Tell Me Why I Should Join the Ambage

For a long while now I've been considering joining the Ambage. When the Ambage first started up a while ago, I was skeptical that it would last, for all of the other BZP writers' groups/clubs I'd seen in my time always died of inactivity (not to mention they seemed more focused on giving out "rewards" rather than actually encouraging writers to improve their craft). I fully expected the Amabage to die within a month or so; after all, that's what happened to all of the other BZP writers' groups/c

Pokemon ORAS Demo: My Initial Thoughts

As some of you may know, Nintendo is distributing codes for the demo for the upcoming remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, called Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which are coming out almost exactly one month from today.   In the US, you can get these codes by signing up for their Pokémon Trainer Club Newsletter. When you get the newsletter in your email, you take the code and put it in the Nintendo eShop to download the demo onto your Nintendo 3DS system.   Since I thought Ruby and Sapph

Who do I write like?

Recently I have discovered this delightful little website called I Write Like. You basically paste an excerpt of your writing - blog posts, journey entries, comments, chapters of novels, short stories, poems, whatever - and the website tells you which famous writer you write like.   The best part about this website is that you can do it over and over again, having it analyze excerpts of your writing from different stories. This I did and got different results almost every time. Here's the full l

The Greatest Bionicle Fanfic Ever Written

Nine years ago, my brothers and I collaborated to write the single greatest Bionicle fanfic ever written. True, most of us didn't know how to write at the time and we had absolutely no experience writing any sort of fiction at all, but gosh darn it we didn't let those minor inconveniences get in the way of us writing the greatest Bionicle fanfic ever written (and yes, the italics are totally necessary. Why? Because it's the greatest Bionicle fanfic ever written that's why).   You must understand

This needed to be reposted

I posted this on this blog back in September for Mask of Light's tenth anniversary, but it was deleted in the hacking, so I thought I'd repost this gem for everyone to see again.   Watch and be amazed. Or cringe in horror. Both reactions are appropriate, really.   -TNTOS-

Bad Lip-Reading

These are some of the awesomest Internet videos I have ever seen. Ever. And I have seen a lot of awesome Internet videos.   Favorite quote: "I'm crazy, and I'm right" - Rick Santorum.   -TNTOS-

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

So yesterday I watched an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the first episode of the series that I have ever actually watched.   It was the newest episode (I think), Episode 18, where Pinkie Pie tries to befriend Cranky Doodle Donkey.   To be honest, I really wasn't expecting much. I have never been interested in "girly" cartoons and, despite all of the praise the series has, I thought it'd just be another show whose fanbase produces more material than the actual company does. Wii-U

Yesterday we got a Wii-U -- specifically, the more expensive version -- along with New Super Mario Bros. U. I haven't really played with it or used most of it features, but I'm not particular interested in it. Maybe if we had more games for it I would be, but right now the PS3 just seems better.   NSMBU is pretty much the same as the other NSMB games, except the world map takes a cue from the old Super Mario World game for the SNES, as well as a couple other minor changes. So if you liked the la

National Novel Writing Month

Today officially kicks off the first day of NaNoWriMo 2013! Yay!   This year, I am writing an original fantasy novel titled The Mad Voyage of Prince Malock. As you have probably already noticed, I have added a NaNoWriMo word count content block to this blog, which will be updated daily as I write my novel. Feel free to borrow the general format for your own blog if you are participating this year. Or not. Whatever floats your boat.   Best of luck to my fellow NaNo novelists as we strive to hit t

Texas Weather Is Weird

One day, it's extremely hot and super dry in the low 100s. And then the next, without warning, is completely perfect weather in the low 60s to mid 70s, with perhaps an occasional rain shower to help wetten things up a bit. And then after that we get super cold weather that makes you wish it was the in the 100s again, despite however much you may have been cursing the hot weather in the last few months.   That's the best way I can describe Texas weather. Snow? What's snow? We don't get that down

Whatever happened to songfics?

Back in the old days, the Short Stories forum used to be home to many songfics, which, for those who may not know, is the name for stories based on/inspired by certain songs, with the lyrics of those songs usually inserted in between the paragraphs of the story at certain points. An example would be if I wrote a story about 2006 with the lyrics from Move Along inserted between the story paragraphs (though the song doesn't actually have to be related to Bionicle to be used, obviously).   Maybe my

Computer help, anyone?

