  2. Same words, different context. In the end, the BZPRPG is just a game, guys. You can choose to play it like one or you can take it seriously. Take your pick, though I'm of the opinion that the former option is more fun -- taking something like an RPG so seriously more often than not leads to angst, anger, ego jousts, rants, and the loss of friends. I shall quote renowned BZPRPG economist Endearing Effeminate Son here: "BZPRPG: Serious Business." And then qualify that profound statement. Yes, the BZPRPG is indeed Serious Business, but it doesn't necessarily have to be.
  3. Lazzy the Spazzy

    Strange

For some reason I'm finding topic-based RPGs to be harder to catch up on than forum-based RPGs. Could just be because of my spending three years mostly in a forum-based RPG only.
  4. Come on people! It needs your votes! Look at those puppy dog eyes!! How can you refuse that? A Fraction of Greatness -Exo-Fat The Core War has just shattered Spherus Magna. Set forth as the only path to survival, the Glatorian Plan promises the haggard people their lives. But how much blood are they willing to pay for it?
  5. I'm setting aside this entry to say goodbye to one of BZPower's greatest roleplayers and a source of inspiration to me in that field. I'm definitely not one of the ones who knew him very well, that honor goes to others. I don't have much to say either, but I still feel like I can sincerely say farewell to a legend. Goodbye Captain and may you find happiness in the path you have chosen.
  6. Lazzy the Spazzy

    Smeagz

Because who knows when he'll show up in the BZPRPG again...
  7. The following letter is one of the few surviving relics of what is commonly referred to as the Post-Core-Conflict, the period of time directly following the shattering and a time of great unrest among the tribes. Great care has been taken to preserve this document in its original form. Archival notes have been added on a separate page in order to aid the reader with understanding the historical and cultural context of the missive. I direct my epistle to Certavus in the city of Atero, who previously commanded the Legions of Ice and is now the supposed leader of the remnants of the tribes; for it is you that they look to for guidance in these times of despair. It grieves me that I must write these words of condemnation unto you, for had we not all been brothers? But then came the Lords' War1. Each of us was commissioned to gather together warriors and arm them with swords, with spears, and with elements2 granted by the Lords. We marched forth against each other in conquest of the kill-silver3, the object of ultimate dominance. Behold, we have suffered great afflictions. Not just myself, but all of the tribes. We have endured many things; hunger, thirst, fatigue. Great has been the slaughter among the peoples of Spherus Magna. We have never come so very close to extinction as we have merely three months ago. Indeed, the very foundations of our world have been shaken to the core. Spherus Magna no longer exists. In its place has risen Bara Magna, a barren wasteland filled with the wandering souls of the lost. You cannot deny these things, and yet you have the audacity to propose a plan so divisive that it will shatter the hearts and minds of a people that still mourn the loss of their culture? You say that this plan will save us. I ask you now, who will it save? It exiles those who may be beneficial to our society to a life of endless isolation and death in the cruel desert word. You claim that the old, the weak, and the poor cannot contribute to reconstruction; but what about my people, the Sand Tribe? What of the Rock Tribe? You are fortunate that they have almost completely migrated north by now4, otherwise their rage would have been magnificent to behold. But my people still remain strong and courageous. We know the sand but we cannot survive like this for much longer. If forced out of our lands into an unknown territory, we may soon turn from fearless to feral. Some of this can be seen already. Your “Glatorian Plan”5 has not united the people. In any case, it has splintered them even further. Warring factions and guilds vie for power on a daily basis. Land changes hands like a hot stone. The tribes are all but non-existent. There is no order, there is no peace, there is no civilization. If you will not desist in this heinous scheme, I will be compelled to gather together my tribe and all those who will join us. We will march against you with great reluctance, but with the fire of justice in our hearts. You who sit comfortably in your cities cannot know what justice is. Justice is what we desire when another brother falls to the earth. Justice is what we desire when we find another straggler, dragging his body along the ground and begging us for a morsel of food or drop of water. Justice is what we desire when we tell him that we cannot help him. Justice is what we desire when we see his tears fall like rain and he collapses in utter hopelessness. Justice is what we will see when we, the exiled ones, paint your blood across the dunes and your corpse is devoured by the sand bats. Only then will justice be fulfilled. Our world has shattered, our people have fractured, and our spirit is broken. We have but a fraction of greatness, but we have enough to see the true intentions of your heart. I am Pertagna, Vorox6 of my tribe, and I send this message to Certavus. Hearken unto my words and depart from your destructive ways or we will descend upon you with fury and you will surely perish. May the Great Beings have mercy on you. You who have shown no mercy to us. -Pertagna, Vorox of the Sand Tribe and Commander of the Exiles.7 Archival Notes: 1. The term “Core War” developed centuries after the actual conflict. Until then it was commonly referred to as “the Lords' War”, “the Silver Struggle”, or “the War Between the Tribes” 2. At the beginning of the Core War, the Element Lords granted limited elemental powers to the members of the tribes. The powers were contained in and accessed through the weapons that the soldiers carried. By the time of the Post-Core-Conflict, the power in the weapons had begun to weaken and dissipate. 3. The layman's term for the mutative liquid that was the central focus of the Core War. 4. Immediately following the Core War, the Rock Tribe mobilized and quickly migrated north into the wilderness. A few Rock Tribe members remained behind and were outcasts for the most part. 5. The term “Glatorian Plan” was the collective name for a set of policies developed by Certavus, Ackar, and several other Core War veterans. The first step of the plan was to conserve resources by casting out anyone deemed to be non-productive to society into the desert. The next step would be to reorganize the tribes and construct arenas where they would settle disputes and thereby avoid war. 6. “Vorox” was the highest title of honor among the Sand Tribe. It meant “honored leader” or “greatest warrior”. It did not develop a negative connotation for many more years. 7. It is worth noting that Pertagna was killed in battle about two weeks later during an unsuccessful raid on Atero. Our world has shattered, our people have fractured, and our spirit is broken. 9. You've all heard of the term "___ wins the internetz". I'm usually against using such cliches because overusing these memes tends to downplay the awesomeness of real accomplishments. However, in this case I believe our resident Compulsive Name Changer, Rabid (or My name is a sentence. now) has indeed won the internetz. Congratulations. Rpg Fit On Hold

