Watchmen

Darnit I didn't get any work done tonight. Again.   Why Alan Moore? Why?

I've Been Building

For the first time in quite a while, what with all the other distractions.   My fingers hurt.   It's late.   I am happy.

Movies!

So I saw Golden Compass today.   I dunno why they ended it where they did. Can't think of any more important scenes that they had to get through before the end of the first book, and ending it where the book ended would have been better, because it's a nice place to stop. I mean, the book also left you hanging, but everything else was nicely tied off and it was the start of a whole new adventure and whatnot, so it wasn't as bad as stopping in the middle of all the action...   ... and they also

Finalized Again, Will Not Win... Again

Fourth time to the finals, already looks like Hurdy has it in the bag.   Can't say he wasn't deserving. It's a great entry.   Ah well. As I've said six times before, there's always next time.   Looks like this time's lineup's gonna be [Edit: wouldn't count on it, Toa Shmoa and B_D are tied as of now, could change any minute], Hurdy, and Syn.

Classifications And The Common App

Darnit everything needs to come with a nice big label concerning exactly what category it falls into. Because all these forms are so categorical!   Like one thing that has me stymied now is whether or not to mark Chemistry Olympiad as a state level or national level honor. Like, what qualifies as national level and what qualifies as state level? See, I took two tests, one was regional, if I passed it I got to take the national test. And I passed, and took the national test. And didn't pass. But

Go Mark Twain!

Now that I'm old enough to appreciate the non-dumbed-down little-kid abridged versions of good ol' Samuel Clemens' work, I find it highly entertaining. Mark Twain was a very funny man. We're doing Huck Finn in English class right now, and the way he writes the situations and how so many characters have NO idea what they're talking about...   Like the scene where Tom Sawyer is forming their little "Band of Robbers" and talking about killing people and robbing them (naturally, we're talking a gro

It's Ovar! (reprisal)

The title is in reference to the fact that I named a previous blog entry the same thing.   AP EXAMS ARE OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!1ONE   WHOOOOOHOOOO!   SEVEN STRAIGHT HOURS OF TESTING TODAY BUT BOY IT'S OVER.   That means first and last period every day I'll have NOTHING since I had an AP class first and last period every day! The only classes I have left are Computer Programming (haha, class, not really) Latin (don't do too much) and English (essentially my only class, then).   P

Guys I love you all but I can't read your handwriting. D:   Also I'm graduating on Tuesday.   And I haven't made a blog post in ages, have I? Hm.

Crash!

Now here's a scary story. Today coming out of the school parking lot, apparently two of our buses crashed.   Daaaaaang. That is scary. I mean, it wasn't our bus, I know. I didn't even witness it, but... I think our bus sorta had a holdup going out of school. Think we stopped a bit. Didn't notice. I was reading. I'm always reading.   Still... I mean, it can't have been too serious, maybe some people got whiplash or something but I doubt anything broken and if anyone was killed, well it'd be mo

Gym

Today was my last day of high school gym.   EVER.   HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!   Okay, granted, it's getting replaced with Health, but I can sit down in Health, don't have to go through the hassle of changing, can doodle, and possibly sleep.   Also, National Latin Exam results are back! I got a gold! That makes four years in a row, which means I get the fancy $70 Oxford Classical Dictionary for free! =D The other two kids in my class who were also in the running for the dictionary (3 years in a row) al

New Desktop!

Based on last night's sketch seen below.   At 50% zoom bcuz I'm paranoid >>   It's completely scalable anyway because it's fully vector. Obviously I shaded it more in-depth than I did my previous wp, "Fog." Um, I guess if I'm naming them, this one is "Windy Day."   That's actually not the version on my desktop right now; I added a few more leaves and rearranged them a bit. Might add more wind, leaves, and maybe a gradient tomorrow. We'll see.   Oh and y'oughta recognize the cat.   EDI

Made The Us Physics Semis

One out of 150 student's nationwide! That's pretty exciting! Especially since I thought I failed the quarterfinal test!   ... yeah, that's about it. While I'm at it, 52-pickup, chapter 14.