Hey, guys.   Recently I downloaded the zip.exe program from this website in order to compress my files into the EPUB format (I'm learning ebook formatting, BTW, and the guide I am using said I needed this program in order to make my ebook).   But while I managed to download the program with zero problems, it's acting up on my Windows 8 computer. Every time I try to open it, it opens and then immediately closes before I can use it. It just won't stay open for some reason.   I did some googling an

Sherlock Series 3, Episode 3: His Last Vow

Just saw it today.   All I can say is that I really want to see Series 4. Like, right now.   Sadly, we probably won't see it until 2016 at the earliest, if the release schedules for the last three seasons are anything to go by. Guess I'll just have to wait.   -TNTOS-

Conflicting Impulses

As the title suggests, I have two conflicting impulses regarding my fanfiction that just won't settle their differences and become friends:   On one hand, whenever I post a new fanfic I almost always crave reviews. Good reviews, bad reviews, constructive criticism . . . whatever anyone has to offer. So I advertize it in my sig, in my blog, doing whatever I can to make sure that everyone and their dog knows about it. Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I do expect people to read my stuff

Hero Factory

I only have four HF sets so far, two from last year, two from this year.   Of the four, Stormer 2.0 and Rotor are my favorites. Fire Lord and Preston Stormer are okay, but not all that great IMO.   Do I consider myself an HF fan? Not necessarily, no. But I do like some of the sets, though the story doesn't seem like much to me.   I much prefer BIONICLE over HF, but HF's sets seem like a worthy replacement for BIONICLE's sets, although I think BIONICLE had the superior story of the two.   -TN

Na No Wri Mo: Finished And Over With

That's right, folks. I reached the 50,000 word minimum for my NaNoWriMo novel, BIONICLE: The Legend Reloaded. However, the story itself is not yet finished, although it is extremely close to the end.   So yay and stuff. My third year of NaNo is a success. To celebrate, I shall go to sleep soon .   -TNTOS-

Driving Test

So yesterday, I took the driving test for my driver license.   And I failed. Miserably. Not only that, but I may need glasses, too (although that doesn't surprise me, since I've wondered about my eyesight for a while now).   Oh, well. I can always retake the test once I get some more experience. I'm still bothered (mostly at myself), but it's not the end of the world. Lots of people fail the driving test on their first try, so I shouldn't have expected much from myself. I'm still not happy, thou

Question For My Reader(s)

Hi there, my fellow BZPers and bloggers.   As you all probably know by now, I've been working hard on finishing editing of the third and last epic in the Shika Trilogy, An Unlikely Alliance. I have said I wouldn't post it until I'm done with it and I nearly am (only about 40 or so pages to go).   However, I am wondering if I should begin posting it while I am still editing. Essentially, while I would not be finished editing it yet I would post chapters anyway. This idea could work, I think, be

Cool Typing Test Website

Check this website out.   Found a link to it on another website yesterday. It tells you how many words you can type in a minute, though the disclaimer at the bottom says that it is not perfect and will only give you a clue as to where you are, speedwise. Still fun and slightly addicting to do, though. Almost like a game, really.   My personal best is 87 a minute without missing a single word. Of course, that doesn't mean I always write 87 words minute, since I don't usually type that fast duri

I was doing NaNoWriMo before it was cool

Like many of my fellow BZPers, I am going to be participating in NaNoWriMo this year. This will be my sixth year, I believe, as I first participated in 2008 and have won every year since and don't see that changing this year, even though November is gonna be a busier-than-usual month for me, I think.   On a side note, I think this is the most BZPers I've ever seen say that they will be participating in NaNoWriMo. Seriously, most of the time NaNoWriMo just sort of comes and goes around here, even

Lost

So I've recently started watching Lost, since the entire series is on Netflix and what not.   Thus far I've only seen the first four episodes, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. My favorite character so far is probably John Locke, but that could change as the series progresses.   -TNTOS-

Happy Birthday to me

Today is my birthday. I got a phone card from my Dad yesterday and we're baking a cake today (it's just about done, I think). As always, it's going to be a small, family event. I imagine today is not going to be radically different from most days, as I have no particular plans for my birthday.   Funny how this doesn't bother me. When I was a kid, I was always afraid people would forget about my birthday, even though no one ever did. My birthday always seemed like the most important thing in the
