Ponies On Lego Cuusoo

Congratulations on all of the supporters! Great job on the concept pony figurines, it's clear you've captured the look and feel of My Little Pony as a potential LEGO model.

With the popularity of the new show, it's clear people would want a LEGO tribute. Of course if this reaches 10,000, we'd have to secure a license. Until then, best of luck on your journey to 10,000 supporters!

Please understand that this initial green light does not have an effect on the LEGO Review that will take place if the project reaches 10,000 supporters. Until then, we wish you the best of luck on your journey to 10,000 supporters!

Let's get this done, guys.

My Little Pony's owned by a rival toy company, though? And not really suited for system or technic at all?

...Can we please just keep the ponies out of Lego?

No.

LEGO produces things from stories that also have merchandise developed from what could be considered "rival" toy companies. I know that My Little Pony is something born of Hasbro itself, but it can't hurt to at least try.

@ Bambi: First of all, that's not a funny reaction, and never really has been. Second of all, yes, I am more than just vaguely irritated, and this is yet another annoyance on an already massive pile of them.

I mean, call me crazy, but I prefer to keep my fandoms separate from each other for the most part. I don't put Homestuck in my Team Fortress, I don't put Mass Effect in my Lego. I only enjoy crossovers when they're done well and, while Lego is a company made of very bright people, I see no way to handle this idea well at all.

@HH: My reservations there were the fact that Hasbro made MLP in the first place, and has their own construction block line already.

Listen sugarcube. We're not even sure if this will go through, and if it does nobody is forcing you to buy them. Just because you don't want to enjoy it doesn't mean we can't.

This is probably my pessimistic side coming out, but, if anything, I see Hasbro turning LEGO down so that they can do it with their own construction line.

Why pay somebody else for something you can do yourself and get full profits from? It'd probably be a smarter business move for Hasbro. It's unfortunate, but I can't hate them for it because that's just business sense.

Also, Bamb, please stop posting those kinds of pictures. What you're doing is borderline trolling and I don't feel like locking blog entries tonight over something petty.

1. Don't call me that. If you're trying to have a convincing argument, don't talk down to people like that. Helpful hypocritical tip.

2. It's not the set, should it ever exist, it's the principle of the matter. The few Cuusoo releases/approvals for America, as far as I know, are Minecraft and Sean of the Dead. Both licensed properties. I, for one, am not eager to see this tool turn into a "MAKE SET OF THIS THING I LOVE BCUZ U CAN." There's ver little new, original, or creative about taking an existing idea and making it in plastic.

3. Still not a funny joke there.

Shrug. There's an off-chance that it might inspire Hasbro to use their Kre-O line to do some pony stuff.

Anyway Bambi, I posted it on a blog I have that's stalked by a lot of popular MLP blogs, getting lots of good response and more votes already. :)

Dude seriously, take a chill pill. You don't have to like them, buy them, or pay any attention to them. Hasbro probably wouldn't agree, as HH pointed out.

Same.
Ditto!

Also, I'm siding with Bambi with this whole thing. If they do end up making this a reality, you really don't need to do anything about it. There's plenty of other lines that you could buy instead. Don't like it? Don't buy it!

this is absolutely hilarious to watch

the reaction from both sides is just ridiculous and entertaining

Yeah, I'm saying stupid stuff, but still..

actually what you're saying in text is accurate and agreeable, but I also have to agree with Xaeraz about all those reaction images.

Oh right

Well, that was the last of them anyways. I've got tons more, but not many for this situation or anything suitable for BZP.

I've already accepted nobody is going to share my view when the site is so saturated with bronies, so I'm done arguing, myself.

Admittedly, at this point I'd say something about respecting your opinion and wishing you luck, but I can't do that when I oppose the very thing I'd be wishing you luck on. So instead, I'll just respect your right to differing thoughts, and take my leave.

I think that you've somehow confounded saying that a thing should be made and doing nothing creative with saying a thing should be made and providing genuine ideas and working originally to avoid the pitfall of "TAKE THING MAKE Lego Bricks." By extension you've also made MOCing anything unoriginal, since most everything isn't plastic. (Of course, I kid here, since I know at least what you meant.)

Either way, people liking something and supporting a form of it isn't really something to get up at arms about. There's no reason to "keep fandoms separate" other than to stifle creativity for the goals of some bizarre purity of creation. There should be no lofty "principle of the matter" regarding something as simple as a licensed theme or crossover. Would you object to LEGO Star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter, or Spider-man? Of course not. This is the most bizarre fundamentalism that I've seen since a guy called Arabic "defective" for being an abjad.

As for whether LEGO could pull this off... two separate CUUSOO members (a small pool) have been able to work out feasible designs for MLP LEGO. I think a global corporation might be able to figure something out.

EDIT: Holy COW how long was I working on this post

I feel the same way about the oversaturation of Homestuck on pretty much every social networking/blogging site in existence as you (apparently) do about the oversaturation of MLP

but I deal with it.

when somebody is happily talking about something related to the fandom they enjoy, you don't comment essentially being all "I dislike your fandom so I hope this never happens"

you just don't.

if you did, I daresay I'd be doing that exact thing on pretty much every Homestuck-related post on that one blogging site we're both familiar with, and I'm not sure anyone would enjoy that.

Can I just say that sometimes it really sucks to spend a lot of time on the internet and like neither Homestuck nor MLP?

That said, I do wish original concepts on Cuusoo could get a little more attention, rather than be trampled (pun half-intended) by things like this and Lego Minecraft. I mean, if the support is there, then I'm not about to say it shouldn't be a possibility just because it's not original, but I think this sort of thing happening too much could lead to a general misinterpretation of Cuusoo's purpose.

Yeah, after looking around Cuusoo, I expected less fandom ideas than there are. =/ Was hoping for a good amount of original ideas that don't come from a story or licensed thing.

I'm personally all in favor of this idea. The designs of the ponyfigs are really good (although if it does get produced, I'm sure LEGO could make them better). And My Little Pony has plenty of unique locations which would make fantastic sets.

It's true, the licensing talks with Hasbro are gonna be a bear. What I'd give to sit in on those... But I don't think it's an impossibility. We don't know how much LEGO is willing to give if it means satisfying a Cuusoo proposal.

In regards to Cuusoo's unfortunate tendency to trend toward licenses, I don't think anything can really be done about that. Let's face it: hardly any proposals which lack the drive of an outside fanbase have done very well. And let us not forget the many benefits of licenses: they serve to introduce, or often reintroduce, outsiders to LEGO. This expands LEGO's customer base for their other products.
