Once again it is time for the next Duro Fabula episode... however... it has been decided to make this even more interesting as not all parts of the stage will be posted within my blog. That's right. More than one blog will have the series. The other blogs are Alku's and Kinali's. Just when and where they will appear? Nobody knows. Not even I know. If you missed the, Intro to Duro Fabula, you might want to read it before finishing this entry. You'll be less confused that way. Duro Fabula: Temple of Fiends The starting airship will drop you off in a Final Fantasy I area known as the Temple of Fiends. Notable Features: Flat stage, platforms.Garland sits in his throne in the background, acting bored.Halfway through, Garland will gets up, he will swirl with dark energy, and turn into Chaos! He then proceeds to fire vertical beams across the stage, much like Dialga/Palkia on Spear Pillar. After Chaos attacks eventually you'll find yourself on an airship again... The specific thing that makes Duro Fabula awesome is that each part of the stage will have its own my music. Which will effectively give you insanely awesome remixes from all of the themes mixing together. Which is probably my favorite idea for the entire stage. My Music for Duro Fabula: Temple of the Fiends: Standard Final Fantasy Battle, Temple of Fiends, and The Title Screen Of course, next parts of the stage get better... but you'll have to wait until they are posted in a different blog... I present to you the beginning of what may be one of the greatest Smash Bros. stages in existence, if it were to exist. A stage based on the popular Final Fantasy Series. Yes, the Series. Final Fantasy has been popular for a really long time, and this is a stage that is a tribute to that long standing popularity, and to the Retro goodness that is in the classic Final Fantasy games. Of course one must remember that only games that were on Nintendo's consoles would be allowed. So, sorry Cloud and Balthier but you are not welcome to this party. Before I go any further, I want to thank the two members who made this stage happen, without them, well... it wouldn't exist. So, a big round of applause (read: mash random keys on your keyboard with your head) to Alku and Kinali! Thanks! And now I proudly present the first part of the stage, the name! Duro Fabula If you haven't guessed the name is in Latin and means The Last Story. Which is a very fitting name, as you will see as we progress through the entries. As this is a Smash Factor: Special Edition, it will be broken into several parts. The amount of which is classified information. At least until it is unclassified. Anyway to make you suffer I will present the first part of the extremely cute stage. The Airship This is the very first part of the level, it is known as the Airship, and the neat thing is at certain points you will be riding a different Airship. Why? This part is only a transition between the many parts. Occasionally, you will battle on the Airship itself other times you will battle on platforms as the Airship flies around. (Similar to the Battleship Halberd.) The background will be a dark star-filled sky, except when you enter a portal to each area, in which case the background starts to change into the background of your location. While in the portal (which you are thinking with) a text bubble will appear on the screen and tell you of the next stop for the stage. When you reach the location, the Airship will warp away dropping you to the next part of the stage. Of course it helps if you know what the next part is... but you'll have to wait till the next cuteness filled Smash Factor for that. It may be in a day, it may be in a week, it may be in a month, it may be a year. No one knows for sure... except that really super cute pony named Twilight. She's just the cutest thing ever. Her and those cute shoes.

And we have a winner! 1st: Kinali 2nd: ~Bandoo~ 3rd: Alku 4th: Bohrak Kaita #1 I'll send ya'll PMs next week about the prizes. You are wondering how Alku is in third when it should be Toaraga, right? Well, due to certain circumstances they switched places. Confusing yes but, it was allowed. However, there were a lot of forfeits in this tournament. I figured I had given enough time for the matches, but apparently not. So if I am to have another tournament I will make some rule changes. But that won't be until next month. I leave you all with some wise words of wisdom: Slabs of Ham, Celery and Horseradish, Tons of Asparagus. There is a hidden meaning, that should be easy for a few of you to notice. Kohaku

