Hawks Win Final Preseason Game

Posted by Lewigi , Oct 03 2010 · 77 views
The Blackhawks close out the preseason 3 and 4 with a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues. All four goals came in the second period, while Marty Turco allowed one goal in the second period and two in the third. The Blackhawks have yet to get comfortable with Turco's style of play, but once they do, the Norris Trophy winning Duncan Keith, his partner on defense Brent Seabrook, and the best puck-moving goaltender in the NHL, Marty Turco, will form what is sure to be one of the most powerful defenses in the Western Conference, if not the entire National Hockey League.

First regular season game is on Thursday at 9:00 CT at the Pepsi Center in Denver against the Avalanche, which will be on Versus and WGN Radio 720 AM.

"and This Season Is Ovah!"--

Posted by Lewigi , Oct 03 2010 · 65 views

--In the words of the rather annoying White Sox commentator Hawk Harrelson. Unfortunately, the Padres could not beat Jonathan Sanchez and give us a fourth straight year of extra regular season baseball, and Game 163.

History will not be made this year, at least in the form of the first year ever with a three way tie solved by tiebreakers, and now the San Francisco Giants are NL West Champions, the Atlanta Braves the National League Wild Card, and the San Diego Padres are a team with perhaps one of the biggest lost opportunities this season, but can still look back on a season that far exceeded the very low expectations set for them in April.

In the meantime you can see how the playoff matchups are in the content block to the side.

Braves Take .5 Game Lead In Wild Card

Posted by Lewigi , Oct 03 2010 · 60 views
With their 8-7 win over the Phillies, the Braves have taken the lead in the Wild Card, and now whether a tiebreaker occurs or not rests solely on the Padres and Giants. A Padres win extends the season for two more days. A Giants win ends the season at game 162 and gets both the Giants and the Braves into the playoffs without tiebreakers.

The good news: the chance of baseball tomorrow is still 50%.

Game 162, The End Of The Season?

Posted by Lewigi , Oct 03 2010 · 72 views
Since the Turner Broadcasting Service (TBS) doesn't have the sense to show the biggest game of the day between the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants, MLB Network's final game of Pennant Chase Coverage will feature the matchup that may conclude the question of who wins the West, or may prolong it to game 163--which would make it the fourth year in a row that a 163rd game would be necessary.

2007 National League Wild Card Tiebreaker

8 vs. 9

A questionable call at home plate was the difference maker in this game, but the Padres were not going to argue with it, instead trusting the umpire's judgement, putting an end to their season. The Rockies would then advance on to NLDS to face the NL East champion Phillies, the West Champion Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLCS, and then went on to be swept by the American League Champion Boston Red Sox in the World Series.

2008 American League Central Division Tiebreaker

0 vs. 1

John Danks and Nick Blackburn went into a highly competitive pitchers' duel, but the White Sox were the ones that scored first. Simple as that. The White Sox, unlike the winner of the '07 tiebreaker winners, the Rockies, were unable to progress past the first round, losing in the ALDS to the AL East and eventual American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays.

2009 American League Central Division Tiebreaker

5 vs. 6 F/12

The Twins and Tigers played a twelve inning thriller in the final regular season game at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, and it would end in a 6-5 win for Minnesota. Unfortunately for the Twins, that would be the last win for them in the Metrodome, as they would proceed to be swept by the AL East Champions and eventual World Series Champion New York Yankees, finishing off baseball in the Metrodome with a loss to New York.

2010 Game 162

vs. 4:30 ET, Sunday October 3 on MLB Network

The biggest game of the year, perhaps, for the San Diego Padres. Their season rests on this game, and they will be sending Mat Latos to the mound against Jonathan Sanchez. A loss give the Giants the West. A win ties the two, and depending on what the Phillies and Braves do.

Possible Matchups Tommorow:

2010 National League West Division Tiebreaker

Should the Padres and Braves win today, both the Giants and the Padres would fly to southern California, and San Diego, where Game 163 would be played by these teams for the National League West division. The loser of this game would then fly to Atlanta, where they would play Game 164 against the Braves for the Wild Card.

2010 National League Wild Card Tiebreaker

Should the exact opposite happen, and the Braves and Padres each lose today, there will be only one tiebreaker game for the Wild Card.

Possible Matchup on Tuesday

2010 National League Wild Card Tiebreaker

/ vs.

Should the Braves and Padres each win today, the loser of tomorrow's NL West tiebreaker will play the Braves on Tuesday for the Wild Card.

All in all, I'm hoping for a Braves win and a Padres win. And currently, that's going well, as the Braves lead Philly 5-2 in the bottom of the 5th.

He's really quite a scary fellow. If he ever argues with an umpire, the call may be overturned for fear of force lightning. tongue.gif

Howdy Folks!

I'm LewaLew, former BZPower RK, former Reporter, and former unofficial baseball blogger. Once, this blog served as the home of my primarily baseball-related musings. Now that I'm in college, I have little time for baseball and BZPower, so it sits here idle except for an occasional visit on my part. Please enjoy or cringe at what you read from my past, and if you'd like, go ahead and comment in the favorite baseball teams entry so that the next time a blue moon rolls around and I visit, I can add you to that content block.

Play Well!

Old Welcome Block

For those of you who don't know (which would mean everyone but Aho-Chan and Sumiki) the BaseBlog is beyond a blog, this is beyond baseball it's a blog that focuses on the great American sport of baseball. The idea of a baseball themed blog has actually been in the works by me ever since Super Bowl XLIV, when Aho-Chan posted a blog entry asking if anyone besides himself didn't care for the Super Bowl, to which I suddenly got the idea of a baseball-themed blog so I could talk about my favorite sport without waiting for someone else to post in the Official Baseball Topic in the Completely Off Topic forum.

Play Ball, folks.
