Lewa's Mask

Why.

Why did they ruin the Miru?

It looks so terrible. Literally no resemblance to any previous incarnation.

I have also been told that my opinion is 'stupid' because I think this. Excuse me, I am allowed to have an opinion on it.

Yeah - every other mask at least bears some resemblance to older masks that the Toa have worn. Lewa is the only exception... which is a shame, because it is a really cool mask. It just would have been better used for a brand new character.

Am I the only one who see a very clear resemblance ._. It's got the cheek gaps, faceplate effect, and separate jawline thing of the Mata version, and the side vents, forehead vent, established mouth area, eyeholes, triangular plane curving down for the middle (just flipped), and sweeping back of the Nuva version, and the detail evokes the Phantoka feel.

I really like Lewa's new mask. I'll concede that it is the most different from his classic mask out of the six new masks, but it retains the Miru's narrow eyes, angular jawline, dome-like shape, and playful grin, and in that respect I'd say it's much closer to the classic mask than any version of the Miru Nuva has been. I definitely think it suits him as a character.

I definitely appreciate that it fits closer to the face than the classic Miru, since that mask's eye holes scarcely lined up with Lewa's actual eyes from any angle except direct front view. It was a problem that became readily apparent to me when I was taking comparison photos for my review on The New Elementary.

...I had no idea the original Miru had such a large protruding part. That's kind of uncharacteristic of 2001 masks I believe, having something stick out so far...

Besides its lack of resemblance to the original, other aspects of it I hate are the unnecessary over-detailing of the face (I was so over with overdetailed masks by the end of the original run) and the fact that the air intakes really interrupt the silhouette of the mask, further decreasing its ability to resemble the Miru, and giving it a wonky shape in general. Easily the worst of the masks. (The best are probably Kopaka's and Onua's. They are easily recognizable as the original mask, even without being exact copies.)

Yeah, I had a similar reaction when I first saw it. Then I looked more closely. The resemblance to the 2001 miru is actually in there. You need to look past the border and focus on the center of the mask.

Is it different and more stylized than the others? Yes.

Am I personally going to let it bug me enough to keep me from liking the set? No.

(Actually it's kinda grown on me. XP)

I agree with Pomegranate. To me there is a very clear resemblance, at least to the Mata Miru.

This is only interrupted by the annoying mouth circle. That thing just does not belong. I am not happy about that.

That being said, since getting Lewa the mask has grown on me a lot. I can't wait to get the blended version in the summer. It's gonna look great.

(also, i think it looks way closer to the original miru than gali's does to the kaukau, though i don't mind that too much)
