2008 Video Faq

Many of you may have heard or read or even seen a video that popped up on Amazon.com and elsewhere recently that involved BIONICLE in general and summer 2008 in particular. So let me address some of the Q's you may have about it:

Q. What was it?

A. It was the first draft of what we call a "sell-in" video. That's a video we prepare to show buyers from dept. stores, Toys R Us, etc., to get them excited about BIONICLE for the year. It is not something shown to the public.

Q. So how did it get online?

A. Accidentally. We send electronic files of our TV commercials to Amazon to show on their site. Someone accidentally included the file of this video on the CD mailed to them.

Q. I noticed (fill in the blank) on the video -- does that mean ...?

A. This was a first cut -- it was not the final version of the video. Certain elements in the video shown on the web would have been cut from the final version, for reasons of time or because the content was no longer valid. So while there are certainly things in the video that would have been in the final version, not all of it is final and official.

Q. Now what?

A. Billund has taken steps to severely tighten up the process we use for these sell-in videos. They will not be stored in a totally separate area of the server and branded "Confidential" so this won't happen again.

Q. Can I still see it?

A. Amazon has taken the video down, and the other sites that had it up have either also done so or probably will have done so by the time you read this. As a reminder, BZP has banned any discussion of the video on this site.

I saw it and I must say it gave me chills(In a severely good way). Why would Lego not want to show these to the public as well as the retailers?

Because it contains Storyline Spoilers (Imagine we knew that Matoro died for sure before read Death of a Hero or Downfall). I'm going to work at one of those companies just to see these :P

It's simply not made for consumers -- it's made for buyers. Often these videos include things about pack ordering, things like that, which the average consumer doesn't need to see. And, as someone said, they often do encompass the whole year and so give away story.

Hmm. Although the video isn't around, I learned a little more about what Lego does to promote its products. Hope this is the last time that mistake is made. :)

I did see that vid, but it dosen't exactly reveal stuff about 08'. It just says 'It will be a good year' (Which it it)

I never saw the video and I'm glad. All I want to know is if we'll know the storyline content later this year since it had such major storyline spoilers.

I'm glad Greg cleared this up (mind you, he doesn't have to do this)

I didn't see the video, but some shots of something you've all seen. It's kinda feels like you're part of some secret club that knows something everybody else doesn't (if you've seen the video you know what I'm talking about)

Lhilertoro, then you obviously didn't watch close enough.

But anyway, I strongly encourage everyone around BZP N-O-T (!!!) to talk about the spoilers or post theories that base on these spoilers (or even taking that spoiler and claiming it is your theory, as some people already have). My bet is that those images will be shown again later this year when the CGI animations are out - since I guess that is where the final parts of the movie come from. Please do everyone that hasn't seen it yet a favor and keep everything for yourselves until TLC and Greg see it as appropriate to let the bomb go off and release those images.

Does this mean that the video sites(google video, and the "restricted" one") the video will be taken down? Cause its on there and I have even put it up. Could I be in trouble?

Well, i guess the S&T can be taken down till next year  I'm glad i didn't, yet wish i did see this video. Would of been nice to know the spoilers, but it would of been to spoiling... I'd say i'm happy to not of seen it :)

I have to strongly agree the NtM.

If I go through OGD or S6T I stumble across questions or theories that are definitely based on what the video revealed and it really makes me sick.

Guys, nobody had really thought about the things that were shown in this video before (which in turn shows how well the story team has done), and now I see like 2-3 questiosn in OGD per day asking Greg stuff in an ambiguous way ... I have respect for Greg answering these questions properly and as good as he can.

I don't know if I would do that if I was in his position.

So guys PLEASE(!!!) don't discuss the video or anything that you saw here, time will bring the info shown there anyway and it would really ruin the end of this chapter (entire 8 years!!!) of BIONICLE for so many other fans that want to discover these secrets as the year passes on.

Well enough said, ToK - and thanks for the support. And today I noticed with satisfaction that this video has disappeared from a certain video-sharing page. If you open the page now it says that it was removed by request of LEGO due to copyright issues.
