CAW or the above mentioned godly duo. But since each character plays their own unique way, I'm willing to look the other way on this one. That is, until the likely expansion game (Xtreme Legends or Empires) is released. What's the story of this game? Honestly, I couldn't tell you. It has something to do with Orochi messing with the timeline, and the two sets of warriors meet, take sides, and begin to fight with/against each other. The coolest part is that you'll be able to enter battle with teams of three. That is, you'll control one character while two more wait in "reserve" and can be hotswapped in or out even in mid-combo. This means pirates and ninjas will at last work side by side. Though I couldn't figure out who the third member of that party would be.
  12. Shorter one now. It's been awhile too. Also, much of the game has been skipped since the last transcript. And now for a parody of the Power Rangers. 14. I'm kinda in a foul mood today, mostly because I tried to sell a few games at Gamestop and was told that one of the games wasn't in good enough condition to buy back. Which is funny since not but 6 months ago it was sitting on the store shelf at another Gamestop. So apparently the condition they sold it to me in isn't good enough condition to sell to somebody else. It's not like I'm "stuck" with the game. I got it as part of the buy 3 for 2 used game deal they occasionally do. It was MVP Baseball 04, which seemed like a good pickup. Except I started playing it and realized that their version of the Twins was the one the year before they go really good. So no Morneau, no Mauer (not even in the minors), and *gulp* Cristian Guzman at short. I was hoping to take a handful of games that I could trade in to at least put towards the 2005 version (which would have the roster pretty much as I remember it) and the good versions to boot. I've only sold games once before: three games for a soul crushing $10 bucks...if even. I don't quite remember, but it was painful. It was one of those moods where I was going to dump some games and pick up a few new ones. But the lack of any return and the way I was told off on MVP 2004 just turned me off. If he would've just given me the $0.75 for it, I would've most likely sold all the games I had with me, and then gone on to spend another $60 or so to get 2005 and possibly Sonic. Instead, nothing. To make myself feel better I went home and got reaquainted with some of my older games. Zelda's still foremost, and I'm now in the 8th Dungeon. Looking forward to beating another 20 year old game.
  15. I'm currently battling my way through the 6th Dungeon of the original Zelda. A few years ago I picked up the Zelda Collector's Disc, and have only now gotten around to playing it. I have to say it's probably the hardest Zelda I've played in a while. The drop-rate is low to the point of frustration, especially when you only start with 3 hearts every time you die. There's no map to speak off for the overworld, though I've gotten used to the areas enough to sorta find my way around. Comparred to more recent Zelda's though, there's far less hand-holding going on. None of that handy red text to tell you where you should go next. I think I "found" the 5th dungeon two or three times before I actually was preparred to enter it. And I've stumbled into more Heart Containers than I'd care to admit. It's still a blast playing through a classic game. Though I'll never quite have the feeling of a person playing it back when it was new...thinking "Wow, I wonder if they'll ever make another one." I can just imagine the following conversation: "Hey Bill, what do you think of this Zelda game?" "Oh, it's not bad Chuck. I wonder if it'll catch on." I'm thinking of starting up a Zeldathon here fairly soon. I've got the Collector's Disc, Twilight Princess, and all five portable Zeldas (this is counting LttP on GBA). Which means if I wanted to, I could play through every Zelda game made. Ever. Hopefully I won't go into nostalgia seisures halfway through Link's Awakening. But if I do...don't touch my stuff.

    Final Fantasy 12...

