Beardliness Of A Manly Man

If you remember, I started growing a beard in February. After two weeks it looked like this. I didn't talk about it much after that. I think there are pictures of me at eight weeks, but those aren't too good. Then, at twelve and a half weeks, I had to remove it (or felt like it? It was getting unwieldy. I had stuff to do. It was fun while it lasted). It looked like this. (And like this.) And then, in all her awesomeness, Nukaya worked her magic: And presented us with Paul Benyan and his blue ox

Starfighter Wip, Pic 3

Flickr   The third WIP picture of my purple-accented starfighter. I want to push the wings out more, which will be easy. The hard part is still coming up with a stable system to keep them at the proper angle. (I can't use any technic piece with a 120 degree angle because that is too much.) Other than that I made some substantial progress.   -CF

Care For A Jelly Baby?

Over the summer I started work on something. But enough with words, pictures!     That's right, I knitted a Fourth Doctor scarf from Doctor Who! It is 10 feet long and took me 4 months, about 130 hours, to make. It pretty much follows the original pattern Tom Baker wore in the first few seasons (there are 4 types overall).   I'll be warm this winter. B)   -CF

Splendid Fall Break

Let me just say, my fall break has started off splendidly! The majority of my hours awake have thus far been spent with a girl. An AFFOL, Whovian at that! With any luck I can see her again Monday, but alas I'll have to go back to school on Tuesday.   -CF

MÖÇ Doodling

Deciding to fool around with the other 5 tail things from the Toa Mistika I had lying around, I made a quick Vic Viper:   Also, I got a little idea for some of the purple/yellow spikes I have. Kind of looks like an Alien Conquest UFO. I don't know if I'll follow through, probably because of a lack of pieces to attach the spikes. Also I'll need to disassemble it before BrickFair so I can make my flower.   -CF

Fezzes, They Be Stylin'

The TARDIS sure knows it!   But I'm abstaining from Doctor Who tonight. Not only do I have exams to study for, but I'm also going to the Easter Vigil mass tonight. Easter, you know, that thing that is happening at the same time as the Doctor Who premier that the new Who season is occurring in line with? Plus we don't get BBC America in the residence halls. That fact alone totally sucks. Exams, Easter, lack of a live broadcast... So 4 friends and I on campus (yes, Tils, I know 4 Dr Who fans o

Ship Progress

Some progress coming along on the SHIP. And even though I took these pictures probably a week ago they are already outdated compared to what else I've done.   SHIP as a whole Again 102 studs long! Top Middle (the disk has since gone) The back third. Bridge hidden there, and I like the flow Engines, Kakama, different angle to view (I'll work on the end with the disk and slopes)   -CF

Minifig Soup

For the figs that need no introduction Withstanding introduction Also withstanding introduction (I think these are their final designs. Not much else I want to add. Unless I find a better face for Kaylee, and make a browncoat for Mal.)   Early attempts for Inara Sera and River Tam. Coming with a list of recommendations as long as my leg.   (So now all I need are some brown faces and proper hair and torsos for Zoe and Book. Slightly harder to come by, but eventually I'll break, want a complete c

He Hath Been Cupped

A month ago my roommate Ian removed my mattress and hid that while putting the covers back on my bed frame, in case you don't remember.   I had to get him back, of course. I waited a month and then struck. I waited for a morning when he got back from work. He's a police aide, sitting at a residence hall front-desk from midnight to 8 a few times a week. Then he sleeps for a few hours before any afternoon classes he has. This morning was one such morning. I got up at 9, knowing he'd be asleep, and

8 Years

Totally forgot that yesterday was my 8th BZP Anniversary! (Among other things...)   But a day late isn't bad. Here I am! Eight years later! I've certainly changed compared to the first few posts I made way back when. Now I'm a reporter, I've started this blog, been to a few conventions...it's a nice community we have here, and I've felt like sticking around.     I was going to blog about Portal 2, and then this came up to steal that thunder. But I'll still say it: I'm wearing my Aperture Lab

Finding Some Booty

The new Pirates of the Caribbean sets have started to appear on shelves, and I definitely want to get one. I just can't decide if I should get The Captain's Cabin ($13) or Isla De Muerta ($20). Care to give me your own thoughts on the matter? Here are mine:   First off, they are both priced a little higher than proper proportions because this is a licensed theme with quite a few new parts. The price is unimportant, aside from that I am willing to spend the extra $7 for the larger set if it come

