Death Cab for Cutie

I picked up my first two Death Cab for Cutie albums, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes and Codes and Keys, at the library today intended to help create a niche of indie rock in my musical collection. I've listened to all of We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes and am listening to "You Are a Tourist" (now "Unobstructed Views", and now "Monday Morning", and now "Portable Television") on Codes and Keys as I type this.   Since these are my first real indie rock acquisitions, I would like to s

Animal Farm

I really enjoyed Animal Farm, but oh, was it tragic. I kept hoping a happy ending would appear, but considering the events it allegorizes, such hope was misplaced. George Orwell's rather straightforward writing style took a definite back seat compared to the plot; his satire did its job and did it well.   In short, I understand why this book is considered a classic.   Now, would you please excuse me for several minutes? I'm busy mourning.   (No, I am not crying. Yes, I would appreciate a handker

Who Remembers Lesovikk's Hiatus?

I remember when the Lesovikk's Hiatus contest was first announced. I submitted two entries, and then shortly after, KanohiJournal was disbanded, and the contest slipped through the cracks. 'Twas a pity.   Wouldn't it be cool if the contest were to return? Let's consider for the purpose of this hypothetically hypothetical example that the contest would no longer be considered canon but fanon. Would you still be interested in entering? I know I would.   But -- alas! -- the contest is definitely no

Freedom!

My last math test of the summer was today. I believe I did well, but that isn't the point of this entry.   What is my point, you ask? Well, it's quite simple, but for the purpose of clarification:   I'm freeeeeee!   Ahem.   I am free, ladies and gentlemen, from the tyranny of summer education, free from real life's attempts to hinder my artistic creativity, free from the omnipresent eye of the Pythagorean Theorem (I swear, it followed me everywhere in Pre-Calc 2). Let real life quake in its boot

You're Stuck with Me for Six Months

Perchance you're wondering how I happened upon six-month Premier Membership. Allow me to satiate your curiosity.   My plan was a devious one. Upon seeing the LSO COT Comedies contest almost empty, I proceeded to enter perhaps the most drab, torturous piece of garbage BZPower has seen to this day under the guise of a comedy. The judges promptly heaved the title of first place onto my shoulders and made me say (I crossed my fingers) that I would never again blackmail them with such rubbish as my s

Instrumental Album Progress

Those of you who have read my blog in the past may know that a while back, I endeavored to create an instrumental album using only synthesized instruments. My plan is well underway; I currently have thirty-nine minutes of music assembled in a rough tracklist. However, those thirty-nine minutes are partitioned among twenty-two tracks, most of which are under two minutes long.   I'm planning to cut the less important tracks in the album, expand some of the remaining shorter ones, and give a last-m

Dark Side of the Moon

After letting Pink Floyd's album Dark Side of the Moon sit in iTunes for a few months, I decided to listen to it today.   I like it. I really like it.

Basics of Parametric Equations

Since I'm taking a math class, why should I not bring some educational value to this blog? Writing mathematical explanations will help me better understand the concepts and perhaps allow you readers to comprehend them with more ease, as well.   Note: This is a simple subject because I don't want to jump right into describing more complex things without working my way to that level first. I'm just learning pre-calculus, after all.   * * *   Let's consider a typical quadratic equation, y = -x2 - 2

Electronic Music

If you hear electronic music on the radio, chances are it's dance-pop. I don't mean to imply dance-pop is intrinsically bad; it just has no place in my musical tastes, partially because a lot of it sounds musically similar to my ear, partially because of its rampant overuse of Auto-Tune, partially because I tire of lyrics about clubs and flirting, and partially because I don't like dancing. It's a shame that those sorts of songs are chosen to represent electronic music on the radio, because ther

Sprite Kit Posted

The Nova V2 sprite kit has been sitting on my hard drive for a long, long time, so I thought, Why not post it on BZPower and let sprite critics tear it apart?   Okay, you caught me: I didn't quote my thought process verbatim. However, that was the gist of my reasoning behind posting it, so if you want to provide a rusty spriter some pointers, check out the topic.