...Is one of the best games ever. I am currently borrowing it from a friend (He is borrowing FF7) and the game has taken me by surprise. I love the new battle system, random battles were the most annoying thing ever. I still have to get used to the Gambit system but so far I think it will be useful. And I'm undecided on the licenses. The CGI is incredible, and every detail of the game is full of life. It is incredible. Expect more on FF XII later... Also, this was supposed to be posted this weekend, but that never happened. Oh well. Kohaku
  17. I've only bought three actual Wii games since I picked up the console in November. And yet I've found myself playing on it everyday. This is because the Virtual Console is super awesome. I've got SMB, Kirby's Adventure, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64...and just recently added Donkey Kong Country. And the best part is, there's still like 10 games I want to pick up. All of which are classics I just never got a chance to play. Games like Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, Contra III, and Gunstar Heroes. Then there's the "unknowns" that I never knew about...mostly because I grew-up on Nintendo consoles. So there's Turbo Graphix 16 games like Bonk's Adventure and Soldier Blade. But that's not all, lately I've felt the somewhat forbidden urge to pick up an XBox 360. Crackdown looks like it could be fun, there's Lost Planet, Blue Dragon...but right now I'm making sure to do my research so I don't turn it into an impulse buy. I'm especially nervous about the Red Ring of Doom/Death I keep hearing about. In the meantime, my DS and Wii still have games coming up that'll keep me entertained. I just finished Final Fantasy VI, and Pokemon Diamond comes out in April. There's also Super Paper Mario, and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. The Wii right now has Sonic, Metal Slug...and I'm even looking into that new DBZ game. I own Budokai 3, but never got around to playing it (I've got like 30 PS2 games and just no time to enjoy them all). The controls sound like a blast, and I don't have many fighting games. All in all, I've got a lot to keep me entertained. And more looks to be coming in the next few months. Not to mention the big three Wii releases looming in the distance (Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Brawl). But how are you guys doing for gaming? I know there's some BZPers out there that were lucky enough to score a Wii. Are you feasting on the VC buffet? Or have you been sufficiently sated by the Wii's lineup?
  18. Time for a long transcript. The Booster one. After beating Bowyer you gain access to the mines. Once you beat a bunch of baddies you gain access to Boosters Tower. (I'm not going in depth on the mines you'll have to get the game when it is re-released to learn what happens.) Anyway this one may be longer, but it is worth reading. It's hilarious. Read on. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «(Mario has climbed Booster Tower to the top, searching for Toadstool. He finds the top room and sees a door on the other end that leads to the balcony. And that's where Toadstool is.) (Toadstool sees him) TOADSTOOL: Mario! You DID come to rescue me. I was so frightened and lonely. But now that you're here.... (Mario tries to open the door) The door won't open? I think we need Booster's spell to undo the lock on it. Oh, what should we do? (Mario ponders) BOOSTER: A... ha! TOADSTOOL: What should we do? Booster is returning, isn't he? I know! Hide somewhere and wait until he opens the door. (Mario looks for a hiding place. He ducks behind the curtains on the far wall.) You can move freely behind the curtains. Good luck hiding from Booster and his Snifits. (Booster and Snifits enter) (Booster stares at beetle cage) SNIFIT 1: Boss, shouldn't we be concentrating on the girl? BOOSTER: Right! Now, about the girl in my life, who thinks I should marry her? Well? Speak up! SNIFIT 2: A wedding ceremony would make a great PARTY! BOOSTER: Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party? SNIFIT 