DeLaSouth
Were the first 2/3-letters of the Toa Mata's names taken off to form the 6 main elemental-prefixes (Ta, Onu, etc)?Or were the Toa Mata's names derived from the elemental-prefixes? Makuta Matata
Yeah I've always wondered that. I think that the Toa Mata were named after their Matoran prefixes.... Three on Three - Memoirs of the Dead - Winner!!!
Peach 00
I think that the prefix came first, honestly - probably they used that as their lead and just followed that, and finally came up with the prefix at the beginning of the names. Seems pretty reasonable to me. On the day the wall came down / They threw the locks onto the ground And with glasses high / We raised a cry / For freedom had arrived On the day the wall came down / The ship of fools had finally run aground Promises lit up the night / Like paper doves in flight I dreamed you had left my side / No warmth, not even pride remained And even though you needed me / It was clear that I could not do a thing for you Now life devalues day by day / As friends and neighbors turn away And there's a change that even with regret / Cannot be undone Now frontiers shift like desert sands / While nations wash their bloodied hands Of loyalty, of history / In shades of grey I woke to the sound of drums / The music played, the morning sun streamed in I turned and I looked at you / And all but the bitter residues slipped away slipped away... iPenguin
Toa names came first. I think they were Maori names or something. Majhost sucks
Hidron Nuva
I'm not sure about it, but I thought the Toa names and the prefixes both derived from the names of the Elemental Spirits of Fire, Water, Ice etc.
HordikaMode
Maybe story-wise it's Prefix, then Toa. But LEGO wise it's Toa then Prefix. (ex. Kopaka means cold in Maori, they used the first letters to describe Matoran)
~Xemnas~
I thik that storywise, the prefixes came first. It wouldn't make much sense the other way around, storywise. BZPRPG Profiles Ghosts of Bara Magna Profile

Ektris
There's nothing to agree to when it's the truth. Within the storyline (which is what matters in this forum ), the prefixes came first. The Toa Mata were not made until after the entire Matoran Universe had been built, at which point all the Matoran already existed. So they were named after the prefixes. In the real world, prefixes did not exist - or even the word Matoran for that matter - until a couple years after the Toa were released.~|ET|~ E-T... Phone home.