Arpy posted some of these a while ago, but I found them recently (though I thought it was entirely his making).       There are tons more (here are my favorites (and mine!)), most of them reflecting the fandom quite well IMO.   -CF

A Day Not Wasted

My roommate sat me down and made me watch all three extended Lord of the Rings movies today, to my begrudging acceptance,* but I must now admit that it was indeed a day (woke up at noon, started at 1 pm, finished at 2 am) not wasted.   WOW.   Great movies. The true meaning of the word "epic." Awesome. Such beautiful landscapes and cinematography, and then amazing battle scenes. Oh, those battle scenes really round it all out.   First was great, second almost fell into the "second in a trilogy

Caving In

Looks like I'm watching all three extended editions of LotR on Saturday, despite not having finished The Two Towers (and thus neither Return of the King).   Part of me doesn't mind. I know plenty of good people who just couldn't read through to finish the books. They are well-read aplenty in other prose.   A part of me is still trying to get over my personal rules of, if possible, reading the book first.* But I know I'll enjoy the books, grab the soundtracks after and enjoy those while doing h

Spoiler Alert!

I'm done. Over with spoilers. No more for me. I want to stay surprised with each episode/movie I look forward to watching. Secrets are now surprises!   Particularly, this is in regards to Doctor Who. I watched Series 1-4.5 not knowing what was coming next. I always turned off the episode before the “next time” clip popped up. But as soon as I finished, I enjoyed the bombardment of Series 5 details that crept up on me ever so easily. But a the same time, there was a part of me that misses the su

Total Eclipse

I don't call too many sets beautiful. This is one of those exceptions: No word yet on release date, piece count or the price, but the first doesn't matter because the last will be out of my price range. (I doubt I'll buy the $140 Millennium Falcon unless I have the funds to buy it on sale at BrickFair. Unlikely.)   But I can sit and look at it.   -CF (Yes, the figs don't make sense. But who doesn't love getting minifigs‽)

Seeding Space Colonizer

Wait, I actually took pictures of a MOC and then uploaded it to the internet?   Yup. This thing started about a year ago was more or less finished at BrickFair (I never added to it). I took pictures of it because I needed the pieces for my SHIP.   The space seeder is something that is sent out to colonize and "seed" other planets in the universe, not only housing plenty of humans but all the tools and food necessary to start a new life. It's got long-term stasis pods for crew, zero-gravity gar

Psa: All-nighters

Don't do 'em, kid. Don't pull all-nighters in any grade of schooling. Also don't wait until the last minute to start your research paper, go to sleep at 3, wake up at 6, feel terrible for a few hours trying to finish the paper, when if you had done it ahead of time like those diligent, smart students one looks up to you could have skipped class (also a bad idea, but sometimes an exception) gone to New York City (for the first time) and met some of the coolest actors in British television.   -C

Procrastination Sucks

Remind me that next time I have a paper due around the time that Doctor Who comes out that I shouldn't wait until the morning that it's due to work on it (and write blog entries) and instead get it done in plenty of time so that I can skip and go to New York City and camp out overnight with a friend who is currently there meeting Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill (so jealous, sheesh, all three!) waiting for the premier tonight (she's 10th in line).   Then again, next year there will b

Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yes, you read that title correctly. Need I say any more? (Pic via the internet.)   My school had a Relay for Life (raising money for cancer research) yesterday/today, and during the event groups sell baked-goods to participants to raise more money. I baked something I felt would be irresistible: a delicious cookie inside a delicious cookie. The mere thought sounds amazing. So I baked a batch and they turned out amazing. Delicious, ridiculous, incredible.   Here's the recipe I grabbed onlin

What's A Good Title To Introduce A Non-sequitur?

And judging by how my bedsheets were half-off my bed when I woke up, I must have had a really rough night.   -CF   (Actually, the little metal rod inserted into my jaw and toothline to serve as a stick to eventually hold onto my upcoming fake tooth is now loose, making food very hard to eat (seriously, I had a donut* for breakfast. Oh Fishy Fishy Fishy Fish

I wonder where that fish has gone. You did love it so, you looked after it like a son. And it went wherever I did go.   A fish, a fish, a fishy ohhh. Seriously, what was going on in their minds when Monty Python decided to produce this skit? Especially that elephant. Stop staring at me!   -CF (Creeped out.)