3: Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think. BOOSTER: Hmmm... Drink punch...eat cake...? It sounds...complicated. I don't know if I can muster the energy to do it... Let's walk through it once! It's wedding rehearsal time! (They get ready! Snifit 2 is a priest, Snifit 1 is a witness, and Snifit 3, who has a Toadstool doll on his head, is Toadstool. Booster is himself.) SNIFIT 1: We will now begin the ceremony. Walk down the aisle with the... (hey someone make her smile!) beautiful bride-to-be. (Booster and Snifit 3 walk down the aisle, which is really just the room.) BOOSTER: Wait! Mario always shows up about now to ruin the fun. We've got to take that into consideration, you know. Someone go and get the Mario doll. (The Snifits search for the Mario doll.) SNIFITS: It isn't here. BOOSTER: Of course it's here! You lazy slobs couldn't find water if you were fish! It's behind those curtains! Number one, you go and look. (Snifit 1 searches meticulously behind the curtains, but Mario evades him.) SNIFIT 1: Nope, it isn't here. BOOSTER: I wouldn't go and lose my Mario doll, you fools! Argh!! Number two, YOU look, too! (Snifits 1 and 2 search. Mario eludes them.) SNIFITS 1 & 2: Nope, it isn't here. BOOSTER: We can't give up! It's gotta be here somewhere. Number 3! It's your turn! (All 3 Snifits look. Mario has a hard time of it, but isn't found. Only one curtain section remains closed.) BOOSTER: Wait a minute! (Snifits look at him) BOOSTER: This is better than a party! Look out, 'cause here I come! (He opens the last section...) (Mario ducks...) (Booster jumps back...) BOOSTER: Wait a second! It's right up there! I found the Mario doll! (Snifits go behind Booster. Mario comes out and joins them in their staring at the doll.) BOOSTER: But we'll NEVER be able to reach it up there. Oh! The sorrow! What AM I gonna do...? I'm about to lose it...sniffle... (Booster cries) (Mario walks over and knocks the doll down) BOOSTER: Goodness! You're so kind! Thank you for getting my doll! I'd like to reward you. Here, take this. Got an "Amulet" BOOSTER: May happiness follow you, wherever you go. All right! Enough is enough! Cancel the rehearsal, we're going on with the show! (Booster goes to the locked door onto the balcony with Snifits in towe.) BOOSTER: Here's the password! [insert file name here] (They leave. Snifit 3 takes a fleeting glance at Mario...and then the doll....but says nothing.) (Mario and pals follow Booster onto the balcony. Two clowns jump down.) KNIFE GUY: Wait! You took all the trouble to come here, so...stick around! (they hit each other a bit) KNIFE GUY: Come on, brother! Let's thrash 'em! GRATE GUY: Whoopdy do! (They team up. After getting whalloped a few times...) KNIFE GUY & GRATE GUY: Yikes! They're pretty tough! (After some more of their little scrap, Knife-and-Grate Guy lose and Mario and company jump off the balcony to follow Booster. Quite a fall, that, but I guess they don't mind.) (Cut to Booster Hill, where Booster is with Toadstool.) TOADSTOOL: Please, let me go! Won't you...please? Pretty please? BOOSTER: Eh? Where's my bride-to-be? I wanna play hide and seek, too! TOADSTOOL: Yuck, I don't want to play ANYTHING with you! BOOSTER: What a poor sport! Well, we really should hurry along. A yummy cake is waiting for us after we climb this hill! Let's GO! TOADSTOOL: NO! I don't want to marry you. Please let me go! (Mario runs in) TOADSTOOL: Help! Mario! Please help meeeeeee! BOOSTER: Uh oh! It's Mario! We didn't plan on this. BOOSTER: Mario, you aren't invited to our wedding! Besides, we still have to have the rehearsal! I'll be happy to race you to the wedding hall, but...... you'd better not get in my way. Ready? (They run up the hill.) (And once we're at the top, Booster splits, but we follows him.) LADY: Welcome to Marrymore! We have a lovely wedding hall, and four-star hotel facilities! Please enjoy your stay here. What? You're seeking a man with the face of a totem pole...? How could I forget him?! He's up at the wedding hall. (Mario goes up to the wedding hall to put a damper on Booster's plans.) LADY #2: We were about to begin the