Malaysia Trip: Makan Makan

Greetings from the land that boasts that it's 'Truly Asia'!   Time check, 12:42pm. Listening to: Anywhere Is- Enya.     Well, waking at the deathly hour of four, or about fifteen-past-three to be exact, was something I was prepared for. What I did not expect was my grandmother having prepared my breakfast (pork floss sandwiches, two slices and a mug of Milo) and made me a bottle of honey water. Dad had popped into the bedroom to ensure that I had risen (He needn't worry.) and I went to Mum's

Two's A Duo

If people were guessing what it's like to be a twin, I may have some good pointers and tips about it.   You see, I am part of a pair of twins. My twin sister and I were the two hellspawns which launched my mother into motherhood. Credit for all and most experience of raising children would have come from our arrival and infant years which sent my family on a spree of sleepless nights, expenditure of goods (make that double), and the most expected one: Telling the two apart.   No, we're not ide

Tap Tap Tap

Slowly but surely, the weary girl trudged along, surprisingly ahead of the companion who was with her, but it was no real surprise if the companion was your grandmother.   "The place is closed! The door's closed!"   The girl looked up at her grandmother's Mandarin comment, her head slightly bobbing at the door. The clinic was closed, wasn't it?   Oh no, she saw the crop of some nurse's head bob around through the glass panel on that door.   She hated the clinic, but she could not dismiss

Critic Burnout

Today, I think my brain burned out, and totally melted to protodermis. Unrefined, half-solid half-fluid silvery liquid of Bionicle life.   It was in the middle of a review I had to do. Note: had to. It was no 'must', but I had to stand in defence for my fellow critics when a member 'demanded' about the review that was not done.   We don't ask for good clients. We ask for ALL clients.   And so I was reviewing the work, re-reading the epic to check again and again to see if my points were vali

Bzp Blues

Yesterday, I found myself romping through BZPower more than five times, quintuple the amount of visits I would've made to this site. This place has marked a special place in my memory for being the first ever forum I was an active member in, and I continue to be, given the feat I did above.   And that I was bored.   And today, this wonderful morning at nine-thirty, I proceeded to do the morning ritual: Boot up that laptop, and give BZPower a nice warm visit to see how things were doing.   I w

A Matter Of Taste (warning: Rantrantrant)

It would appear that, as of becoming a critic, my approach towards Bionicle fanfiction had changed tremendously.   That, and the discovery of non-Bionicle fanfiction and more accurately, Transformers fanfiction.   It was a nasty blow to my conscience, that sent me reeling hours even after the immediate concussion.   It got worse when I ran over my drafts for my fanfictions.   They all looked like a toddler's scribbling, paling in the light of the newfound knowledge I had acquired. They look

A Starting Point

The girl stared at the large doors that stood before her. They towered over her, a pair of sentinels to whatever lands the doors barred her from, deterring any thought of making a clear path through.   She was young, though not too young. People have labelled her a girl, and a lady. She did not like either at this point in time. Neither might, no, would have the strength to heave those foreboding doors ajar.   She probably could. She had build, if she had to say anything about herself first. S

Help Arrives

She stoned.   Head and crossed arms on the table, she stared at the screen, its glare glowing on her face and her dark surroundings.   Dull eyes kept looking at the words, but more so at the lack of words.   Where were they?   The topic's been sleeping for more than a week, nevermind that Curator was not present, and hasn't been, for the while.   She was getting busy, trying her best to slip in the reviews from her blank mind. But - where were the others?   That was a question worth mull

Where Do We Go From Here?

It's gone. (For good?)     This was a tricky thing to start and maintain. HH said (in the very last post) that keeping this thing alive was an extreme amount of work. I'm not kidding, it's a lot of work, and drawn out over a long period of time.   Still, I'm really happy the idea made it so far. A newb in the Epics forum started the idea, then Twenty-Two took the helm while I was co-pilot, and now me. I wonder who's next, because I have the gut feeling that someone will pick it up and try it

Soundwaves In The Theatre

I can't wait to watch Transformers 2! I know it's released, but I finally have the tickets - my dad won them, but didn't want to watch it with walk-in tickets. He wanted to book us all down. Good thing he knew a Transformers fan living in the same house as he did.   I'm doing sound for a production called Short + Sweet, an international playwright competition of 10 minutes a play, and I'm helping the Singapore leg of this competition. The stage manager for this event is my little sister's best

A Note Before The Hour Strikes

HAPPY NEW YEAR!   The Internet's slowly gaining speed. By the end of the first week of 2007, it should be completely back to normal.   And that's when school kick starts again - with more than a test waiting for me and assignments to complete.   So I would spend my first week of the New Year chowing down on my work. It does take a lot of kick out of the New Year, but with the celebratory feasts going on, it's hard not to forget.   So, here's to another year on BZP. A revamp would be underway

Something's Funny With That Poster...

