Learning how to draw skeletons can be very helpful for figuring out proportions. It's simpler to visualize stuff when you can see clearly how the stuff underneath is structured. At least, that's what I've found. I wish you luck!

Proportions are pretty easy once you know at least one or two things for sure; everything is relative to everything else. If you know the proper shape of a torso, you can draw a neck and head that match it, draw out the arms properly (elbows around bellybutton level, hands end halfway down the thigh) and in relation to that you can draw the legs, and the rest is really just tweaking it until it looks right! You just need to learn a few easy to remember rules like the elbow thing and it all just sorta works out. Like farmstink buttlass said, drawing skeletons is very helpful! ^^

It's just a lot of practice practice practice! Good luck :)