ceremony when some kids, wearing dark clothes, kicked us out! RAZ & RAINI: Haaaaaaalp!! (Snifit 1 kicks Raz & Raini out of the building and onto the street with everyone else) SNIFIT 1: Booster's wedding is in progress. We've barricaded the door, so don't even bother trying to sneak inside. (Backs into the doorway and closes the door) LADY #2: There! I think that's the one who kicked us out! OLD LADY: I came all the way over here to give these two a proper send off, and LOOK what happens! GUY: This must be a first! A perfect couple who isn't going to live happily ever after... I give up! LADY #3: Who's the nut case who blew in screaming, "It's time for MY wedding!"? Just who does he think HE IS?! GUY #2: Who's the guy with a totem pole for a face?! He and Princess Toadstool were... ...No...! Don't tell me...they're getting ....MARRIED? RAZ: This was supposed to be my wedding day... All my plans have been ruined... RAINI: It was my dream to stay in the SUITE after we got married! (Mario tears himself away from the heartbroken couple and their distraught friends to go check the door.) SNIFIT 1: I'm not letting you in here! And you can forget about the back entrance. It's locked. At least I THINK it is... (Mario goes around back to check out this so-called back entrance...and it's unlocked! He sneaks into the kitchen.) CHEF TORTE: Ve bake a cake for za BIG vedding! It must be...masterpiece! APPRENTICE: Yeah, the groom-to-be ordered something special. Wait until he sees THIS! (Mario jumps on the cake) CHEF TORTE: Vat...VAT?! Vat are you doing?! APPRENTICE: Oh, that's nice, you just stepped on the... BOTH: YOU FOOLS!! (They knock Mario off the cake. So he goes on to the lobby.) SNIFIT 1: Halt! Who goes there? SNIFIT 1: You LOOK like Mario, but the door's shut tight. Listen, Mustache, you and your overgrown turtle-friend can take a hike! Go! Scat! Make like Mario and jump outta here! GET LOST! (Mario jumps to signify that he is indeed Mario and not just some random person.) SNIFIT 1: Oops... We've got a problem... I'd better go tell Booster. (He runs at the next door and tries to break it down.) SNIFIT 1: It won't budge. SNIFIT 1: Say, wanna help me bust this door down?! On the count of 3, we'll run TOGETHER! Timing's the key! SNIFIT 1: Ready? Here we go! (Neither of them actually counts to 3, but eventually they slam into the door at the same time and break it down. Mario skids to a halt in the next room, but Snifit 1 collides with Snifit 2 and they both go sailing into the chapel.) SNIFT 1 & 2: Booster, sir! Mario's here! BOOSTER: You clowns! You DON'T break a door down when entering a room! Shut it! SHUT IT NOW! Move it, MOVE IT!!!! TOADSTOOL: Mario! Is that you, Mario?! I'm in here!! Hurry! I'm scared! (But the door closes right in Mario's face before he can rescue ANYONE...) (Mario checks it out) SNIFITS: We're pretty sure Mr. Mustache can't break in here. But that turtle looks pretty mean. He could be trouble! BOWSER: They have no IDEA what they're up against! (laughing) I'm lighting in a bottle! I'm an earthquake in a can! I'll bust this open in no time! (Mario inquires further) BOWSER: You don't bring too much to the party, but why don't you help me here, anyway. At least you'll feel like you did SOMETHING! (They run together and....fly RIGHT into the chapel and into Toadstool, who is bunged all the way to the other side of the room and drops all her stuff.) TOADSTOOL: Owwwwww! Watch what you're doing! Great! .... Now I've dropped my shoes, my ring, ... my brooch and ...MY CROWN!!! (cries) SNIFITS: Booster, Sir! (Snifits pick up the crying Toadstool and take her up to the altar) SNIFIT 1: Booster, I, um... BOOSTER: Don't bother me now. Okay, everyone! The bride is growing impatient! Let the wedding begin...! (walks to Toadstool) What's this...? Water...coming from your eyes?! Are you leaking, my dear?! (opens mouth and catches some tears) Tastes salty! SNIFIT 2: Booster, Sir, uh... I believe that the bride may be... uh, ...Crying... BOOSTER: Crying? But that's what people do when they're...sad!! How DISGUSTING! That stuff must be corrosive! It