Youth Society, And My D-day

Recently, I noticed something quite… disturbing, or interesting, of late.   No, it's not that my electone exam is a day away. I already noticed that a long time ago.     I noticed now that children and teens were flocking full force out of the house and into the malls.   It's their school holidays, but the polytechnic students are still at school. It's their great opportunity to take over the town.   In the recent MRT rides, more teenagers in their shorts, Birkenstock-imitate sandals or croc

Yippee!

My polytechnic form tutor just rang me up today, and he just made my day.   He informed me that he was ringing up students with a GPA of 3 and above for something special they were entitled to for their good grades.   There was a specialist diploma open for me to take, 2 years covered with 1K (which is VERY reasonable) and it would mean that I would graduate with two diplomas instead of one. The specialist diploma that's open to me is Creative Media Design. Maybe it'll teach me how to use Pho

Writing 101 - Library Tip! The Disabled Author

Library Tip! (No, HH, I would never want to plagarize your idea. Credit to HH for the creation of Library Tips.)   And this applies to all of you! All of you who think writing fiction is easy, rethink!     To many of us, we think of writing as something like a movie playing in our heads. Actions, ideas, plotlines, everything exists in the author's head.   All he has to do is to transfer it into words.   Easy.   Nope. Not easy.   In a movie, we hear sounds and music (the techno remixes and

Wow!

I finally batted away the music theory monster. T'was tiring, but I did it! And finally with some time on my hands, I came back to see what happened to BZP. I recalled it being down for a while.   First thing I saw when I entered the Library section: Hey, the envelopes are back!   I recall that these envelopes were used during my first year here, when I wrote my first epic. Then the server changed, I think, and the old icons were gone.   Now they're back! Hee!   Maybe Hapori Tohu and Survou

Woes Of... Co Curricular Activities?

Most of the members here have an active role of some society made by the school, or at least supervised by the school or the community, which sounds interesting and fun. I don't mind the Scouts tales, and manga clubs, music clubs (oh, they're the most interesting).   I would not be lying that I am turning a bit green. With envy, not sickness.   I'm in a bit of a limbo right now, considering my co curricular activity to participate in during my time as a polytechnic student.   I had, at first,

Who Is Toa Varian?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «He's King Varian Wrynn from World of Warcraft! In Toa form!  Is it OK if you find characters with the same name, but in different realities/fandoms/worlds?   I personally think it's fine. Even the music industry finds it OK - google for a song called 'Call Me', or 'Heaven', or really generic titles. You'll find TONS. The industry says that, if you want to argue about copyright, it's that the idea of the song - melody, lyrics, arrangement - are

Where Do We Go From Here?

It's gone. (For good?)     This was a tricky thing to start and maintain. HH said (in the very last post) that keeping this thing alive was an extreme amount of work. I'm not kidding, it's a lot of work, and drawn out over a long period of time.   Still, I'm really happy the idea made it so far. A newb in the Epics forum started the idea, then Twenty-Two took the helm while I was co-pilot, and now me. I wonder who's next, because I have the gut feeling that someone will pick it up and try it

When The Earth Rumbles...

My geography teacher was right.   After Christmas, expect some geological disaster/happening to occur. It may not strike constantly, but frequently enough to make it a world trend.   Examples? The post-Christmas Bam Earthquake, the infamous tsunami that crashed the shores of Thailand, India, Sri Lanka and other places, and the most recent one this year: an underwater earthquake.   The earthquake occured just off Taiwan, a bit away from Singapore, but its effects were felt here. A few days bef

What A To-do

After my saxophone lesson, I went to the adjoining music store to tinker on the keyboards and the electone on display.   Why? Refer to my previous post.   After the emotional letdown from the exam, I wanted to get some confidence back. The way to do that, as I found out, was to improvise freely or to play songs that I was comfortable playing with, like an icebreaker.   When I turned on the large musical machine and struck a note, to hear a rich sound of strings as the default preset sound, I

What A Lonely Liking...

When I was asked about what I liked, I ranted off the usual things people would have said, and also that I liked them too.   Food, Animals, Music, Peace (oh world peace?), Friends... Transformers (That one, people know.)   ... Bionicle?   Oh may the crickets chirp.   Well, Bionicle is not exactly popular where I am. I'd hardly term is as one of the legendary fandoms that would entice the child of all ages, but it snagged all of us, didn't it?   I like Bionicle. Love it tons by its character

What A Beautiful Language, English Is

What a strange situation to be in.   In front of me was a blank piece of paper. In my hand was a pen.   I was told to write on that piece of paper something to be submitted.     For at least ten years, I've been doing that without fail, in the form of essays and compositions for English.   And it was during the last four years of that ten that I started to love what I was doing. Prior to my major exam at the tenth year, I was writing freely written essays to let my teacher check on my progre

