Just Walks Away

I just stole my friend's Adipose doll out from right under her nose (more or less. Her back was turned). I should write a ransom note.   -CF

Want: Steampunk Exhibition

I should totally catch a flight out to California for Bricks by the Bay in a few weeks. Why? Because at the very same time in the same hotel is Nova Albion, a steampunk convention. It's like two cons in one! LEGO goodness at one part, cosplay fantasms in the other! I'm going to have to keep an eye on the internet for reviews of folks who attended both. In the meantime, someone make a DC steampunk convention, pretty please? Or give me money to go to Dragon*Con? Love, CF.   -CF Note: Dragon*Co

Adjustment

I saw The Adjustment Bureau yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would say my favorite part was the writing and action that made the movie different and not cookie-cutter: -The bureau members were not stereotypically shady and clouded, just secretive (you would expect the "boss" to have a raspy voice and be cryptic, but he's "normal."). You're first thought is "defend yourself," but then you realize they aren't going to hurt you. -For the first third or so you think "what is going on?", whic

Werewolves Revisited

The writer in me was thinking about an answer to the age-old question: "If moonlight is a reflection of sunlight, why don't werewolves change in the daytime?"   Here's my explanation for it: They need a certain amount and type of light. Direct sunlight is too much, and anything but a full-moon is too little. They need that perfect blend of darkness and reflective sunlight, which is why it won't work on a really cloudy day or early in the evening either.   -CF

Full Super 8 Trailer

I am further intrigued. Figures they don't give us a complete story and idea of what the film is about, but I guess that is OK. They might even be banking on Speilberg's and Abrams's names to pull in viewers, and it just might work...   -CF

Well It Would Help

I don't know about you, but if someone adds me as a contact on Flickr, I don't immediately add them back. I look at their photostream and consider the value it gives me to have updates from it.   The point is: If you want me to even consider adding you as a contact, you'd best allow me to look at some photos first. If I walk in and only see, "This member doesn't have anything viewable to you, but here are some from their friends," I'm just going to walk out, never worrying about you again.   -

Because Who Wants To Grow Up?

A great part of being an AFOL? I don't have to worry about the whole "grow up, stop doing childish things" philosophy. I build with LEGO bricks, so what are the odds of me becoming a serious adult? XD   -CF

Spite

So here's the thing: I haven't read Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers or The Return of the King.   I'll wait for all of you to recover from the state of shock.   I'm currently working on Towers, but it's hard with all my schoolwork and stuff.   Also, I haven't seen those two movies, because I'm picky like that.   Now, my friends say they are going to force me to sit down and watch the movies this semester whether or not I finish the books.   Regardless of if I finish the books, what if I re

Tut Tut, Revisited

Looking over my notes for my current English class (American Lit 1850-1920), the focus is on realism, which the Power Point slides say is a "Strong attempt to represent the typical, average," the "Prevalence of ordinary events," and, here's the kicker, that "Characters are on the street, no larger-than-life heroes who engage in romantic adventures filled with courageous acts, daring chases, and narrow escapes."   So, revisiting the recent entry about stories being believable, where I discussed

Mosaic Time!

Hey guys! Do you want to help make a large Bionicle mosaic for BrickFair 2011? Last year's project was hugely successful, and we've got an awesome image for this year:   To claim a portion, head over to Nukaya's blog and check out the entry explaining the situation. We expect this to fill up quite quickly.   This is going to turn out to be amazing!   -CF

BŻƤ Mosaic: Tentative!

I know what you all are thinking: What is up with the mosaic project that was so awesome at last year's BrickFair?   It's coming, folks!   Just be patient, because Nukaya and I are swamped with homework. I guess it's a 3rd year thing.   HOWEVER, xccj, let it be known is now officially the third member of our team and not to be forgotten in the credits, is a master at the mosaic maker program (and touchups elsewhere) and has provided us with this image:   While that still needs a little wor

Suspension Of Disbelief

What really annoys me is when a fictional story is called implausible.   This message brought to you after reading a quick review for Liam Neeson's latest thriller movie Unknown, which I saw this weekend. (Enjoyable, nice twist, not as good as Taken.)   The review said it was too implausible to be really enjoyable. I have come across the problem in other instances, all the while being fine with whatever implausibility there was. (Example: Eagle Eye.)   My response: Suck it up and suspend you

Beardlyness

Two weeks ago a friend said he wanted to see me with a beard. (Granted, I think he wants to see a mountain-man beard, but that sounds a little excessive for me, despite my Boy Scout persona.) I saw no reason to fight this notion, thought it would be fun, and thus did not shave the following morning. A week later I cleaned up the underside, and it looked pretty good (and a certain girl mentioned in this blog a few days ago agreed, not to mention other friends).   Now it is two weeks later and I

Risk!

My roommates, friends and I enjoy a good game of Risk every now and then (usually once a month, but more frequently would be better if we had the time). We've been playing for over a year, with plenty of good games, but never once have I won.   That all changed tonight!   No, I won't retell it Red Dwarf style, but let me just say the luck of my dice rolls can only come from a former incarnation of myself having sold my soul to the Devil. My friends hate it. It's unnatural how good my rolls are

The I T Crowd

I love British humor! (Well, of course, there's Monty Python after all.)   And maybe just all the other shows England does as well... (Doctor Who, Sherlock, Life on Mars, Outcasts, Primeval, Being Human...) (But that does not let me forget about my beloved American Sci-Fi (and other programing). (Firefly, Stargate, Warehouse 13, The Big Bang Theory...)   That being said, perhaps I should give the BBC The Office a shot.   -CF

Outcasts

BBC? Sci-Fi? Yes please! Drama? Well, seems like I'm enjoying that more and more (what with Stargate Universe and Life on Mars* being a part of my viewing).   I've seen up to episode 3. And wow, it was even better than the first two. I hear episode 4 has a pretty good pace too.   Why hasn't this been advertised more/talked up? One geeky site I visit didn't make a big deal of it until after it aired.   What's also neat is how it's limited to 8 episodes. Seems to me that the BBC doesn't sell s

Slopes

6 or so pounds of LEGO brick arrived in the mailroom today at school. That's about $150 worth of brick.   Awesome.   Strangely, though, it came with ninety-four white 2x1x3 slopes. And 21 double convex 2x2 slopes. I really only need about 30 of the former, and I only wanted a few of the latter in case they came in handy for details on my SHIP. But this is ridiculous.   No, I'm not going to contact the seller. There's no proof I didn't just slip and really order that much (which is probably wh

I Was Framed!

That's what my posters would be saying right now if they could speak.   Recently I bought some frames for a few of my favorite posters, as well as something to display some Boy Scout patches in (though a little small. Unfortunately anything bigger would be kind of ridiculous. The best way to display patches though is on a large leather skin-like fabric).   The Empire Strikes Back You got to admit, that's just perfect with a frame around it. Crossing The Street, Pt 2

Instead of "0 to 60 in 4 seconds," cars should come with "0 to 200 feet in X seconds," that way I know how much time I have left to cross the street before you run me over.   -CF

Crossing The Street, Pt 1

Do you ever have the fear that as you cross an empty road the DeLorean from Back to the Future will just whiz by out of nowhere and run you over?   -CF
