Bold Colors: Building Contest #3

Vote! Announcing... The Chocolate Froggy Bloggy Building Contest #3: Bold Colors!   That's right folks! I have just recently (read: today) obtained a fantastic set of prizes and am not hesitating to announce the contest in which to get these out of my hair. Another building contest is underway and I hope each and every one of you enters. This is especially timely because I know some of you are home from college and near your collections, able to build.   The theme: Mix-and-match clashing

Not-quite Impulse

I swung by the LEGO Store on the way home from my New Years festivities yesterday and picked up a few things:   Nex 2.0 Stormer 2.0 Midi-Scale Star Destroyer for $20   That last one was sort of a "why not?" purchase. I didn't have to, but it looks like it has some neat pieces, and will look nice on my shelf until I make use of it. While it's no Millennium Falcon, I don't think I'll regret the purchase (unlike some sets (caughShadowSnappercaugh)).   -CF

New Bike!

I got a new bike today! It's a silver Cannondale Quick 5 and is really neat. I'll take a picture of it when I get to school and put it in my room. It's a light aluminum frame, which is awesome, and the transitions among the gears is swift and smooth. Same for the brakes. This will last me quite some time and is a good investment for my time on campus and the small bike rides I take in the neighborhoods around school. Part of it was a Christmas present, the other part wasn't such a thorn in

So Here's The Deal

I had a baby tooth removed in July b/c there was nothing underneath it and it was causing the top teeth to sink too low, so they removed it and there's been a hole in my toothline ever since. Today they're drilling into the hole to place something in my toothbone to later hold the fake tooth they'll place in May.   Long story short: I'm having uncomfortable things done in my mouth (again) which included but is not limited to needles to numb out my mouth but it's still weird and icky and unwante

Pomplamoose

I just discovered this duo today. You might have heard them singing in some holiday Hyundai commercials--apparently done in their garage by Hyundai with a lot of freedom to Pomplamoose. I like the sound they put to some "classic" songs, and a few might be their own. Pomplamoose. That's just fun to say.   I'm digging a few of their songs, so I might buy them off iTunes so as to support this small, quirky, fun, not-so-well-known couple.   -CF

Loot

Aside from spending quality time with my immediate family and then seeing my grandma and uncle at my grandma's place, partaking in a delicious dinner and then an even more delicious dessert (all after Christmas Eve Mass the night before), there were some nice gifts to be unwrapped with my name on them:   Lunar Limo Golden Staff Guardians Star Wars Original Trilogy (And I say, it's about time. This has been on my list for half a dozen years now.) The Complete Sherlock Holmes (Volume 1 ) Sol

Merry *exterminate* Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone!   Unfortunately that's not my tree, but now I have inspiration once I have a place of my own.   I hope everyone has a good time, whatever you're doing.   -CF

Found Some!

Yesterday I went to my Toys R Us looking for the Series 3 minifigs. Upon arriving at 11 a.m., I saw no figs on the shelves but I asked the woman unpacking the LEGO sets if any had come in. She said it was my lucky day, as she had just taken a box out. She opened up a brand new, green Series 3 box and handed it to me (and my 11-year-old sister). We had a quick chat about my dot list and then I had at it.   Turns out she was the LEGO supervisor for the store (someone who I had only encountere

Christmas Music

My favorite Christmas music: The Calling's version of Carol of the Bells (or any version for that matter, especially Trans-Siberian Orchestra's) Snoopy vs the Red Baron by The Royal Guardsmen Jack Johnson's Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Relient K, and Barenaked Ladies Christmas CD's Newsboy's Christmas songs Anberlin's Baby Please Come Home The Stowaway by Murray Gold as appearing in Doctor Who's 2007 Christmas Special Shake Up Christmas by Train   EDIT: I'm p

Skrall, 2.0

I don't normally buy myself specific things during the holiday season, but there was a very minimal chance that I'd find these under the tree so I shelled out the cash at Toys R Us when I went looking for minifigs:   Stars Skrall for $5. Probably the only Stars I would get, I was happy to find him at a good price. Black swords (both types), the helmet...   But here's the kicker: When I recommended the Hero Factory 2.0 in the Staff Gift Recommendations I didn't think they would actually be a

