Compounded

<dd> is sick.   <dd> got the flu bug.   <dd> does not like it.       It's terrible being sick, no? It started yesterday when I suddenly felt warm in an air-conditioned chapel. No idea how or what happened. When I got home, I promptly passed out on the sofa. When I woke up later, I felt like freshly roasted chicken.   Mother told me that I was getting high fever, and packed me off to the doctor's.     Lately in hometown, it's been raining and sunny on an inconsistent rate.

Competition Entry Cum Something For You To Read

The Giving   The Yukta: a race discovered by the explorers of the Twenty-first century, yet its ancestry dating back to the Hundreds. Better known as the Race of Discoloured Eyes due to their diet of raw seal meat (but that is under speculation), they dwell within the Arctic Circle, the land of the Final Frontier where hardly anyone survived, and were believed to be part of the recognised Inuit’s gene pool.   However, the tough race of ice people was slowly dying off, their numbers ebbing awa

Coming And Going

I took the train down to the airport to pick up my twin sis. She returned from a school literature trip in England - and I could not wait to hear what news she had to bring.   When she finally came down, she was one of the last few to collect her bags. The teachers gave a de-brief, and she was one of the first few who walked out of the arrival area.   You could imagine what she had to face when, after a long flight from Europe to Asia, she had to endure a heavy glomp from her not-so-light sist

Cleaning Up!

Anywho, me is sadded. My results came back, and they were dismal. For my final performance, my GPA fell from a 3.9 to a 3.8 (3.865 but I'm not rounding up), with 4 B+s outweighing the A and Distinction. At least my Final Year Project got the A, so I'm happy for that bit. Ah well.   But, at least I did myself proud for the two-and-a-half years before this. My lowest grade was a B, and that was just one in a mix of As and Distinctions. That was my lucky scrape, I guess. With 23 of 32 (flip-flop!

Christmas Wishlist

Two miracles happened today.   One, a group member of the Debate presentation group fell ill to the flu bug. We did not do our presentation today. It gave us the chance to review our points and decide on how we were going to pacify our argumentative classmates.   Two, due to the abovementioned presentation, everyone in class was too tired to listen to anyone and anything, so the science presentation went to a dead crowd. It was a good thing as I was so tired myself that I bet I was incoherent

Chinese New Year Roundup

I came, I saw, I conquered. In short, I had a blast during this year's Chinese New Year - there were lion and dragon dances this year, something the previous year didn't have. I visited more people - my boyfriend's aunt and her family for one. That was nerve-wracking, but it was fun in the end. And the hongbao (red packet) collecting, and the mahjong-playing.   I wish I could go into more detail, but now's not exactly the earthly hour.   But, just for a record:   Hongbaos collected: 28 (as of

Chew On It

This was one of my submissions to the polytechnic writing competition. I think this writing did not bag a prize, but it was fun to write it. I'm putting it up so you guys can nibble on something fun instead of my incessant grumbling.   On a better note, I've reviewed more epics in the ECC, just before school starts tomorrow. Hopefully, other critics can help while I'm at school. And most annoyingly, the last term was going to last only three weeks, and lunge into three more months of holidays.

Cats And Dogs

Do you ever wonder why cats hate dogs, and vice versa?   That question ran past my head when my dog displayed the most bizarre reaction to the television - something he ignored on an everyday basis.     My sister and I were watching an animal documentary about cats - a colony of cats that lived in Rome. They were all so fluffy and cute, especially the kittens. Lucky didn't find them so appealing. He laid in my lap, relaxed and breathing softly.   Suddenly, his ears pricked up and became agita

Can You Feel The Hustle?

Right now, I'm considering of doing something of a fair trade- for my two sisters' sake.   One of them will enter her big high-school-leaving-exams tomorrow. (She's studying right now - more like getting a whole load of Math ravings from my elder sis.)   The other one is going to enter her big junior-college-leaving-exams a week from now. (She's the one doing the raving.)     Both have the same reaction, even though they're sniggering at each other and gaping at all the careless mistakes - th

California's Memories

So, I came back from USA. Old news - maybe not to those who haven't me back (in black) at the Epics.   But, I feel like some memories would be nice to share:   - Down at the front of the infamous Kodak Theatre, 'Johh Hancock' was in full swing of production, with its main actor right in the limelight - and attending to the crowd of screaming fan girls and I do exclude myself from that fray.   But, I did see Will Smith - in the flesh.   - We visited Apple's Campus - the mothership of everythi

Bzp Blues

Yesterday, I found myself romping through BZPower more than five times, quintuple the amount of visits I would've made to this site. This place has marked a special place in my memory for being the first ever forum I was an active member in, and I continue to be, given the feat I did above.   And that I was bored.   And today, this wonderful morning at nine-thirty, I proceeded to do the morning ritual: Boot up that laptop, and give BZPower a nice warm visit to see how things were doing.   I w

Busybusybusy

Recently, I've been given a whole lot more responsibilities, tasks and the sort. A lot more than I bargained for, really.   I'm now part of a Student Portal Conceptual Design committee in the polytechnic, or the school in the polytechnic. I don't know how the teachers picked me to represent DMAT, but here I am. The Creative Writer's Club gave me a bit of news: It's not really a club, it's really an informal gathering - for now. Decisions are being made whether it would be a club or not. It s

Bus Ride

“Oh, that one out of stock. Will come in only next week."   It was not much to ask people to speak proper English.   Ah well. This is, after all, the Little Red Dot. No where in its name did it say it was an English-speaking Red Dot.   And the acoustical music textbook would have to wait.   With a mumbled word of thanks, I left the store.     That was a bummer. Today's classes were only from eight to ten in the morning, and now it was approaching eleven. I had not intended to make the trip

Brickfair 2010.... I'm...