And now... for a Smash Factor Special Edition... I had planned this for awhile, but I didn't have the Meta Ridley trophy until last night... I got Tabuu right after. Here's to the Subspace Army! Expect some tournament stuff in the next few days. I'll probably send a PM with some questions out to all of you entrants, expect that tonight or tomorrow morning. Kohaku
-
Alright. We are down to two contestants. They are... drum roll please... *Drum roll* Kinali and ~Bandoo~ I'll go into the details tomorrow as I'm tired now... including the reason as to why there is no bracket. In order to have the tournament done by the time I go to Acen the final round (best of three) must be finished by 11:59 PM Thursday. Anyway more stuff after I get off work tomorrow when I won't be as busy. Kohaku

Well, the last round did end a few days ago, it wasn't finished at that time due to some errors during one match. And sadly because of those errors we did have another person drop out. I'm still trying to think of a way to prevent the problem but, that will be difficult. Before, I hand out the bracket, I will state that from here on out, the matches will be a best of three. So you will have to battle two or three times! The person who wins two Brawl matches of three will move on. I will also need the information from those matches, like you guys have been doing. You've done a great job at sending the summary's so keep it up! I'll be sending the four semifinalists of you a PM to remind them. This round will end on Sunday, May 11th at 11:59 P.M. Semifinals Bracket Match data will be added to it's own entry which will be added this weekend. Congrats to you semifinalists! Good Luck! Kohaku

A quick Tournament Update, brought to you by Ponchi, Stealing life energy from your enemies so you don't have to. Alright here is the deal there has been some technical problems with one of the matches. Once that is resolved the next round will start. Thanks for your patience, guys! Kohaku

I should have had this up last night, but I was slacking off (read: building my new Lego set) and so I didn't. Even now I'm getting it up so to make up for it, round two ends Monday the 28th at 11:59 CT. If it is finished before that the semifinals will start earlier. Any here is the updated super fancy bracket. ~Match Details Round One~ Match 1: Kinali Vs. Watashi Wa, Wawa forfeit to Kinali. Match 2: Ouch Vs. CzaR, Ouch forfeit to CzaR Match 3: Bohrak Kaita #1(Link) Vs. Slota(Toon Link), Stage: Flatzone 2. Bohrak Kaita #1 won. Match 4: Jedi Master J.(Metaknight) Vs. ~Rez~(Toon Link), Stage: Mushroomy Kingdom (1-2). Jedi Master J. won. Match 5: .:Sora:.(Lucas) Vs. Alku(Zero Suit Smaus), Stage: Distant Planet. Just a few minutes ago I played some Brawl, more specifically, the Subspace Emissary. Why is this important? Well I beat Tabuu on Intense, which was needless to say difficult. Even if it only took me about 5 tries. What makes it more awesome is I haven't even played Brawl at all in the last few days. In the run where I killed him I used two characters, Yoshi and Fox. I dodged most of his attacks, I was at 108% when I killed him with Fox. Then after he is dieing that's when the Trophy Stand appeared. >.< Anyway... I think I'm ready for boss battles on intense. That'll be later, now I have to go off too some family stuff. Kohaku

~Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament~ With all the entrants in the Tournament I figured I'd start it with a bang. ~Rules~ First things first, I'd like to ask you all to review the rules. There are some important things in there so take a few minutes to review them. In there is the rules for the matches so it is important. ~Bracket~ Who do you battle? Find out here! ~Match Information~ The second thing is a few of you have had some questions as to the scheduling of matches. So, I'm gonna give a basic rundown. There is no set schedule. Any match can be played at any time. As to when, that is for the battlers to decide. Be it through PM, IM, email, it really doesn't matter. I would however record the conversation, and save the PMs. I'd track the PMs so you know if your opponent read the PM. It's only important if someone tries to claim something that is false, hopefully we won't have a problem. Although, better safe than sorry. If you do contact them and they don't reply at all in that first week it will be a forfeit by them. If problems do occur between either of you contact me immediately, the sooner the better. Matches must be completed by 12:00 PM Central Time on Saturday the 19th. ~After the Match~ Once the match is done send me this information via PM:Result, who won and who lostCharacters each of you wereStage played onAnything else you feel is worth notingBoth of the contestants must PM me this information! ~Replays~ As for the replays, just save them for now. If you can put it on an SD card it'll be easier for me to get the replay. As of right now I can't send/receive anything via WiiConnect24. More on this sometime this week. ~Prizes~ Prizes will be posted sometime Sunday. LET THE GAMES BEGIN! Edit: I'd like to thank my assistant Alku whom I had send out PMs to all the entrants, as at the time I was unable to sent them. Thanks Alku. Kohaku

~Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament Prizes~ Prizes. Everyone loves prizes. Ok, almost everyone loves prizes. Here is a list of prizes winners will receive. 1st Place: 1-Year Premier Membership, Nintendo DS lanyard, Super Mario Galaxy Pin or Professor Layton and The Curious Village Pin (You only get one which you have to choose.) 2nd Place: 6-Month Premier Membership. 3rd/4th Place: Good Intentions and you will get to have something to do with my blog. (Pitch an entry idea, get fed to the Kanohi Dragon, etc.) I'd like to point out that these are some exclusive Nintendo items and you can't buy them in stores nor get them in promotions. The money for the Premier Memberships will be coming out of my pocket, and if you already have a Premier Membership and want to have me give it to someone else, we can make that happen. Good luck to all, the next Smash Factor entry will probably be a bracket one.... or a fun rant on something related to Smash Bros. I wonder what that could be? UPDATE: The winner will have a chance for something awesome... if things work out, the winner will have a chance to battle a Nintendo Representative in Brawl, he isn't all that high in the chain of command, as he is only the rep who visits my store(and gives me free stuff ). If things workout with Wifi and all that, I'll set it up for a battle. However to protect his FC from the hordes of rabid fans, I myself will be the host so that I won't have to give his code out. (It'll be a three-way Brawl.) Nonetheless you will get a chance to battle someone who does work at Nintendo. (If things work out correctly.) Kohaku

~Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament Bracket~ And now the moment you've been waiting for the official bracket. It was randomly chosen by our team of sophisticated monkeys to make the tournament run smoothly... Click here for the bracket: Link (Yes it was made in paint. With the cost of the monkeys I couldn't afford a better program. ) Also... I've considered making a slight change... and that is best out of three matches for the semi-finals and final match? Any objections to this? Kohaku

As promised, here are the rules, please read through them all. General Rules and RegulationsAll characters may be played, including unlockable characters. If a player doesn't make contact with their opponent for their match, or myself it will go down as a forfeit. In the case of a console/TV/Routing malfunction, the match will be restarted from the beginning, no matter what time it crashed.Entrants must conduct themselves in a reasonable manner. Basically show respect to all players on BZPower and off BZPower. Permanent ejection of a player from the tournament is at Kohaku's discretion.Any intentional forfeiting or conspiring to manipulate the rankings/brackets will result in ejection.Any other sign of cheating will also result in forfeit of the game.Players' chosen gamer tags, must be of "good taste." So make all names appropriate.Players' chosen taunts, must be of "good taste." So make all taunts appropriate. If necessary, rules will be added in the future. All decisions made by Kohaku are final and not subject to debate. ControllersAll Controller styles may be used. Tournament RulesThe tournament brackets will be single elimination. The top player from each match will move on to the next round. Match Specific RulesMatches will be timed 2-Minute battles. All stages may be used including unlockable stages. Please choose Random each time. All items will be used, set at a medium appearance level. No Handicaps Matches For each match I will send each participant a PM telling them who their opponent is. The two battlers will then contact each other and decide on the best time for the match. After the match is over and a winner has been determined both participants must send me a PM. The PM must include the following:Result, who won and who lostCharacters each of you wereStage played onAnything else you feel is worth noting This format allows players to play each match when they have time for it, that way I'm not forcing you to play at a set time. Each round will last about a week, those who haven't contacted me or their opponent risk being ejected! If you are unable to battle you can forfeit be sending me a PM, doing so this way results in no penalties. One idea I've been toying with is saving replays of each match. And then sending them to me and I'll put them up for download and for Brawl owners to watch. I'd like some opinions on this idea... Kohaku

