Hall of Fame

Bonds, Sosa, McGuire, Clemens, Palmiero, and any others of their kind do not belong in the Hall.

Lee Smith, on the other hand--he should have been there long ago. Until Hoffman (who has since been overtaken by Rivera), he was the all time leader in saves. Don't make him go through what Santo did, BBWA.

tigers, giants, world series and 2 more...
Are fun, when people are friendly, and they also grab people's attention when placed in blog titles.

Anyhow, what I really want to talk about is the World Series. I am grateful beyond belief that the Giants were able to come back and beat the Cardinals. I already died twice in my lifetime in '06 and '11, along with a near miss in '04 and a bullet grazed my heart in '05, but the White Sox aren't as bad as the Cards.

Even so, I'm still rooting for Detroit. You all remember how I complained about the style of baseball played in '10? This time, I think it will be a little more balanced. Both have great pitching staffs, but Detroit has the better offense. I would say the Giants have the advantage, except that the Freak was freakishly bad this year, and so that factor is out of the World Series picture. On the other hand, Detroit has Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera (Triple-Crown winner and my choice of AL MVP), and Justin Verlander (last year's AL Cy Young and MVP winner). That's a pretty strong triple threat.

Then again, San Francisco has proved me wrong before, and they have a hot trio of hurlers in Cain, Zito, and Vogelsong. Even so, after the ALCS sweep, I still say Tigers.

NL Wild Card Game

Stinkin' Cardinals.

Although I also blame the umps--that infield fly call was terrible. Were there replacement umps also?

Teddy Roosevelt, Miguel Cabrera, and the A's

postseason, nationals, athletics and 2 more...
Big day in baseball, if not quite as thrilling as last year thanks to the new Wild Cards.

Firstly, Teddy Roosevelt, the perrenial loser of the only post-sausage mascot race to actually be any good, the Washington Nationals' Presidents' Race, finally won his first race on the last Nationals game of the regular season. I wonder how long the idea to give Teddy a win the year the Nats won the pennant.

Secondly, for the first time in 45 years, the Cubs have 100 losses.

Owait, wrong story. I meant Miguel Cabrera won Major League Baseball's Triple Crown. While not as rare as the horse racing Triple Crown, it has been a good long time, as the last fella to pull it off was Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 for the Boston Red Sox. There has been some debate over whether Miguel Cabrera should get the MVP or if the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout should enjoy the honor. If you ask me, any guy who wins the Triple Crown deserves the MVP. You can't get much better offensively than that, and he's not too shabby with the glove either. What a way to react to losing your position to that guy they got from Milwaukee, hmm?

Thirdly, the Oakland Athletics. The White Elephants have been pretty dismal for most of the past decade, with only the Seattle Mariners to give them company, but this year they really pulled it out. Not only did they make it past the team that picked up Albert Pujols (although the Halos were underachievers this year), but on the last day of the season they swiped the pennant from the Texas Rangers, forcing the two-time defending AL champions to thank the MLB for approving the new Wild Card game that still gives them a shot. If they can beat the Fighting Showalters, that is.

As a side note, due to the A's winning the division crown, both of last years World Series teams are in the playoffs only because of the new Wild Card expansion. Hopefully, the Rangers can make the most of it, and the Braves can tomohawk-chop the Redbirds out into the offseason. Both Wild Card games are on tomorrow on TBS.

BZP Bucket List

Posted by Lewigi , in Baseball, BZPower Sep 29 2012 · 167 views

I don't know if I've mentioned it before or not, but come college, I will be leaving BZPower. However, I still have a few things I want to do before that time comes, and I think I will do better if I have some sort of list.

1) Finish A Tale of Two Paths
2) Win an RPG contest sometime next summer.
3) Re-read all of GaliGee's stories--finish on the final day of my time here.
3) Do some actual BaseBlogging next baseball season and this postseason.
4) Be a better reporter than I was a Reference Keeper.
5) Write a Short Story on any subject, and post in the Library. Cannot be a contest entry.
6) Write an Editorial in tme to post it on the last Wednesday before college, detailing what I feel concerning my time on BZPower, to place in either the BaseBlog, or send to the front page. Whichever is most appropriate.
7) Make a helpful contribution to BS01 in the last week, no matter how small.
8) Visit the KanohiJournal website one last time.
9) Finish the BaseBlog off with a postseason preview.
10) Make my final post in one of GaliGee's story topics, just as my first one was, if I remember correctly.

Many of these are more of something I want my last week to be like, but they're no less important than the others. I'll probably put these in the sidebar as a more efficient reminder.

Howdy Folks!

I'm LewaLew, former BZPower RK, former Reporter, and former unofficial baseball blogger. Once, this blog served as the home of my primarily baseball-related musings. Now that I'm in college, I have little time for baseball and BZPower, so it sits here idle except for an occasional visit on my part. Please enjoy or cringe at what you read from my past, and if you'd like, go ahead and comment in the favorite baseball teams entry so that the next time a blue moon rolls around and I visit, I can add you to that content block.

Play Well!

Old Welcome Block

For those of you who don't know (which would mean everyone but Aho-Chan and Sumiki) the BaseBlog is beyond a blog, this is beyond baseball it's a blog that focuses on the great American sport of baseball. The idea of a baseball themed blog has actually been in the works by me ever since Super Bowl XLIV, when Aho-Chan posted a blog entry asking if anyone besides himself didn't care for the Super Bowl, to which I suddenly got the idea of a baseball-themed blog so I could talk about my favorite sport without waiting for someone else to post in the Official Baseball Topic in the Completely Off Topic forum.

Play Ball, folks.
