Away

Going to be offline tomorrow, Saturday, and probably most of Sunday--Worldscape and all will be resumed and active when I get back! Don't kill yourselves!

Worldscape

It's been a long while since I've taken a serious undertaking on BZP. You know, a full-fledged, multi-person effort that requires devotion, time, and unprecedented overuse of your creative engines until it explodes. I have a spark of an idea that would merit such a title, and it's called Worldscape. How it actually would function on a day-to-day basis, I have no idea, but it's an idea I've been toying with for a while, and the idea seems particularly tempting.   The basic concept is that a team

Subliminal Messaging

Prince Conventionality peered out beyond the window of his chamber, his kingdom an infinite expanse of utter satisfaction. Sheer contentment. Children ran through the streets, their mothers beckoning them in uncannily similar mild but quite proper British accents to get away from that weapons dealer before you get any ideas of joining an assassin's brotherhood or fighting armies on your own with your girlfriend, and don't you forget the way our glorious and unrealistically perfect Prince Convent

Freedom Of...

Nowhere in the U.S. constitution does it state explicitly that BZP has any right to prevent my freedom of speech.   ...Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution does it state that I will get arrested if I murder your great aunt's second cousin nineteen times removed with a ice cream scooper.   So I'm safe on both counts.

The Greatest Live Songs Ever Performed

In no particular order--   1. Clocks by Coldplay, off of Legtrightleftrightleft. 2. Round Here by Counting Crows, off of Across a Wire: Live in New York. 3. Two-Step by Dave Matthews, off of Live at Folsom Fields (may be the wrong album, as he does some ten or so live versions, all with some of the greatest intros of all time, but I believe this is the best, if it's the one I'm thinking of. 4. Where the Streets Have No Name, live at Slane Castle, or if you want an album version--slightly dif

I'm a pretty cliche guy, but this is quite possibly the cheesiest thing I've ever said.   Shall I expand?

'suggestive' Sigs

On the topic of homosexuality displayed in public signatures in otherwise totally appropriate context--   I'm going to keep my own personal opinion private. There's a reason it's an international debate--if there was a single valid answer, someone would've formulated an argument convincing enough to prove it. Keep me out, but I do have some points you might find interesting if you do want to get involved, quoted straight from the BZP Rules & Guidelines--     First of all, you may have a

Album Reviews

A couple of weeks from now, I'll review one or two music albums. First you guys can submit some albums you want reviewed--whether it be because you want everyone else to know how amazing it is, you haven't bought it yet and want to know if it's worth it, or you simply want to get me to hear it--then we'll poll the options once or twice, and then the reviews. So, submit away! Try not to vote for an album someone else already suggested, as that's what polls are for, but of course you can comment o

The 80s

So, I noticed Phyoori blogged about the 1960s, and Flying Mummy about the 70s, so contributing to the likely unintentional sequence, post something fantastic about the 1980s!   My personal favorite? The fact that Pat Benetar+Fleetwood Mac+Metallica+U2=Score for the music gods.

Staff

It sucks.     Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the BZP staff. I've been to several forums online, and BZP's staff wins by a landslide. Other forums have genuinely friendly, humorous guys running the site, but they often have no idea what they're doing--reality is not outweighed intention. Others have some hardworking, knowledgeable, and particularly obnoxious, self-absorbed staff, and others still just have a clueless, rude staff. BZP's staff is incredibly professional, goes the extra te

Psychological Brilliance

If you instigate rules in a society, it creates two polar groups--those who rebel specifically for the sake of sticking it to the man, to spite the guy in charge, because revolt is fun; and those who take the task upon their humble selves to aggressively enforce those rules and assume an authority that was never officially assigned to them. The former just results in futile anger on the party of those whose rules were broken, and the latter results in individuals who will act almost maliciously

:/

So my guitar teacher left the house twenty minutes ago, after my last lesson with him. He's moving to LA next week for an internship at CitySound studios; he's around 25. He's an amazing guitarist with fantastic taste. He taught totally unconventionally--brought a few things to learn, talked about music, referenced totally inappropriate things that should've never entered the hour. Anyway, he was a seriously incredible teacher, and it's kinda depressing to see him go. Played Wish you Were Here b

So I Herd Yu Liek Rpgizzles

Hey.   You.   Wanna know 'bout the RPGs you might see from yours truly?   Well, one's called Project Junkyard.   Sounds childish?   Because I personally don't think religious murderers, heaps of half-mad, hive mind trash monsters, robots, and apocalypses sound childish.   But that's just me.   Second one is still unnamed, but I'll let you in on two phrases--   Pioneers on Artakha, and revolutionary gameplay.   Now scat!

Syndicate

Who knows what it means, but it sure is a great word.   ...On an entirely unrelated note (not that I'd know it's not related, since I'm not quite sure what a syndicate is, or even if syndicating is legal in the US yet), had my second week of band class this past Sunday. We're doing a few songs at the performance, six weeks from now. How do these sound--   Rolling Stones--(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction Jimi Hendrix--All Along the Watchtower Aerosmith--Dream On Led Zeppelin--Stairway to Heave

Writing Abcs

Well, first of all, the House is back!   Now, onto more important business.   That's right, it's the House of the Rising Moon's very first contest, Writing ABCs! Hosted by yours truly, RM. You know, that guy in the title. Instructions are simple enough--first to write 27 SSs, the title of each beginning with a different letter of the alphabet and one more beginning any number (7, not Seven), wins! What what, you ask? Well, at the moment, only eternal glory, but if anyone's up for donating a pr

A Bit Of Uncertainty

...It can spice up life.     So, clearly, I've been off BZP for quite a while. I'm dealing with some stuff in my life at the moment, and I sorta got a lot on my plate, both major and minor. I've trying to prioritize, and right now BZP is not at the top of my list. To be fair to you guys, I'll let you know that it's not at all due to being overwhelmed academically or a familial issue or anything; it's mostly personal, in case anyone's wondering.   You have no idea how sorry I am to throw this

Quick Writers' Alliance Note

I have found the solution to the WA's inactivity, and I think all the participants are going to find it really interesting and definitely fully functional. When the WA comes back up, we'll try to recruit as many members as possible, and there'll be a spike in its activity. The solution's a secret for now, but the official reboot should occur at mid-January, absolute latest. I think you'll really enjoy the result.   In the meantime, the WAHQ is going temporarily inactive and disappearing from my

A Tale Of War

Go read it!   Anyone wanna make a banner for it? I can give a more detailed premise for it than 'not your average wartime epic' if you need a theme, since the plot's only just begun.

New Year's

It's common knowledge that every January 1st, people like to reexamine their lives and ultimately hope to remodel themselves; to start fresh, in a sense. I just want to take a closer look at that process of reexamination, particularly the reason for its existence in the first place.   The Year Starts Over, So Why Shouldn't I?   This is the most common answer you'll get if you ask a guy off the street why he makes New Year's resolutions. Let's expand on that thought for a moment. We are creatur

Writers' Alliance Status

It's come to my attention (and probably yours, too) that the Writers' Alliance has experienced a clear loss of momentum, at the fault of both myself, as the member responsible for maintaining it, and the participant members. I am already in the process of seeking out a solution to keep it off the ground and ideally flying, as planned originally, but until then any WA related events, including regular Weekly Updates, are cancelled. Expect a solution to be sought out, though, so no need to worry a