tastes...like the sea! What could be making her...cry, anyway? SNIFIT 3: I believe she is crying because she has dropped some of her...wedding gear. BOOSTER: Aha! Of course! She has dropped her gear. But those tears will ruin the cake! Make her stop... ...before Mario breaks in! SNIFITS: But...Mario's ALREADY in... SNIFIT 2: BOOSTER, Sir, hurry and find her things! We have to get on with the wedding! In the mean time, perhaps we can ...do something about the cake... BOOSTER: 10-4, good buddy. You find her stuff... I'll move the ceremony forward. Hurry! (Pulls the still-crying Toadstool over to altar) SNIFIT 2: Booster, Sir, you're supposed to be on the right. The bride should be on your left. (Booster switches places with Toadstool) BOOSTER: Just testing... Like this, right? (Snifits run through aisles to find Toadstool's stuff) SNIFIT 3: Booster, Sir! I found the Ring! SNIFIT 1: Booster! Here's the Brooch! SNIFIT 2: Booster, Sir! I found the Shoes! BOOSTER: ...Hey wait! Wasn't there one more thing? SNIFITS:...You're right! The Crown! Hurry and get back the accessories from the Snifits and save Princess Toadstool. If you're quick, something good just might happen! SNIFIT 1: Ho HO! I'll look for the last one. YOU go give this to Booster. Got her Brooch! SNIFIT 3: Ho HO! I'll look for the last one. YOU go give this to Booster. Got her Ring! SNIFIT 2: Ho HO! I'll look for the last one. YOU go give this to Booster. Got her Shoes! (Mario finds the crown on top of Booster's head, then gives all the stuff to Booster.) BOOSTER: Ho HO! Here it is! ...HEY! You're Mario! So! You've come to crash my wedding, I presume? (Bowser makes another appearance) TOADSTOOL: Mario! ... You're FINALLY here! (sees Bowser and jumps really high, landing gracefully on Mario.) TOADSTOOL: SHRIEK!!! What is Bowser doing HERE? BOWSER: What a waste of time! I've got bigger fish to fry...! TOADSTOOL: I know I'm in good hands when you're around, Mario! Here's a kiss for my hero! BOWSER: Oh, isn't that great! You're gonna kiss HIM when I'M the one who saved your skin! BOOSTER: Me too! I want a reward! I'll take a kiss! Give me a KISS!!! TOADSTOOL: Stop it, all of you! I'm getting SO confused! Mario, let's start with you! (After a long, confusing, potentially disturbing, and varying kiss scene ...) TOADSTOOL: Now THAT'S one for the scrapbook! (don't ask) Come, Mario, let's get back to Mushroom Kingdom. The Chancellor's waiting for us. (Mario gathers up Toadstool and Bowser and is just leaving when...) CHEF TORTE: Zorry to haf kept you vaiting. APPRENTICE: We've made the most AMAZING cake! You won't believe it! CHEF TORTE: Heir ist cake... But...vhere are bride und groom? CHEF TORTE: But...zhere von't be anyone to eat zees cake! APPRENTICE: What?! This can't be! We worked ALL DAY on it! BOTH: YOU FOOLS!! (Snifit 1 runs in) SNIFIT 1: Maybe we ought to wait. (Snifit 2 runs in) SNIFIT 2: This is Booster's wedding cake! (Enter Snifit 3) SNIFIT 3: He'll have a fit if we nibble on it! (Enter Booster, who immediately jumps onto the cake) BOOSTER: Hey, No. 1! Where's my cake?! SNIFIT 1: Booster, Sir! There's a 70% chance the object you're standing on is a cake. BOOSTER: ........? THIS thing's a cake? (jumps off) Okay, everyone!! Here's the stumper. How do we eat this? I SAY we boil it! No. 2, what do you say? SNIFIT 2: Way too messy! Why don't you just swallow it whole? BOOSTER: WHAT?! In one GULP? That's easier said than done! SNIFIT 3: Come, Booster! You can do it! Open wide, please! BOOSTER: My nerves are shot. I feel like I've forgotten to tie my cord before a bungee jump! SNIFIT: Here it comes! (Cake moves) BOOSTER: WAIT! WAIT! BOOSTER: Did the cake just move? SNIFIT: Concentrate, Sir! BOOSTER: This doesn't feel right. (Snifits throw cake up in the air. It lands in Booster's cavernous mouth and he swallows it.) BOOSTER: Mmmmm... Delicious! It's so good it makes me want to cry! SNIFIT: Congratulations, Sir. The wedding is now officially over!! BOOSTER: Thanks, everyone. BOOSTER: It's a wrap. Let's go. (Booster & Snifits leave) TOADSTOOL: That was wonderful! Mario, you're my knight in shining armor! Finally...let's get back. Oh, what a day...! Can you believe it?! I almost got MARRIED to that...thing! But I...I hope someone marries me someday! Part three of the transcripts awaits you. Where another bad guy is shooting arrows at the town freezing people in their tracks. Once you enter the forest you meet Bowyer who is shooting them and Geno joins you. I'm not going to reveal the details. You have to play the game for those. BOWYER: 997! 