Week Of Festivity

Believe me when I say that I only remembered such a thing as 'Valentine's Day' existed as of yesterday.   That wasn't really on my mind. I have no relations that tie in with Valentine's Day, and the hearts and roses never really did interest me, and still don't at this point in time. I'm not saying that this is permanent, however.   Meanwhile, I'm more pumped up for Chinese New Year.   There's going to be some serious gorging to do, and money to collect. It's going to be the season of red -

Watch The Time

I'm glad I didn't chicken out of the DJ Club.   Today was its first workshop where we finally start learning what's in a mix and what's with the get-up of turntables and mixers. It was scheduled at 5:45pm, and the last school class ended early at 11am.   Taking my liberties, I had lunch at the most popular food court the school had to offer. I missed the crowd and I'm glad I did. The place was packed, packed when I finished.   Allowing my pal to leave first, I tried to do some homework but th

Warning: Rant Dead Ahead!

This is the post where the word 'rantings' has its true meaning shown in its ugliest state.   The bulk of the post is hidden in the spoiler. Be wary of it. If you are sure you won't get a brain freeze by reading a bulk of words that lean to the 'emo' side of this teen-bebop world, go on right ahead.   » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « When I stepped out of the assessment room, the fog in my head was more than palpable. Two's A Duo

If people were guessing what it's like to be a twin, I may have some good pointers and tips about it.   You see, I am part of a pair of twins. My twin sister and I were the two hellspawns which launched my mother into motherhood. Credit for all and most experience of raising children would have come from our arrival and infant years which sent my family on a spree of sleepless nights, expenditure of goods (make that double), and the most expected one: Telling the two apart.   No, we're not ide

Two Presentations In One Day And Ill As Well

Some plague had hit the shores of my sunny little island. Somehow, by some unforseen reason, a flu bug is roaming the island and claiming many as its victims.   I happened to be one unfortunate soul of the batch, along with at least five other classmates and my lecturers, and a couple of others too. I passed it on to my buddy, and just today three more victims were down with sneezes.   What’s more, I have been assigned to be a leader of a group this week – THRICE.   I was chosen as the group

Toying With The Idea

I'm toying with the idea to start replacing some of the hardware on my laptop, maybe even software if I feel like it.   Currently, my laptop is - to quote from friends - the slowest they've seen. They claim that even dragging the mouse across the screen showed a lag in the computer's speed.   I then started the disk cleaning, defragmentation, and moved surprisingly old and unused files to an external hard drive. I had cleared up the computer to get it from a meagre 7% to 22% free disk space.

Top Student Syndrome

When you sit on the top seat, no one will let you get off it.   No, I'm not the top student. I'm not there. I'm a step away from there.   Yet I'm treated like one, while the real one gets away from this scott-free.     The only reason why I excelled over others was probably because I tried my dang hardest, while many of the rest 'shake-leg' and let things take its natural course.   And, as all people who believe in all things good, hard-work paid off.     But the isolation after that was..

Too Many Ideas

For someone who percolates as much as I do, maybe letting a blog sit and fallow for a long while would not be good for his/her mental well-being.   Putting it down straight, I've had too many ideas on what I wanted to blog about. I also partly blame the strange hours I've been returning home from polytechnic for the past week - evening/night time. I rarely do that - it's detrimental to my physical well-being - but it happened. My brain shorts out at night, and hence I feel hardly inclined to bl

To Get The Sister Moving

When my little sister came into the room at 9pm, my twin and I noted that she was still in her school uniform.   She had not gone for her daily shower.   My twin was absolutely nit-picky about that. The surrogate mother of the house ordered the little grasshopper to make a move.   The little grasshopper continued to watch me play my MMORPG.     So, Twin came to me and she decided that we two should take up our duties as Elder Sisters to full responsibility - and get her to the bathroom.   W

To Describe A Rose For An Infinity...

... would be one of the most cruel jokes to play.   Description - one of the most important tools to the writer, and one of the toughest to wield. This is where your style is defined, whether you sit with simple writing, or immerse yourself with steepled, yet brief poems.   I realised that, while writing the next chapters to my fictions, that description was starting to elude me. It was nastily playing tricks with me.   So I stepped back and contemplated.     It's easy to use description whe

To Behead The Pack Leader, To Kill A Mocking Bird.

Imagine a mocking bird in the snowy woods mocking at a wolf that led a dying pack, and the wolf heeds it and drives itself without rest till it collapses.     I just realised that this situation could very-well happen in my newly-formed group.   We have a really fun assignment lined up for us - we're going to make our own MTV. An original song from our previous assignment will be used as the MTV's main idea, and then the video is slapped on top of it. Duh.   Our group was planned as it was, w