Full rules are expected to be posted tonight, if I can pull myself away from the game. Got most of it written, I just need to test some things, before I post it. On a related note, I'll be doing an entry for custom stages later on. Complete with download links for those that have SD cards, normally I'd send it through WiiConnec24, however, I get an error code when I try to send stuff. That isn't what I posted the entry for... for the Brawl owners out there a lot of fun can be had with screenshots... so I decided to have a bit of fun with it. Let's post some screenshots and let others come up with captions for them, you don't have to post a screenshot to post a caption. With the creative minds of everyone I'm sure we can have some fun. I'll start with a screenshot, but no caption. *Resists urge to speak about screenshot* Kohaku

Today I'm talking more to those who entered. Right now there are 16 spots and 17 entrants. However, there is a small problem. Early in the week I sent out PMs to everyone entered and I tracked them, so I made sure everyone got it. However, there is a problem one person I am unable to PM due to the fact that their inbox is full. I'm not asking for much, just make sure I can send you messages related to this, however, if I am unable to send messages I won't hesitate to disqualify you after a certain point. Why won't I use email? Well, I won't use email due to the fact that now my email gets spam. It isn't my email directly but my BZPower forwarder which gets the spam. So I won't take any chances. Hence why I prefer PMing. For those that did reply, thank you for replying. Your spots are guaranteed in the tournament. Those that didn't please do so! I don't want to have to remove people for not replying, to my PM at all. For those that have special situations I will be keeping in touch. If you didn't get my PM or didn't reply you can do so by PMing me or posting your Brawl Friend Code in this entry. Later tonight I shall post the entry list along with Friend Codes to those who gave them. Also, Tournament rules will be up early in the week. And hopefully after I do a few tests something else which will make it a little more fun for those who can't enter... One last thing before the comic... I have some Tournament assistants, as I've talked to them about various aspects of the tournament so they will help with answering questions if it is needed. They are, Kinali and Alku! Kohaku

Sadly, I must end the Smash Factor. Forever. There will never be another one. Someone just lost there mind right now. I'm not actually ending this, it is fun. Instead I am announcing something. Imagine that. Me announcing something. Funny. I will be hosting an Online Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament in my blog. I'm still working on some details so don't expect everything right now. Smash Factor: Tournament Start Date: April 12th, 2008 Mark that date on your calender. Or my calender. Mark it on somebody's calender! I'll give you a few detail, no set rules have been made just yet. Small details: -Unlockable Stages will be allowed! -Unlockable Characters will be allowed! -Items must be turned on to medium! -Smash Ball is on! If you don't like items on because they take out the skill... tough luck. They add more randomness to the game and keep it fun. wich is something the professional Smash Bros. players seem to have forgotten. Now then... let's discuss prizes. Prizes! Yay! - Some Nintendo stuff will go to winners... (I'm not telling you what it is yet. ) - I will also purchase a 1-Year Premier Membership for the first Prize winner. - 2nd place will get a 6-month Premier Membership - 3rd place will get good intentions. - Possibly other stuff. Yes, I will be buying those Premier Memberships with my money. So I expect the winners to make a blog. Entry information! Entry is open to anyone who plans on having the game before April 8th. April 8th, 2008 is when I will stop accepting entries! If you don't have the game by then you won't be in the first tournament! Preliminary entry starts here. If you do plan to have the game, comment here or PM me. This will give me an idea how how large it will be. (Right now I'm thinking of a 16 person tournament.) Entering now puts you on a list. I'll be contacting everyone on that list as we get close to the start of the Brawl to make sure they have the game. If they don't... they get taken off the list so someone else will have a chance. First come, first serve. People will be on the list in the order they contact me. (Time of comment/PM.) More details on that later... More Details later... I will anwser some questions/comments now though. LET"S GET READY TO BRAWL! *faints* Also, another Smash Factor Comic from Kinali. It is in spoiler tags as unlockable characters are in the comic. You've been warned. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Kohaku

