More Costumes! (Smash Files 25)

Posted by Lucina , in Smash Files Jan 26 2014 · 510 views

Back on June 16, I kicked this series into high gear with a lengthy post about alternate costumes and colors in the Super Smash Bros. seroes. While in that entry went over the many possibilities of alternate costumes, and how they are necessary to keep the franchise up-to-date, I decided that, since we're 1/4 of the way to 100 entries in this series, I'd revisit it to discuss some of the alternate costumes I believe must be incorporated. For the sake of simplicity, let's assume that all costumes from Brawl are kept.
1. Power Ups (Mario Characters)
Posted Image
The Super Mario characters have a wealth of possible alternate costumes at their disposal, none more evident than the power ups. We got the beginnings of this in Brawl (Fire Mario, Fire Luigi), but with Peach, Rosalina and Bowser also on the roster, so much more can be done. The first thing to do is give Peach and Rosalina matching "fire" alternate costumes. Give Bowser a costume based on Meowser from Super Mario 3D World; costumes based on the hammer/boomerang suits, ice flower, and copter suit are also all possible and just a fraction of what could be utilized here.
2. Alter Egos & Other Things (Mario Characters)
Posted Image
Another for the Super Mario franchise, as well as Donkey Kong. While it would mean no Funky Kong character, a costume based on him could work for DK. For Bowser, you have many options - Dry Bowser, Dark Bowser, Dreamy Bowser, Bowletta, the blue ox from Super Mario Bros., or Wedding Bowser? On that note, I'd like to see both Mario and Luigi receive alternate costumes depicting them as Dr. Mario and Dr. Luigi respectively - Luigi could also use a costume based on Mr. L. Peach could receive a costume based on her appearance as the Shadow Queen in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
3. Yarned Up? (Kirby, Yoshi)
Posted Image
While I can't help but think it'd be cooler to have Yarn Kirby or Prince Fluff as a full-blown character (preferably the latter), if it isn't happening I'd like to see some of our fighters going yarn in alternate costumes. Yoshi, Kirby, Metaknight and King Dedede have already been seen in yarn format, so maybe it could happen.
4. Misc. Outfits
Posted Image
Why not have costumes for both Link and Toon Link in their various pre-adventure outfits? Wind WakerTwilight Princess and Skyward Sword come to mind immediately, although this one might be less possible due to the appearance of train-garbed Link from Spirit Tracks in a stage already. The same could be said for Zelda, as well as Ness and Lucas in various outfits. Fox, Falco and Wolf could all have outfits from previous games in their franchise available as costumes. For characters like Samus, where the different suits offer minor variations on the aesthetics of the armor, those minor modifications could be added instead of making them a simple recolor.
5. Shiny Forms (Pokemon)
Posted Image
Of course, this entry would be lacking if I did not discuss Pokemon. Honestly, I'm not sure why this hasn't been implemented at all yet - why are we being given Pokemon who wear hats instead of, y'know, actual recolors? Shiny forms are a must, but the colors for Charizard in Project M (which is a whole other entry unto itself) prove that you can get very creative with every color costume for Pokemon. If Mega Evolution forms are not implemented as the aftereffects of a final smash, this is also the perfect place for them to come into play (assuming that the mega evolution is not how that particular Pokemon is represented). And, as the image of Mewtwo above shows, there are many other options for Pokemon as well.
Several images in this entry (Mewtwo, Mr. L, Toon Link) are from Project M, a fan created moderator for Brawl. I suggest you check it out if you prefer Melee to Brawl, want something new to tide you over until the new game comes out, or if you're just curious. I'll be discussing Project M and what it could mean for the future of the series in another file at a later date - for now, feel free to argue in the comments with me regarding my opinions on alternate costumes.

PALUTENA? (Smash Files 24)

Posted by Lucina , in Smash Files Jan 24 2014 · 525 views

This has been circulating the net for a few days now:
Please link to images larger than 500 kB. -B6
Alongside another that has Palutena and Mario standing next to each like best pals. It's difficult to tell whether this is a hoax or a legitimate leak, since as far as I've seen no official word has come from Nintendo on this.
It's not official (obviously) and it's a pretty bad picture. While Palutena does appear to have a black outline around her like all of the playable characters in the 3DS version do, that's a job easily done by a skilled or patient photoshop artist. Personally, I'm of the opinion that it's either a hoax or she's an Assist Trophy - I'd much rather play as the Eggplant Wizard.
Share your thoughts in the comments below - you probably know more than I do.