RPG Fit has been temporarily put on hold for something awesome. Spink, EW, SK, Robo, and Necro know exactly what I'm talking about.
  11. In my previous RPG Etiquette Episode (more than a year ago now), I adopted a rather cynical and sarcastic tone. This Episode will depart from that a bit by taking a more neutral opinion on matters. ---Part 1--- Godmodding. We RPers all know what it is. It's a rule in almost all RPGs, and those that don't have it usually tend to fall apart. Why is that? For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, Godmodding essentially stands for "godly modification", where a player makes his or her character unrealistically powerful or omniprescient, like a god. Ever heard of the slang term "hax"? A godmodder is basically the text-based RPG's equivalent of hax. Let's use a scenario to clarify this definition. Let's say you're role-playing in an RPG. Your character is a Toa, let's call him Toa A. You're fighting another player who also has a Toa, let's call him Toa B. Above I've illustrated the usual symptoms of godmodding. Player B not only has his own hits inexplicably hit his opponent without giving him a chance to react (a subcategory of godmodding called auto-hitting), but he also showed a disregard for Player A's actions and his surroundings (dodging their attacks without getting hit, despite being in a narrow alley). Now let's say Player C comes in. Player C has accumulated quite an army from years of role-playing, and has brought a fleet of airships that she has earned. Now the godmodding gets more unrealistic than before. Yes, we all see this in movies. A single person somehow manages to take down an entire airfleet through sheer awesomeness alone. But unfortunately, what godmodders often don't understand is that RPGs aren't movies, and that they (or their characters) are not the main character in some epic battle. In RPGs author powers don't apply, and using them without respect for the other player's wishes often leads to being punished. But my main purpose for writing this entry isn't to tell you what godmodding is. Chances are, if you're in an RPG, you know. ---Part 2--- So, we know what the problem is. How do we solve it? Usually (and hopefully), all it takes is a word with the godmodder. Most of the time they don't know that they're being unrealistic, and once they've been corrected they get better. But sometimes things aren't that easy. Sometimes the godmodder just doesn't get it, or if he/she does, just doesn't care. Maybe he or she likes being all powerful and invincible, and the rules can go to heck because they're in control, they get to make their character as omnipotent as they want. If you've been RPing for more than a few months, you've probably run into this situation. Maybe you're Player A, and your character is the one that gets "killed" by the other player. Maybe you're an observer, but you see how Player B is clearly godmodding and breaking the rules. Maybe you're a Staff Member, and it's your job to tell Player B to quit it. It's never pretty, and it's never fun. If Player B is okay with godmodding, he's probably okay with breaking every other rule in the RPG or even disrespecting the staff. On the internet where it's hard to actually enforce a rule on someone who intentionally chooses not to follow it, dealing with this can be frustrating. But deal with it we must, because otherwise, without consequences, Player B can godmodd all he wants and the RPG would fall apart. ---Part 3--- So how should we deal with it? Punish the godmodder? Sometimes this helps. Sometimes they just keep playing without regard for the rules. Ban the godmodder? Sure, that would make things much nicer. But does that guy deserve this punishment? He should be given a chance to improve himself, even if that chance happens to be the twentieth we've given him. Does he even deserve another chance? If we're considering doing something like banning the godmodder, he's probably done enough to deserve it. It would certainly save ourselves the trouble of having to deal with him again (which is a very real possibility). That dilemma is a tough one, but punishing the godmodder is a privilege that only staff have. What should we regular players do if we are godmodded against, or see someone godmodding? Telling them is usually the first option, but in rare circumstances where this godmodder is repeating his "crime", what would we do? Godmodd back? Fighting fire with fire works in many situations, but not in this one. If we try godmodding against the godmodder, he'll just godmodd more, thinking it's okay to, or doing it because we made him mad. Worst case, when the staff finally get to the problem, they may just punish all of us, because we also godmodded. If we sink down to his level, then he has an excuse to break the rules. Ignore him? We could just have everyone not interact with the godmodder, but that may not work if the godmodder actively seeks out people to beat up. The biggest problem is, a godmodder will usually respond to bigger conflicts with even more godmodding. Things escalate without a way for a reasonable solution to be achieved. I don't entirely know a path we can always take against godmodding, but I do know that responding with godmodding definitely won't work. If we get mad over this, then we're no better than the guy who repeatedly godmodds. What I think is the best road to take in this circumstance, is to just let the staff handle it. They have the authority to punish him, and if the godmodder ignores even the staff then there's no help for him anyway. ---End Credits--- A group of kids run around on the playground. One of them points at another. "Bang! Bang!" The kid ducks. "Missed me!" he points at the first. "Bang! Bang! You're dead!" "No I'm not!" "Yes you are! I hit you!" "No I hit you!" "Liar!" "Cheater!"