So last night I went to the Gamestop Nintendo sponsered Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament. I was the first battler in the first match. Sadly, I did not know we would have random characters. And that my luck sucked. I was stuck with Dedede. The SLOWEST CHARACTER IN THE GAME. Needless to say, I lost, even with my short amount of practice. I needed those Dragoon Parts. So, the Tournament started around 9:40 PM Central Time, at 9:41, I was the probably the first person eliminated in the official Tournament in the Central Timezone. WOOT! That has to count for something. Right? Right? And honestly, i don't care that I lost. The entire thing was fun. There was much cheering, during the matches, and clapping when they were over. There were loses and there were winners, and everyone was in a great mood even after they lost. (I had a few people who actually knew that that loss wasn't my fault.) The final match went into Sudden Death, then again most matches did. Only because they were one minute battles, speed usually won. It ended at about 10:30 and the winner was congratulated, then we waited around for another hour and half. (We tried to use the fact that it was daylight savings time to get the game early, it didn't work.) Then, I came home ate some food, and played some Classic Mode on normal. I unlocked, Luigi and Captain Falcon early on. Yuo guys can be sure to expect a full review later this week. (So, far I love it. ) UPDATE: Kohaku's Brawl Friend Code: 1976-9817-5204 Kohaku

So a friend and I went to Gamestop today, and at 1:00 PM they had a Melee Tournament. We each entered. We both lost in the first match. I got destroyed in the first match, I had a bloody Falco chasing me the entire match, which sucked. So I lost bad, I ain't gonna lie about that. Afterwards we went to Culver's, then to Best Buy. Went over to games... *GLEE* Brawl. Playable. EPIC WIN. The controls were the Wiimote/Nunchuck style and they took awhile to get used to... good news is that is the style for the midnight Tournament, while others figure out controls we can destroy them. (No, I won't tell you the controls. ) Brawl: First thoughts We did some multiplayer matches with another guy who had his own Wiimote and Nunchuck, so we got to Yoshi more in Brawl than in Melee, his attacks are smooth, and fast. They aren't the fastest but they can be dangerous, controlling the Final Smash was the greatest thing ever, flying and shooting fireballs is win. The levels are a lot of fun, I couldn't even begin to sum things up. I played/saw every level and it was pure bliss. You have to see them to believe. As for the music... the music is the greatest thing ever, honestly, it has the best soundtrack ever, it was pure win. (What isn't win?) My favorite item is the Dragoon, first match I played I got the parts, aimed and destroyed my foe with it. I loved the slow motion as it hit, it did some huge damage. Honestly, sorry this kinda sucks... but my mind is racing from the win. BEST GAME EVER. PERIOD. Now... to go rule that tournament tonight... Kohaku

Today on the Smash Factor... we talk about those characters who won't be be returning... those who got the glorious golden axe! I ask that those who do discuss it use spoilers. Some people may not want to know who the characters are, those that won't return. BE WARNED HIDDEN CHARACTER SPOILERS ARE ALSO AHEAD!!! » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «Here are my personal opinions. Whether or not you agree is up to you, however I decided to keep things short. Our first contender is Dr. Mario. The doc. was hunted down by an army of viruses. Personally, seeing him go is a good thing, he was a weak clone character, IMO. Mewtwo. Lucario, completely destroys Mewtwo in awesomeness, Lucario improves on Mewtwo greatly in terms of attack. Honestly, some of the battle videos show this. Pichu, do I even need to explain this? Pichu was a Pikachu clone but was worse than Pikachu cuz his attacks hurt himself. Good riddance to bad Pokemon. Roy, a Marth clone (Marth does return) however I personally liked Roy over Marth. However, I can still use Marth so, I'm not complaining... Young Link was replaced by Toon Link. Young Link was a clone character. Toon Link I haven't seen enough of, however he does seem like a clone. I'll have to wait and see... either way it will be interesting. You guys ave any opinions on these characters? Use spoiler tags when discussing please. Another comic courtesy of Kinali. Thanks! Kohaku

