What Rule Systems Are Used?

I've never played a Pencil and Paper or play-by-post RPG, but I might be interested. I've looked on the forums, but there's one thing I don't get: what's the system that's used? Is there some rule system for Bionicle RPGs based on D&D or GURPS or something?

Every few months, there is an RPG contest, where members can collaborate to submit their RPGs. The Official BZPRPG: Rules and Index and the Bionicle RPG Forum Rules should give you a general idea of how the RPGs are played. In general, you must follow the rules in those topics as you write out the actions for your character.