998! 999! 1000! Nya ha ha! 1000 arrows! For cover they run, nya! FUN this is, yes. Nya! We'll be creamed! (Mario taps foot thoughtfully) MALLOW: (Jumping up and turning around) Oh no, someone's coming! Let's hide and see if we can learn anything. (Mallow and Mario hide behind a stump.) (Flunky pushing huge star piece enters.) FLUNKY: Look what I found, Bowyer! BOWYER: What? WHAT? Disturb me you must not! Practicing, I am. More arrows must I shoot! More statues must I make, nya! ???: Stop! (??? flies down from sky) ???: Hold it right there! You don't know what you're doing. RETURN that star to me! BOWYER: Gnya, NYA!? After a long and arduous battle, Bowyer heads up to that big shooting range in the sky... ???: Thanks for the help. You really got me out of a jam. Why are you staring at me? You know I'm more than just a doll, don't you? (Mario and Mallow look at each other and nod.) ???: (lifts hands to the sky) Have you guessed the truth? I'm a visitor from above, and this is a form I'm borrowing briefly. (Mario and Mallow look at each other and jump. Mallow runs to ???) MALLOW: You mean, like, from the sky or something? ???: (laughing) Higher than that, I'm afraid! Do you two know anything about the "Star Road"? (Mario and Mallow shake their heads) ???: Completely in the dark, eh? Well, it's a big mess up there right now, and it concerns you too! Let me explain... You've heard of wishing upon a shooting star? (Mario and Mallow nod) ???: At the "Star Road", your wish is transformed into a star. When it's granted, it then turns into a shooting star and falls down to earth. So you see, the Star Road plays an integral role in granting wishes. But ever since a sword destroyed the "Star Road", everything's come to a halt. No Stars have been made since. The way things stand, yours is a world where wishes can't come true anymore. (Mario and Mallow jump! Mallow runs to the Star Piece.) MALLOW: Are you saying THIS Star is a part of your "Starway?" ???: That's "STAR ROAD", my fluffy little friend... Yes, that star is a borken piece of the Star Road. I'm here to find them all, and repair the Star Road. ???: The broken Star Pieces... There are 7 altogether. For peace to return... We must get rid of Smithy, find the Star Pieces, and repair the Star Road... ???: I'm "(Heart)(Musical note)!?", but it's hard to pronounce so... Call me "Geno", after the doll. I chose him because he looked the strongest out of all the dolls. GENO: Now grab the star, Mario! (Mario does so.) GENO: Come on! Let's get this show on the road. "Geno", who is searching for the pieces of the Star Road, joins Mario and Mallow. Things are definitely looking up! FLUNKY: Ooh, I heard everything! Who would have known that star was so important? I've got to inform Smithy! (tears off in a big hurry) The secret to the shooting stars has been unraveled. Find the Star Pieces, and bring peace back to Mario's world. There are more pictures than what is in the transcript added here: SMRPG - Maj Booster's transcript including the cake battle is next. Kohaku