Interest Level?

Just thought I'd try and gauge interest here before I actually post something that nobody will read; is there anyone that would be interested in reading an Epic about the lives of Bionicle & Hero Factory sets in the real world?
I plan to have them facing realistic scenarios, so that could include being lost, being left behind on a trip, losing pieces, etc. No prior reading or knowledge would be necessary, as it's designed to be standalone.

This is gonna be tough to pull off - attempting to decide BZPower's favorite video game character and BZPower's favorite movies on the same blog.
I'll make do.
With the announcement of the nominees for the 86th Academy Awards, I figured, why not? We'll make some of our own!
(If you'd like to help the Voltex Association with designing a trophy, please do so).
This is going to be voted on entirely by you guys (and me because I am one of you) - so here's the deal. First, we need nominations for the nominations! Which means that, for each category, you can submit one option - and don't worry about multi-nominations; if Tom Hanks is selected for his role in Captain Phillips and Saving Mr. Banks, that is totally okay. If someone has already nominated your choice, just note that you are repeating the suggestion.
Now we move onto the categories that you can vote for.
Best Film (for simplicity's sake, consider foreign language films acceptable here, as well as documentaries)
Best Animated Film
Best Short Film (animated or live-action)
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Director
Best Soundtrack/Score
Best Original Song
Best Writing (adapted or original)
Also, before you get mad at anybody who votes... remember that the chances of everyone seeing every film are 0.
I suppose I'll vote eventually. My choices are probably going to be picked fairly quickly regardless.

Thank you very much to Jedi Master J for the Translucent Miru, as well as the bonus LEGO Gift Card and Robot Minifigure (which shall join Marilyn Monroe as the second in my collection). Also pictured here, since they deserve the honor, are the official soundtrack to The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask that I got as a Platinum Reward for Club Nintendo, and my Darth Duck mug. Because it's Darth Duck people.

Bionifight Ultimate: FAN CREATED CONTENT

Posted by Lucina , in BZPower Jan 16 2014 · 209 views

Yes, you read that correctly – fan created content. This series is all about you folks, the players; and what better way to continue that trend (along with expanding and perfecting it) than to introduce this? I had it in a very vague form during Bionifight 4, where I took suggestions for new modifiers, game types, and battle arenas. However, it was rare and never on a larger scale. I’m hoping we can change that.
This is my challenge to you – organise yourselves. Do you have some ideas you’d like to see implemented? Sorry, I won’t listen – not until you have gathered two or more players to help you develop a LARGER update to the game. I’m talking new arenas, new power ups, new game types, and any other additions you feel could fit into the game. Here are the steps you’ll need to go through:
1 – Have an idea (obviously).
2 – Get into contact with at least two other players to discuss ideas, improve ideas, and flesh all of those ideas out.
3 – Design stuff; create arenas, power ups, game types, other things, what have you – I will note that I’m more likely to agree to your ideas if you can tie them all into a singular “theme”.
4 – Make sure that each creation is named, and credited to whoever came up with the original idea for that item/thing in the first place.
5 – Get some sort of a banner created for your update; preferably at least as large as 400x200.
6 – Bring it to me. This should be done by whoever first organised the project sending me a pm, laying out your Fan Created Update in an orderly fashion. I’ll ask questions about things I don’t quite get; I’ll discuss with the group as a whole the project, and we’ll decide what goes into the game and what doesn’t. I make no promises about what will make it into the game, but I don’t think we should have too many problems.

Bionifight Ultimate: Arenas!

Posted by Lucina , in BZPower Jan 15 2014 · 257 views

1 - Ko-Wahi – A region of snow, where the icy surfaces make maintaining balance difficult and the area is so cold that attacks do half as much damage as usual and each player loses 1 health with each new day.
2 - Coliseum – The default arena with no major modifiers, aside from the floor that can change heights from normal to high and back down even lower.
3 - Archives – A collection of underground caverns and tunnels filled with roaming beasts and enemies, where attacks that are too powerful could bury you alive.
Those are just three of the arenas that you'll be fighting in this time around.
I'm also announcing Unlockables officially here and now - I've already showcased one unlockable to you all (was it a game type, a power up, or an arena?), but the methods to unlock these secrets will be revealed at the game's release.
Stay tuned for tomorrow - I have what might be the biggest announcement yet for you all before the game releases.

just for fun