I found something really amusing.   The Transformers Movie is going to screen soon, and the posters are growing and spreading like wildfire.   When I took a closer look at one with Mr. Protect and Mr. Destruction (Identified with the words 'Protect' and 'Destroy'), I noticed something really queer.   There were symbols on their faces, etched and rusted.   But they were readable.   Well, looky there, I can read Cybertronian (language of the TFs).   I could read them - because they looked li

Kick-start The Holidays

The holidays have come upon me, during the time when others are still at work and school.   Oooh, how much fun you can poke others with this bit of news.   Ignoring that, I've purposely set myself a few targets and a few more activities to do during this break. As all our lecturers mentioned and repeated over and over again, this was the LAST time we're going to have a good break during our academic stay with the education institute.   The next holiday will be no holiday - it will be work, wo

Gpa Results - Again?!

Looking at the laptop screen at 1am at night, I was wondering why on earth was I going to such extremes for my results.   The exam results were released by email on Wednesday, but it seemed like everyone else had the same idea as I to start logging into their account at the stroke of 12.   And hence I was still trying to log in at 1 in the morning.   But, truth be told, I was nervous. Dead nervous. I recalled my lecturers taking me aside and telling me that either, 1) My performance was up t

Holiday?

My holidays have started on a sad note - I have been returning to school because certain classmates need to hand in work to me, and get 'tuition' on their assignments that were due just today. And tomorrow, I'm called back regarding the US West Coast trip.   And to think I was all prepped up for some relaxation after the hectic school term. For once, a late morning instead of waking at the crack of dawn, and maybe more time to practise for upcoming music-events or dig back into my hobbies...

The Final Run

The last week of the school term, and year, has arrived. Good grief, and the overload of tests/exams/stress/anxiety that followed was surmounting the previous stress I had with my O Levels.   And when Monday came, wham.     My keyboard test, one which I loathed, scored me 81%. Thank you, composers who created 'Route 66' and 'Wonderful Tonight' and all my prior chord knowledge! I made it!   Now, for far harder things to come. Tomorrow's a practical test in studio knowledge that I hope I would

Christmas Wishlist

Two miracles happened today.   One, a group member of the Debate presentation group fell ill to the flu bug. We did not do our presentation today. It gave us the chance to review our points and decide on how we were going to pacify our argumentative classmates.   Two, due to the abovementioned presentation, everyone in class was too tired to listen to anyone and anything, so the science presentation went to a dead crowd. It was a good thing as I was so tired myself that I bet I was incoherent

Compounded

<dd> is sick.   <dd> got the flu bug.   <dd> does not like it.       It's terrible being sick, no? It started yesterday when I suddenly felt warm in an air-conditioned chapel. No idea how or what happened. When I got home, I promptly passed out on the sofa. When I woke up later, I felt like freshly roasted chicken.   Mother told me that I was getting high fever, and packed me off to the doctor's.     Lately in hometown, it's been raining and sunny on an inconsistent rate.

Ancient Treasures

Last Thursday, I bade farewell to my grandaunt, the unfortunate victim of a stroke. I had visited her on the Monday, or Tuesday, of the week she left. My home country bade farewell, on the same day, to a war heroine who knew me, and I wish I knew her as well as she did to me: Mrs Elizabeth Choy. She was a POW (Prisoner-Of-War) who passed messages and food items to fellow British POWs, and underwent torture for her doings. She's a remarkable woman, and we had such a loss.   Double whammy? Yes,

Merry Christmas!

To everyone in BZP, especially those who read this entry (heh heh),   I wish you all a merry Christmas, and may there be a Bionicle goodie under the Christmas tree with your name on it.     The Christmas dance performances have started, with today's Christmas Eve performances a success. Sound levels co-operated with us today, which is another achievement worth mentioning. I brought Ferrero Roches for the evening performance, and they were snatched up quickly.   I've no other Christmas-related

E-learning What?

Think about this:   What if you were told not to go to school? No lessons on campus, no practical, none whatsoever in school?   Instead, you are given a whole chunk of assignments and told to do them online?   How about doing that for a week? (And the week after that, back to school you go!)   That’s what I rooted at home to do for this week. E-learning week is what this week has been termed as.   It’s going to be so boring. The tasks and assignments given aren’t as much as the previous E-l

Music Critic

Now I can wear two Critic Caps.   I'm an Epic Critic here.   But now, for my school's magazine, I'm one of its two music critics.   Absolutely cool. I'm now reviewing 'Dreamgirls' for it's 'Soundtrack' section. It's a fantastic album, sound quality wise and some lovely songs that can be pulled out of the movie context and applied to life! But some tracks really need you to have the movie's knowledge in your head or else you'd be facing a turn-off.   I just need one more album. I'm doing cri

Cats And Dogs

Do you ever wonder why cats hate dogs, and vice versa?   That question ran past my head when my dog displayed the most bizarre reaction to the television - something he ignored on an everyday basis.     My sister and I were watching an animal documentary about cats - a colony of cats that lived in Rome. They were all so fluffy and cute, especially the kittens. Lucky didn't find them so appealing. He laid in my lap, relaxed and breathing softly.   Suddenly, his ears pricked up and became agita