Tron: Legacy

I liked it.   However, hear this: You can't go into it thinking it's going to be the best thing since Inception. The story is fairly simple, be warned, but the visuals and worldbuilding of the Grid, the characters, and the action make up for it. If you want to see it, I hope you do and enjoy it for what it is.   » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « In all honesty, it plays out pretty much like Tron: They're at point A, they need to get to point B, and there are obstacles along

Canceled

What a bad day: First my Tron Legacy in IMAX plans were canceled, and now it was just announced that Stargate Universe was canceled (say what you will, it was getting pretty good and they had a plan for it). I'm bummed.   I think there were other thing that made this day even worse, but I can't remember them so I guess it's not that bad. Maybe not having people around to play in the snow with me.   On the up side, I'm finishing Chuck season 2 today while packing to go home.   -CF

Gorram Snow

The snow that is currently falling and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon have made the 3-story tall screened IMAX theater cancel their midnight showing if Tron Legacy. Unfortunately I am coming home tomorrow with no chance of returning soon to see it anyway.   I will, however, be seeing it with my best friend back at home this weekend or the beginning of next week. But it won't be the same experience. Just think, with a screen that big, it would have felt like we were in the Grid.   -

Viewing And More Viewing

With school out, I've had plenty of time to "catch up" on things I would like to watch.   I have already said I started marathoning Chuck, having watched 7 episodes in one day and am so far 12 episodes in to season 2. I also borrowed a few DVDs from the school library:   Die Hard: A movie my friends said was the best Christmas action movie, and I couldn't agree more. Quite good. (For the record, my favorite Christmas movie is The Santa Clause.)   Dead Poet's Society: It was really good. I

Tubular, Dude

New space ship WIP:   I jumped on my idea I've had for a while now because a parts order came in today! The parts order did not contain the 72 purple-yellow spiked from the Dark Panther, but about half of the hinge bricks beneath them. (I already had them from August when a WAMALUG member gave me 60 of them from his 12 sets he got for helping clean up on Monday after BF. All he really wanted were the robot figs.)   I have another plan for these come BrickFair 2011, TBA soon. Especially c

Chuck Marathon

I watched Chuck all of last night while I sorted through my uncle's Flickr album of vacation photos for a calendar I'm making him (and then I sorted some LEGO bricks when I got tired of that). Season 2 episodes 1-7. Within the first few minutes I was reminded of why I loved this show so much: Chuck is introducing his secret agent buddies: "This is Sarah. Yeah, I know.... This is Casey. He's not as pretty." But it got better. When Casey brought out the big guns from their secret lair, and C

Alright, Syfy

We had a Warehouse 13 Christmas episode. Same with Eureka. Did nobody think of the potential of a Stargate Universe episode--Christmas in space? (Say that slowly. Like, "Christmas! IIINNNNNNNNN...SPAAAACCCEEE!)   It would have been neat to see the crew get all homesick when someone realizes what day it is. There could be sheepishly-made gifts, some improv mistletoe, and they would bring a tree aboard from another planet and that is when the trouble starts. Some sort of parasite (like we ha

If I Still Did Conventions

I'm not going to Katsucon in February, for the first time in four years, and I do not know when my next convention will be where I will be able to cosplay. (Obviously BrickFair doesn't count. Those are entirely different from Anime/Sci-fi/comic/geeky conventions.) But if I did (maybe Madicon in March, a sci-fi/fantasy convention at a big college in Virginia), I would be tempted to cosplay as the Raggedy Doctor. How fun would that be? I would need the pants (the hardest find, since I would wa

Problem With Verizon

That's not something you hear very often. Usually, people that have Verizon love it (and people that don't sometimes do as well, but this isn't an entry about phone service). But I am a little irked right now.   I am due for a new phone soon, which is good because my EnV2's front "OK" button stopped working in August or September. Unfortunately all the good phones require a data plan, usually at least $15/month but the $30/mo unlimited data package is the best deal. There's no way I feel li