  20. Time for the second transcript. The first battle with Croco. It is here where we get to see just how strange the game can be. And this isn't the strangest. Although after this one is when I will begin to use spoiler tags on the transcripts for those of you who haven't played the game, even though it has been out for ages. (In my opinion it is the type of game that doesn't need to be spoiled.) I think I'll also write up some info on some of the characters and post them in an entry. If anyone wants to help with this or has some tips they would like to share send me a PM and we'll get that information out. On with the chase... In the Mushroom Kingdom, Croco has stolen Mallow's frog coin. Mario and Mallow follow Croco to Bandit's Way. MALLOW: There he is! He probably stashed it in that bag. Let's nab him! CROCO: Are you trying to tail me? Go home to mommy before you get hurt, kid! (Croco runs off, but Mallow and Mario chase him.) CROCO: You couldn't jump to save your life kid, so I guess this is goodbye. Jumping onto a ledge, Croco zooms off. Mario helps Mallow jump onto the ledge and they pursue him again.) CROCO: Oh! You're a persistant bugger! But I'm a 100 miles ahead of ya! (He runs off, leaving them in the dust again, but they still follow him and find him trying to get a treasure box.) CROCO: Give it UP already! That treasure box is tempting, but now is not the time. (He runs off. With ease, Mario grabs the star from the box and knocks off a few enemies. Then, he and Mallow follow Croco.) CROCO: Dead end! And they won't give up! I'll just have to hide! (He zooms off.) MALLOW: He's gone into hiding. Let's see if we can sneak up behind him and catch him. (They sneak up and scare Croco.) CROCO: Ha! Your eyes are much faster than your feet! At this rate, it'll take ya... 100 more years to catch me! (He runs off again but they sneak up and scare him again.) CROCO: Ha! Your eyes are much faster than your feet! At this rate, it'll take ya... 50 more years to catch me! (He runs off AGAIN and once again they sneak up and scare him.) CROCO: You AGAIN? This is getting old! It'll still take you... (Mallow goes on the other side of him and scares him.) CROCO: Enough! Ya got me fair and square. I'll give you back your coin. (He digs in his bag. Then, he turns around.) CROCO: Whoa! Did ya really believe me? I was... LYING! (They go into combat. Mario sets Croco's tail on fire with the Fire Orb.) CROCO: Yeouch! (He tries to douse his tail while Mario and Mallow keep attacking. Finally, he heals himself with a Weird Mushroom. But Mario and Mallow continue to attack. Croco has had enough. Mallow gives him a hard blow.) MALLOW: Gimme back my coin, or I'll belt ya again! CROCO: Oooouch! I'm gonna pay ya back in spades, kid! Go on! Take back your grubby ‘ol coin. Adios, amigos! (He runs off , and Mario and Mallow get back the coin.) MALLOW: All right! We got it back! I hope you enjoyed this one. And thanks for the feedback on the previous entry. SMRPG - Maj I leave you with a quote from Croco. Kohaku
  21. Updated with pictures: 02/27/07 Slota was right. Then again he knew this was the game. (Way to spoil a party.) Many of my friends know I think this game is awesome and easily worth the $8 it costs on the Virtual Console. Before the game is relaunches (It hasn't launched yet.) I'll post a few transcripts I found on my computer. We start out at the beginning of the game. No spoilers here so I won't use spoiler tags. In future entries later this week I will. I don't want anyone to have such an awesome game spoiled. In the way of guides, I'll post short boss strategies and how to get all the treasure in the game. If nothing else look at how to get the treasure, there are a few chests that you only have one chance to get. Also, I won't use color tags for the guides and other stuff. For now just enjoy the first fight in the game... well a transcription of it. ~The Bowser Fight~ PRELUDE: Toadstool prances off to visit Mario for the afternoon, but he's taking a nap or something, so she just sits in his garden and harmonizes with the flowers and butterflies. Bowser swoops down in his Klown Kopter and disappears into the bowels of his Keep.....and Mario wakes up at this convenient moment to go rescue her....so he slams his way through Bowser's troopas, who just pace the hallways. (Mario walks into the the throne room, all ready to fight. But he doesn't see anyone...) (Oh my! There's Toadstool up there! So he jumps onto the chandelier and...) TOADSTOOL: Don't let Bowser bruise you, Mario! BOWSER: Mario! Prepare yourself for the great beyond! (Mario and Bowser beat each other up a bit) TOADSTOOL: Mario! The chain! Aim for the chain! (Mario