OK, who's heard of U2? Greenday? Come on, surely you have. If you haven't...well perhaps you're lucky.
Different question now. Who's heard of The Skids? Yeah, I'm sure you haven't. If you have, you are lucky. I've mentioned them before, I don't remember why but I did.
OK, this is leading somewhere, so I'll get into it. You may remember that U2 and Greenday produced the single "The Saints are Coming" not that long ago. Well, it's not the original. The Scottish Punk band 'The Skids' did. In 1978. And that version is infinetly better than the U2/Greenday version.
Normally, I don't mind U2. If I'm bored, I'll listen to them no problems. I do despise Greenday, the tryhards. Mix the two together, and they wreck a great song.
Finally, who knows of Limewire? Who uses Limewire? Well, if you search for "the saints are coming", almost all the results will come up as the U2/Greenday version, except for one. That one is for The Skids. Course, if you refine your search to "the saints are coming skids" you'll get more Skids results. But it's not good enough.
What I'm saying is it's annoying when good songs produced many years ago are redone by another band(s) into a worse version that's no where near the quality of the original. And the young people of today believe that that bad version IS the original, because it's all they ever hear, and they don't pay attention to who it's creditted to or anything like that. That's not right.
I'm not blaming U2 or Greenday about this, except for making this atrocious single in the first place. That song should never have been meddled with, one of the best punk 'anthems' ever.
