Ganon WIP

I rarely post WIPs, but I'd really appreciate any feedback on this. It's a WIP of Ganon's head from OOT. I used screenshots, official art, and a paper craft of the in-game model to try and replicate his face. I'm not sure it really feels like the head of the massive monster Ganon is, though. Really his head is this strange dark green color, but it's so dark during the battle I thought black would be more appropriate. Plus his eyes are positioned correctly, but without the dark atmosphere th

Gaming/Zelda PSA

SGDQ, a game speedrunning marathon for charity, is happening RIGHT NOW! You can still catch the last day of speedruns and of course the bonus stream afterwards. Check out the constantly updated schedule HERE! Most importantly, there is a three-game Zelda block with A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, and an Ocarina of Time RACE! If that's not you thing, the Zelda block is immediately preceded by a four-game Valve block with both Half Lifes and both Portals, and the planned stream will

Games to Play

I remember the days when I never had a backlog of games, when I didn't have more games than I could play, when I played one game at a time, dedicating myself to it and eking out each bit of play value because I didn't have other games to be getting to. The days when I would finish a game and immediately start a new playthrough. I miss those days. I'm blessed with such amazing abundance, and the games I seek out now are certainly more touching, valuable, quality experiences than many of the games

Gamecube Controller Wii U Adapter is Happening

It's being toted specifically for Smash Bros right now, but the possibilities get me excited. Will I be able to play Wind Waker HD on the original 'cube controller? Will it work with Virtual Console games? If so, all my problems are solved.

Firsts

I recently:   Got my first Mixels, Krader and Flain, for my birthday, along with the Bug Obliterator Galaxy Squad set and some money. The Mixels are really nifty and I think I may buy a couple of Seismos for the joints and eyes. The Galaxy Squad set has amazing play functions that are entirely too fun.   Made my first edit to Wikipedia, because replacing the word "what" with "cookies are good" was so annoying and obvious that I had to fix it. Also I feel like a better nerd now, having done at

Emulators? JRPGs?

Can anyone give me some info on game system emulators?   I've never done a lot of computer gaming, and no emulating at all. I'd like to play Mother 3, though. What's the best GBA emulator? How do I find an emulator and Mother 3 ROM that are very safe/reliable? How do I set up an emulated game?   Any pointers are appreciated.   ALSO if, hypothetically, I wanted to play any one other JRPG--albeit one that has had an official release in the U.S.--what JRPG would you suggest? Preferably ones that I

EarthBound

Wow. That was an amazing experience.   This was pretty much my first JRPG, so I can't really talk about the actual gameplay or battle system, have so little RPG knowledge. I liked the enemy variety, mechanic-wise. It felt great to maximize each character's stats and effectiveness. In a lot of areas, especially late-game, I found myself performing the same psi-conserving, maximum-damage motions over and over despite enemy diversity, just because that was most effective. The occasional difficult b

Done with Undergrad

Last night I turned in my final undergrad assignment before getting my BS in Mechanical Engineering. It was a 100-page research document entitled "Motivations, Values, and Creative Processes of Participatory LEGO Bionicle Fan Community," which feels like an appropriate way to cap things off.   Might try to get it published. We'll see if I have the motivation.

DONE

Finished up Super Metroid just now. Clear time 11:47, 63% item collection. Which tell me that I really need to play it again, because if there's that many items I missed somehow, I want to explore this place more.   Apparently I started playing it in late January. That's a little less than six months ago. This is what IB does to you. This is sad. Although, to be fair, I played Twilight Princess in the interval.   Next up: I got the Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle, which means Mario Kart, Wind W

Finished IB History of the Americas Paper 3. It went surprisingly well, AND NOW I'M DONE WITH IB STUFF. PERIOD.   Except for little things like the IB picnic and (hopefully) receiving my diploma.   I feel so free. And sad. But free!

Doctor Who

I love a lot of things, but it's always been really convenient to tell people that my obsessions are LEGO and The Legend of Zelda.   Then I watched some Doctor Who, and now I have to explain an unwieldy LEGO/Zelda/Doctor Who trio.   Life is hard.   And D&D, kinda Then people see my Franklin Badge and there's another franchise involved

Dear Google

When I search for a college, why on earth do you tell me, even before the address, that it recieved "4.4" out of 6 Google reviews? Has anyone, ever, thought they were going to one college, only to see the Google review number and change their mind? Think, Google.   Google I make fun of you but I love you

Dear College Board

Please stop telling me to take the SAT again. I took it once, I am happy with my score. I realize that many students score better if they take it again. You can stop sending that email over and over. I am also smart enough to realize that, statistically, about 50% of students would do better their second time, even if they didn't get any better at math and writing and everything. So you can see how your emails are pointless. And should stop.

Critique My Video Gaming

This is probably a dangerous thing to ask for, but here goes.   Summer break is coming, which bodes well for by gaming career. I'm trying to keep track of games I'm playing or want to play so as to better allocate time and funds. I've added a nifty content block to the right to keep tabs on these things.   Obviously it's a little Nintendo-centric, and even within Nintendo there are a few franchises which I've never tried. I need suggestions as to what games would best introduce me to franchis

Counter Deck

So I was researching how to make my Simic evolve/counter doubling deck better, and I was amazed at all the awesome counter-adding cards I had no idea existed.   Then I realized that many of them were $10+ a pop, and those were the cheaper ones.   ...You know, Magic is expensive. I think I'll keep my deck casual for now and be content with my two Vorel of the Hull Clades. Although a Kalonian Hydra would be about the best find ever.

Cosmo Destroys OoT Any%

I'm a pretty late in realizing this, but Cosmo Wright, video game speedrunner, has performed a near-optimal run of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, in 18:10.3. He's made a pretty educational and touching video of the gameplay with commentary on speedrunning, the history of speedrunning OoT, explanations of glitches and optimizations, and the like. It's a beautiful watch if you're familiar with speedruns and a very accessible/educational watch if you're not, so I highly recommend it. I