doesn't catch on and continues trying vainly to harm Bowser.) BOWSER: What a joke!! Put some muscle into it! (After more timely advice from Toadstool, Mario begins trying to weaken the chain that supports Bowser's chandelier.) (*LOUD NOISE*) BOWSER: What was that sound? (sees chain) N...n...NO!!! It's a chain reaction! Hang on, Kinklink!! Eyaaaaa!! (down he falls) (Mario makes peace/victory sign.) BOWSER: Coming, Mario? (One mallet of Bowser's up and Mario slips off chandelier, holding on with white knuckles....) TOADSTOOL: Fight, Mario! FIGHT!!! (Mario clambers back on and makes another victory sign) BOWSER: This should FINISH you! (Another mallet and Mario joins Bowser in his falling...) BOWSER: Mwa ha! Did you think I was just gonna GIVE her to ya? You're ALWAYS in my way! This is IT! I'm gonna take you out, Mario! (Bowser swipes but Mario manages to escape within an inch of his life...) BOWSER: Fungah! Foiled again! (and down Bowser goes...) (Mario jumps extremely high and catches what's left of the chain.) TOADSTOOL: Oh, Mario! You had me so worried! Let's get out of here! (Keep shakes violently!!) TOADSTOOL: Shriek!! Mario! I'm going to fall! (A giant sword (Exor) falls from the sky crashing into the keep sending, Mario, Princess Peach Toadstool, and Bowser flying off into different directions.) More to come. Next one is the first Croco fight. SMRPG - Maj Kohaku
  22. Bringing to a close the events of this week, I went out to Best Buy and picked up a copy of Final Fantasy VI on the GBA. I had recieved some coupons in the mail, and when I stopped in they only had VI (and only one copy). Having heard it was hard to find either game, I decided it'd be a good idea to get it while it was there. I get paid next week, which will help take some of the sting of the alternator costs. Until then, I can bury myself in the adventures of Terra et. al. Thanks for the advice, especially from Omi...who's probably the best resource for FF knowledge I know.
  23. A month or so ago was the release of Final Fantasy V on the Game Boy Advance, yesterday was the release of Final Fantasy VI. So to put it shortly, I can't make up my mind. I haven't played either, and both come with high recommendations from people I've talked to. The job system in FFV sounds interesting, as the RPGs I've played thusfar have typically stuck with the traditional style of leveling and skill aquistion. However, FFVI is heralded as one of the best (in an almost dead heat with FFVII depending on who you talk to). I was planning on going out to buy one of them last night, but found myself so discombobulated by the whole thing that I just froze on the couch admist a swirling number of questions. So I ask you for any advice you can give. There are some philosophizers who say that you've already given up free will when you ask for advice, but at this point I'm really indifferent. I want to play a new Final Fantasy, I just can't decide which one.
  24. Yesterday I went to a friends house and we had two tournaments. A Mario Power Tennis tournament and a Super Mario Strikers Tournament. There were twelve people their and eleven of them were seniors in high school. I'll start off with my previous tournament results all are for Mario Power Tennis (It was on Doubles): 1st Tournament: 1st Place 2nd Tournament: 3rd Place 3rd Tournament: 2nd Place (Odd thing was it was against the same teams as in the first tournament.) This time was a different story, my partner was kind of bad... 0-6 was our record. Dead Last. Strikers is a different story though. Although we had different teams. (Two people per team.) And they were 5:00 standard rule matches. Record: 2-3 We were the weakest in the Semifinals. The Match score: 2-1 Kohaku's Team! We beat the best team! Final Match Tough match last time we lost 8-0. This time we stopped them from using any Super Strikes for the entire match. The game was tied 2-2 in overtime. We've got the ball near their goal And SCORE!!! WE WON! *Cue FF victory music* Super Mario Strikers Tournament Results: 1st Tournament: 1st Place And so ended last night in awesomeness. Kohaku