NOT going.   Reason being: I don't think many people would like to fly out of the country for a week or so and fly back, costing more than your regular arm and leg, and you know that there will be cheaper and better options if you wait till next year. I'll be sticking around for Summer in Berklee next year, which means I'll stick around in America, and that means BrickFair 2011 is a much much higher possibility.       Right now, I'm back home in Singapore, for about a month now. 2 more months

Boo!

Something light-hearted for a change.   I'm one of many here that access MSN Messenger on a daily basis, no thanks to the automatic log-in that comes with it. Immediately after startup I get a smack from the MSN Messenger window, along with the onslaught of red and the mercifully small amount of green.   It's not that I don't like many people, but I wouldn't think I would be able to handle the onslaught of conversation windows at one go. I don't know how people manage that, but I'm not confid

Blank Mind

School's a pain. A seriously bad pain. The assignments are piling up, my final year project is due in 3 weeks and I still have nothing. My inspiration has dried, and I feel the loom of a comatose ready to swell over.   BUT - life isn't all that bad. I've finally taken an order in my non-existent order by using the 'Getting Things Done' system - and it's been working wonders. I'm actually getting things done!     I also had fun during the holidays I had. I went on a 3-day outing with my boyfri

Berklee!

Who needs to say anymore? BERKLEE! BOSTON! MASSACHUSETTS!     Currently doing up the sums and conversions for how much I've to pay for Berklee! I had seriously no idea that I'd get in. I thought I flunked the auditions very badly. XD   Oh, and what am I doing now, musically-wise? I'm trying to rush out a project with Imogen Heap's vocals in her Twestival participation. She released vocals she never used before, and now I've got her in a daydream land (hahaha!), swimming in clouds and all th

Berklee Dreaming

So all the hype and hoobla of me going to Berklee is dying down. Good - I haven't been giving that much thought, anyway, because I've been running from school to school, placating kids and admonishing kids - all in a day's work.   But last night brought the whole incident back into thought.   I had a really 'bad' dream about Berklee.   I was already in Berklee. In fact, I was in a classroom in Berklee, doing a proficiency test or interview - it was not very clear. What I did know was that a r

Behind A Name

I realised how canny baby-naming can be - cannily accurate.   My sister's name meant 'Pretty and Graceful'. She's a dancer now, doing ballet and doing lead for her school. She's pretty.   My other sister's name meant 'Pretty Lotus'. The lotus is a symbol of wisdom. My sister scoring well at one of the hardest paths of the available education path. And she's pretty too.   My brother's name meant 'Scholar'. He's in a newly-founded high school of science and maths that would directly lead him to

Back With A Vengeance...?

CNY celebrations have come and passed for me, even if the Spring Festival lasts for 15 days. I have surprisingly not shown any visual sign of weight gain, and I've grown wealthier too. Red Packet Count exceeded last year's quota to a nice collection of 22 envelopes.   And the monetary quota I got... I'll put it as censored and aside before anyone decides to rob my chance of getting a Bionicle set or a good book... or my university degree.     Today, the school website released my theory grade

Back In Beantown!

Guess who's back in Boston?   The flights I took to get here were crazy! Screaming babies, jutting elbows, and that neckache from sleeping without reclining (I don't like to squish others behind me, if I can help it) is hurting a little bit. However, and most surprisingly, where's the jet lag?   *faint*   -<dd>

Back Home

Finally, as of today, after a year and 4/5 months of waiting, I've finally moved back into my old - now new - home.   Even though I walked my rounds around the place over and over, I still am trying to get my bearings down straight. The house doesn't feel smaller, even though it is the result of the old house being halved. Adding a pseudo third storey made this place seem a lot bigger!   During the house-moving, I managed to get permission to sleep over in this gargantuan house between the two

Autumn Leaves

It's time to take a break from all the schoolwork, because fall is here! And I've never seen fall before, at least in its presence. I may have written about it a long time ago, but it's so much better to be there and experiencing it in person.   (Note: I made the pictures tiny, because I worried about bandwidth.)       Welcome to the Boston Common. This is Boston's biggest park, and the trees were just starting to turn red and yellow. This is a late fall, but still fall nonetheless. And

Autumn Leaves

I understand that for some of us, autumn (or fall) has arrived.   I thought that this would be most relevant to the season. It was something a new-found friend in the Writing Club and I had thought of: we'll write the same topic, but we'll read each other's work and try to improve each other's style and errors that way.   I'm going to take it a step further: I want you to help me with that too.   So, without further ado... (and I hope you all can help me. I think an element is missing in the