Obligatory "Ooh, New Theme" Entry

Only after I finally became accustomed to the default theme did the theme change back to a more classic feel. It's the story of my life, I guess.   In all seriousness, I do like the more Bionicle-themed graphics. I'll probably post in the theme's talkback topic soon about some nitpicks, but I'm glad to see some change. If there are more updates to the site coming, I hope they're as good as this.

Should I Make Comics?

I've been wondering recently whether I should attempt running a comic series again. I will be free for most of the month of August, and in between trying to write a novel, reading, roleplaying, stockpiling music, and generally enjoying the summer before it's over, I think I'll have some time to hone my sense of humor.   If I do make comics, I'll most likely make a custom sprite kit. Provided anyone wants to help sprite if and when the time comes, I will be posting spriting updates in my blog. I

Write-off Stories -- Theme: Rebuilding

Since Velox and 55555 are currently absent and can't post tonight's write-off stories to the official blog, I'm posting them here for now. I can't figure out a way to prevent excessive scrolling without abusing spoiler tags, so I suppose you all will have to deal with it.

Of "Roundabout" and Minifigure Series 7

On the way home from returning albums I checked out from the library a week ago, "Roundabout" appeared on a radio station that played oldies. I didn't even know Yes appeared on the radio anymore. Another Yes song started playing afterward, but I didn't recognize it.   When I came home, I was treated to my mother's surprised face when she found a package to a Legolover-361 in the mail. My prize for winning the Music category of the Flash Fiction Marathon -- for that was the package -- was a sava

Happy Anniversary, BZPower!

Four score and eleven years ago, BZPower came into being. Today, we celebrate its birthday by thoroughly abusing our anniversary Premier Membership privileges for the next week, especially when half of us should be doing real-life work. (Hey, it's the sentiment that counts!)   In all seriousness:   Thank you for all the fun times you've given us, BZP, and here's to better years ahead.

What I Got For Christmas

I'm back -- and just in time for Premier perks to end. Why don't I end this blog (for now, at least) on a happy note?   I had a fantastic Christmas, not least because my brothers and I finally have our own albums! On Christmas Eve, our uncle supplied us with one each: I got The Fray by The Fray, my younger brother got Waking Up by OneRepublic, and my youngest brother got Greatest Hits by Bon Jovi; the next day, I found in my stocking Vice Verses by Switchfoot, my younger brother found The Resist

I'll Be Gone For Christmas

If ooooonly in myyyy dreeaaaams...   I won't be online for the entirety of both Christmas Eve and Christmas; I don't want the internet to get in the way of enjoying the holiday with my family, and I definitely don't want it keeping me from fooling around with my loot come Christmas day. I'll probably be back online on the twenty-sixth, the day the free Premier perks end.   Until then, a merry Christmas to those BZPower members who celebrate the holiday.

Taming RРĠ Contest 22

Yes, I just had to use the above title for this blog entry.   The RPG Contest 22 polls have been posted! Be sure to vote in both polls; my entry, Techna, can be found in Preliminary Poll Kermit. Be sure to read through all the entries in the contest -- there are a lot of good RPGs.

I've Finished Reading Brisingr

In my humble opinion, Brisingr, the third book of the Inheritence Cycle by Christopher Paolini, is the best yet in the series. I've heard criticisms that the book was far too long-winded and that all of its first part was nothing but filler; having read through the entire novel, I have to disagree. The "filler" was necessary, lest Christopher Paolini end up with a rushed book that would not have been nearly as satisfying. With all the descriptions, I found myself that much more connected with th

I Got Brisingr!

While out Christmas shopping, I was allowed to buy a book for myself. Choices of One by Timothy Zahn was too expensive (twenty-seven dollars, plus tax), so I bought Brisingr by Christopher Paolini instead. I have high hopes for this book, seeing as I not only enjoyed the first two but passed up a Timothy Zahn book to buy Brisingr instead.

Free Premier Perks Ending In Six Days

I'm going to miss this blog. It's been fun and really gives me an urge to create a blog that can be linked to on BZPower (not Twitter, though). I hope everyone has had an enjoyable experience reading my blog; who knows? -- maybe I'll be able to afford Lifetime Premier Membership someday soon.