Don't Everybody Get Too Excited

While I really appreciate all the encouragement, I really haven't posted a single chapter, or even an excerpt, of 52-Pickup yet, and I don't want to get everyone's hopes up and all just based on my goal of what I intend to do.   I'm going for something pretty ambitious and I think I have some good ideas but I really don't want to disappoint anyone. Reading over it so far, while I'm satisfied with what I have and it provides a good setup for what I have planned, it's not exactly the funniest o

Christmas Specertaculaaaar!

So me an my family and a friend's family went yesterday to Rockefeller Center and watched the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. =D   It was a pretty awesome show. ^^   Except I was sitting behind a tall person. I have the worst luck in seating. I always end up behind a tall person. I mean, before I could sorta understand that, but I'm not exactly four and a half feet tall anymore, you know? I've shot up in the last year or so but I still end up behind the person two, three inches taller than

Moooooooovies

Well, my Math teacher has us period 3B, and she describes her previous block as "The 2B from [other place]."   So since this week is HSPAs and her class was acting up more than usual due to the classroom move and schedule warping, and since we were ahead of her other class, she decided to give us a 2-day break and showed us movies.   YAAAAAAAAY!   I voted for A Beautiful Mind but more than half the class voted for Dodgeball. =<   I mean I never watched Dodgeball to the end and it was a go

Back!

Feels so nice to be on my computer with its big monitor, actual mouse, and reasonable internet connection speed.   Ten hour car drive... blaaaaargh exhausting. Didn't get as much writing done as I wanted to, since I had a headache, although chapter 8 is almost finished, just gotta wrap it up. It's only the second one-scene chapter, the first being chapter 3.   Speaking of which chapter 4 was posted yesterday.   Also my new (well not really) Sansa has a pretty darned good battery life compar

So I Feel Rather Stupid

I just spent forty minutes thinking I was locked out of my room and killing time.   Campus security finally comes by and unlocks my door and I head in and guess what? My ID card (and room key) was not on my desk.   No. As it would turn out, when putting it back into my wallet, I'd accidentally stuck it into some random pocket BEHIND my normal school ID and a bunch of other stuff including last year's Columbia ID and some calling cards. A pocket I only bothered to check when I'd come back in to

Too Well Hidden

I think there are still twenty-ish Easter eggs at large. Out of a final count of about eighty, it seems.   We'll be turning them up from the nooks and crannies of our house for days. Not even I remember where I hid them.   ... and since I may as well chapter 19, the penultimate chapter of 52-pickup, was posted earlier today.

Go For It

So it looks like I didn't make the next round of the AC. Eh, had fun making my entry, and that's what counts.   So the above is the preview banner I've got in my sig now. You'll notice the rows of little squiggly pixel shapes.   Here they are, larger, and without the faint background text.   Go for it. It should be relatively easy.

Words To Live By

I read a joke in a joke book today, that I actually think is more than just a quick laugh. Goes like this:   How many art directors does it take to change a lightbulb? -Does it have to be a lightbulb?   Essentially making fun of how art directors presumably question everything and are always suggesting something different.   I actually think those are some very wise words. Think about it.   You want to make something light up. Does it have to burn something? Does it have to be oil? Wax? Woo

Braindead

Today was the US National Chemistry Olympiad National Exam. Uh, did I put it up here that I took the local exam and passed? Forget these things, haven't used this blog in too long.   Argh I was so braindead afterwards. It is a test that lasts for ALMOST FIVE HOURS.   -Multiple choice: 60 questions, 1 hour 30 minutes, finished with... five minutes to spare, perhaps? Checked over all my work and caught a stupid mistake at the last moment. Think I did relatively well, did a lot of guessing, but t