  14. The 01-13-10 task deadline has been extended a week because very few people had enough time to complete the activity. Gather friends and listen to the fourth session of RPG Fit! Today's date is January 21st, 2010. The weather is stormy in AZ and sunny in WA; with a high of excellent RPers on our forecast. Also, we now have a sister program known as Story Fit! Lazok has set it up, so head over their for your story writing fix. For a while, this program will be split between those who know how to play and those who have no idea how to play an RPG. Not so for right now. If you have not signed up, please post here. That post also contains a list of every task covered so far if you want to look back on things. Now, moving on. For Those Completely New to RPGs Refer back to previous Newbie Tasks to understand the basics of RPGs and for hints to make you a better RPer. For Veteran RPers You may go back and re-do previous tasks by maybe making them a little harder. This is optional, and is not the real task. For Everyone 01-21-10: This will be the last combined task (vets and newbies working together) for a few weeks. It will also be ongoing throughout the entire program. I like to call it the Grammar Police. The way it works is that everyone currently enrolled in RPG Fit will receive 100 points, and so will anyone who joins from here on out. For every grammatical error that is reported in one of your posts, you will lose a point. You can gain points by reporting the errors in the posts of others. Points are awarded based on the amount of errors reported, not the amount of posts. You may only report posts that are in RPGs. Hopefully, with everyone watching each other like hawks our overall grammar can improve significantly. Pants on the ground! Looking like a fool with your pants on the ground!
  15. UPDATE! The current task has been extended a week because very few people had enough time to complete the activity. Welcome one and all to the third session of RPG Fit! Today's date is January 13th, 2010. This post is right on time. Make sure you notify me that you completed last week's task in order to get your points. Shadow Kurahk had 150 haikus. For a while, this program will be split between those who know how to play and those who have no idea how to play an RPG. But not today. For Everyone 01-13-10: This week's task will take the combined efforts of the Newbies and Veterans. As such, there is no specific task assigned to each group. A major part of all RPGs is interaction between players and player characters. In fact, that is the entire point of these games. This week's task is to design and execute a group activity (4 players or more). You will gather all sorts of players (Members of RPG Fit or Not) and coordinate something that will span across several posts, and possibly pages. By this time next week, you need to post a link to the every first post of this activity in the comments. Extra points will be awarded for the size of the event and how well the players worked together. These activities may include, but are not limited to: Large-scale Battle Musical Number (Each participant would need their own lyrics and it would have to fit the tone of the game) Story-furthering Event Make sure to check with the GM of the game you will be playing this in if your event effects the game in a major way. Lickety split!
  16. The cut off time for the Haiku task has been adjusted! You no longer have to do it until the end of the week! If you started on Friday, you can end now. Add one day to the cut off (up until Wednesday) for each day after Friday that you started! Welcome one and all to the second session of RPG Fit! Today's date is January 8th, 2010. We're a little late in coming, but that's all good. For a while, this program will be split between those who know how to play and those who have no idea how to play an RPG. If you have not signed up, please post here. That post also contains a list of every task covered so far if you want to look back on things. Now, moving on. For Those Completely New to RPGs Refer back to previous tasks to understand the basics of RPGs. Now that you have successfully joined and started RPing in a game, you'll want to beef up your writing and your characters. Your task is to RP each post with 250 words each for a whole week. That can seem daunting at first, but you'll get the hang of it soon enough and by Wednesday, it will be a cakewalk. For Veteran RPers 01-08-10: You are to have every post, with at least two characters, contain at least one haiku (five syllables, seven syllables, five syllables) until the next task appears (approximately 4-5 days from now). The amount of haiku in your post is determined by how many other sentences you have. For every ten sentences of text, you will add one haiku. So, a post with 1-9 sentences would have one haiku, and a post with 11-19 sentences would have two etc. etc. Example of haiku: The purpose of this is to strain your creative thinking. When you have a boundary such as a haiku, you must be more creative with your words in order to express the same things. I recommend inserting the haiku when describing your character's emotions or surroundings. NOTE- If you find the Veteran Task too hard for you, you can always switch to the Newbie Task. Chop chop!

