Kopekemaster
Recently I was wondering about to what extent we may use the "report" button (on posts). For example, this topic was originally in the BSC section. You will notice that I made a post saying that the correct place for it was Media. But after posting that, I wasn't sure if I should report it or not in addition to that. So to what extent do we use the report button? Is it only for things that are inappopriate or not allowed on BZP? Or would I have been correct to use it then (I didn't, by the way). Sorry if there was already an answer to this question in the Compendium. I tried to look there, but the formatting problems we are having on BZP made it kinda...unusable. And I couldn't find anything specifically talking about this question in the Rules and Guidelines section either. Thanks in advance-Kopekemaster My Writing Blog (more writing coming soon!) Blessed Blade
You would have been correct to do so; as you can type a summary of why you sent the report. A lot of members use it for reporting birthday topics to be closed and stuff, for example. =) The Pokemon TopicPokemon: Rise of the Rockets - Rise of the Rockets Discussion Topic - Rise of the Rockets Side Stories
Reznas
For the example you gave, definitely report it. The staff don't sift through every topic to see if they need to move it to another forum. So reporting misplaced topics is a good idea. You can also report topic name changes, topic closures, temporary closures, etc. But don't be so overzealous about it. -Rez Edited December 6, 2013 by Reznas
Kopekemaster
Okay, thanks a lot!Could I also use it to ask to close a thread I've made, not just things that are outdated? *hup hup* Meaning this one *cough* EDIT: Ninja'd by Rez.Okay, thank you all for your answers! EDIT #2:It feels so odd reporting something I myself have posted though... 3RD EDIT (wow):Is there a "report topic" button? Or do I just report the original post? -Windrider-
Blade and Rez are correct. The "Report" button can be used for many things. And yes, the answer's in the Compendium, but I don't blame you for not wanting to wade through all the formatting problems. Anyway, if the post or topic is in violation of anything posted in the Reference Desk, then most likely you should report it. One of BZPower's guidelines, for example, is "Post in the right forum." So, a misplaced topic should be given attention by using the "Report" link in the topic's first post. Do this instead of posting in the topic; posting only to say a topic is in the wrong forum or should be closed counts as spam. That is what the "Report" button is for. You can certainly report your own topics, and you should. Here in Q&A forum, for instance, I try not to close a topic until I get confirmation that the member is satisfied with the answer given. You can let me know that your question has been answered by posting and saying so in the topic or by reporting it (or both). In the creative forums, you can usually request for your own topic to be closed temporarily by reporting it as well. This is common in Comics, for instance. Another example would be if you want your topic title to be changed: report the first post with the new topic title that you want. There is no "Report topic" button. You are correct: simply report the first post in a topic to report the topic itself. If you have more questions, go ahead and ask!
