In the early 2000s, I was fortunate enough to win what I believe to be one of the 30 or so solid 14k gold Kanohi Hau masks in a raffle at the Toys R Us in Times Square, NYC. I'd like to learn more about the piece and gauge interest if I were to try to sell it. From other posts on this forum, I saw reference to another one selling for $5k in recent years. Anything you can share or point me to would be appreciated. Thanks! tourmalinex Posted December 6, 2023 Share Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) I can confirm that a metal Hau Mata sold for $7k. The seller legal sold it as complying with sate and federal taxes laws. The mask was sold as collectable jewelry type pendent. They paid $735 in fees and the profit was reported as a capital gain subjected to income tax by the state and feds.