    Behold the X-0FAT. It's beautiful, I know.
  18. Welcome one and all to the first ever session of RPG Fit! Today's date is December 30th, 2009 For a while, this program will be split between those who know how to play and those who have no idea how to play an RPG. If you have not signed up, please post here. Now, moving on. For Those Completely New to RPGs RPG stands for Role Playing Game. You may have heard of several kinds of RPGs, but the kind we play on BZP is called a Text Based RPG or TBRPG. A TBRPG is like a playable story. The Game Master (GM) creates a setting and a basic storyline that becomes the structure of the game, and the players write out the actions of their characters. These games can get huge and epic if run well. You as the player, are assigned to create a character. You must fill out a form that is present somewhere in every RPG and submit it to the GM and his staff for approval. Your characters should be detailed and 3 dimensional entities. Try and make them as real as possible (which also means never going overboard in things like powers or abilities, and whatnot). When posting, you will use the header IC: (In Character) to designate which parts of your post detail your character's interactions with the game world. You will also use the header OOC: (Out of Character) to talk to the other players outside the game. Now that you know the very basics of how to create a character and play an RPG, you are assigned to go out and actually join a game. I suggest games like Requiem, The Bridge, or A Midnight's Requiem, because they have just started and will be much easier for you to jump into. Once you have created this character and gotten it approved, you must play that game consistently for one week. That is your task. For Veteran RPers Herein you will be assigned much harder tasks. We'll start out a little easier, but let me tell you that things will get absolutely insane by the time we're done. Are you all ready? Good. 12-30-09: RP without using any special abilities or powers, with at least one character, for at least two days. You must battle and survive utilizing only your wits and strength. I suggest picking a character that relies a lot on special powers to make this harder and more fun for you. Now, get to it! Post any questions you might have below.
  19. First off. Happy New Year. Secondly, as RPers, we don't write stories and create characters. No. We build worlds. But if your world is already completely built, what more can we add to it? Instead of giving us a skyscraper from the start, instead provide us with a foundation and let us be the architects. For that is what we truly are, architects of the pen.

