So my friends dragged me out to the bar

...they said there was a girl they wanted me to meet who was a female version of myself.

They were right and now I don't know what to do. Even in just a friendship sense how do you even like... become friends with people on purpose?

All the friendships I've ever made were complete accidents and random happenings. It's especially difficult because guess what happens when you put two shy, quiet people together and tell them to talk?

Nothing, that's what.

Don't expect to talk; that won't work. An idea is to just be there, and attempt to enjoy that. Don't rush conversation, let it happen as it goes, I guess. I know that last one from experience; I can have tons of ideas to talk about... Right as time is running out. Other times, I just blank on ideas, and I just re-use old ideas.

One idea is to like talk about hobbies, but your mileage may vary or so. If she likes music, though, that might be a way to talk more, maybe.

The main thing you have to do is set up a meeting where you'll have something to do. Find an interest of yours that she probably shares (especially if she is like a female version of you) and set up a time you could do that together. Watch a movie! Play video games! Just make sure you're doing something you both like together and the "getting to know each other" will happen at its own pace.