There a plenty of things I'd like in Smash Bros. Brawl. However, there is only one thing, I want in more than anything else. If only that one character was in, it would make me happy. His name is Geno. Now Geno is a character from the most memorable RPG of all time to me, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Geno was sent to Mario's world by a higher authority, and Geno's true name is this: "♥♪!?". Geno took the name of the doll he possessed, mainly because that name is actually pronounceable. Geno is an important character from one of my favorite games of all time. The only problem is he is a registered trademark of Square Enix. (At the time the game was made it was only Square.) He has plenty of moves that could be implemented into Brawl. Special moves such as Geno Beam could be the normal charged "B" move. Or the bullets he shoots from his hand. For a Final Smash he has a few options, Geno Whirl, Geno Blast, and Geno Flash. (Images of the other attacks could not be found.) How much of a chance does Geno Stand? Well, let us take a look at part of Sakurai's poll. Only just to see how high Geno ranked. King Dedede(5) Playable Diddy Kong(4) Playable Geno(4) Ike(4)Playable Ridley(4) Captain Olimar & Pikmin(3) Playable Krystal(3) Takamaru(3) Windwaker Link(3) He tied with some good names... who made it into the game. He has some good chances. And I do hope he makes it. What about you guys? Geno for Brawl? Or in my case, Geno for BRAWL! Comics are going to be a part of the Smash Factor, thanks to Kinali. Kohaku

When it came to updating this week, Sakurai delivered. Where to start though? With all the Brawl stuff this week on the Smash Bros. Dojo there are plenty of good topics. From Manaphy to the Mushroomy Kingdom to Iwata Asks to the Masterpieces. Where to start? I'll start with the huge ones, namely the Mushroomy Kingdom and it's music. The Mushroomy Kingdom is the very first level of Super Mario Bros. And it's BACK! This time for Brawl, however something has changed... Welcome to World 1-1 It seems so dead... it was so lively long ago... of course not it has new backgrounds. It is a scrolling stage, which takes you through the level. The flagpole! Time has aged you much... I wonder what happens past the flagpole... Of course sometimes when you start the match you play in world 1-2! The stage is a welcomed addition... so much nostalgia in one game... The music for the level is wonderful, this one level I can't wait to play! What about you guys? The next big thing was the update for today The Masterpieces! To sum things up there will be demos of many Virtual Console games in Brawl. Some of these games were revealed: Ice Climber (1985, NES) Super Mario Bros. (1985, NES) The Legend of Zelda (1987, NES) Kid Icarus (1987, NES) Kirby’s Adventure (1993, NES) Super Metroid (1994,Super NES) Star Fox 64 (1997, Nintendo 64)The Japanese page had two other games on it. They are:Fire EmblemMother 2 (Earthbound for all of us)With the virtual console some of these games are already available to download, however for those who are trying to decide on a game to get this might be of some help. Keep in mind the demos won't last forever though. The last topic I want to mention is Iwata Asks. Iwata, President of Nintendo interviews Masahiro Sakurai the creator of Super Smash Brothers Brawl. In the interview they go through the process of the creation of Brawl, it is truly unique and it is an interesting read. Currently there are four chapters and it is still TBC, however it contains some images of the creative process and a few videos. Go check it out! And now, a Smash comic provided by, Kinali. Enjoy. Stay tuned for more! Kohaku

This is a new feature I'll be starting in my blog, with at least one update weekly. This is the first. And I suppose I should tell you about the banner. The banner was made by a friend, Kinali is his name, Brawling is his game. Of course we discuss the updates, but then who doesn't? Either way the banner is win, thanks Kinali! Now the main focus of The Smash Factor is to discuss new updates and some things that I would like to see in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Of course there is more to it than that... that'll have to wait though. Of course, I do want opinions, perhaps if people PM me I'll add some of their suggested topics. For now, I'll open the discussion up to the latest delay. I for one approve of it. "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever." Or so Miyamoto says. It is very true though. Kohaku