    Dang It!

The Bridge just surpassed Abyss's vote count.
  21. I was seized upon by a sudden random urge to condense the current RPGC history into a single concise list. Well, here's that list. The Captain: 5 wins (2 first place) Celeste: 4 wins (3 first places) Koname: 4 wins (1 first place) Exo-Fat: 3 wins (3 first places) Dr. Bionicle: 3 Wins (2 first places) TPTI: 3 wins (2 first places) Beliwa: 3 wins (1 first place) Kittan: 3 wins (1 first place) CJ: 3 wins Kumata Nuva: 2 wins (1 first place) Sisen: 2 wins V for Vakama: 2 wins Xerry: 2 wins Hakkimus: 1 win (1 first place) Cee-es-wat-tee: 1 win Leppy: 1 win Lloyd: 1 win Mr. E: 1 win Munki: 1 win Parugi: 1 win Shadow Kurahk: 1 win Tiragath: 1 win TL: 1 win Zyrox: 1 win
  22. If you haven't heard by now, I have retracted my entry from RPGC16. The reasons for it can be summed up with what I believe to be my basic rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Life- Things are crazy right now. My parents are splitting up in a few weeks and we're going to have to move. Plus, school is resuming and I'll be taking an extra math class and maybe another science one as well. Liberty- I like to keep my commitments and right now, I don't have space for another one. I have a history competition to enter, other RPGs that I have committed to. Friends, family, church, scouts, the list goes on and on. There is simply not enough free time for me to do so. Pursuit of Happiness- Listen guys, we all know I suck at sequels. Anyone remember AP? I entered this contest to satiate the fans of Villainous and maybe a little bit of my ego. But really, Villainous suffered from my shrinking schedule and HAtD would be even worse. So recently, I asked myself a question. Do I want to subject the players to three months of so-so RPing, or will I drop out and give them the friggin' best last week an RPG has ever seen? I chose the latter and I hope you can accept that. Thanks to all that voted for me. Thanks to the people who stuck by me and were prepared to hold on to the very end. Most of all, thanks to the people who played and enjoyed Villainous. It has had and will continue to have a great run so long as I am in control.I just hope I haven't hurt your feelings too much. And if I have, I would ask your forgiveness. Plus, the race just got ten times more exciting. Blame B6 if there's a tie for third.
  23. After carefully assessing the situation in RPGC16, I have come to a conclusion. We fans of Villainous are at a very tricky spot. My apologies for such a long absence. *glares at computer and myriad of viruses* Now, in order to pull this off, guys we'll need all hands on deck. We will need to cross the Bridge and break through a Tangled Web while listening to a Midnight Requiem for a dream. Who's with me?
  24. Cmon, guys. If you haven't already, could you please look over History According to Dume and vote for it if you want? There's also a great game that's being overlooked right now. That game is Requiem. If you have any spare time, I would encourage you to check out that one as well. The banner below should take you to the poll. Support banners!
