You are only doomed if you don't follow the rules and don't have teeth like mine. I'm getting them off next week, after only a year, and that's without following all the rules.

I actually get mine off in two weeks. So no worries, they aren't that bad. Plus, you get to pick awesome colors to put on them, so that's always cool.

As someone who is going to get braces, these posts do not make me feel better.

Maybe somehow your warnings about merciless pain will soothe Turakii instead. Maybe.

No worries, you are only semi-doomed.

Nah, you'll be fine. The best advice I can give is to follow the directions from you orthodontist, especially concerning what to eat. And be sure to brush and floss well.

Just a few warnings, never eat a whole apple or raw carrots right after you have your braces adjusted, namely with your front teeth. The pain of the times I tried to do so are still burned into my mind.

For the first few days after getting an adjustment, I recommend soft foods: steamed veggies, soup, etc. Beware of cold foods like ice cream though, your teeth might be sensitive to the cold for a few days.

I suppose the most important thing is not to be nervous, you'll get used to them, and they'll be out before you know it.

Yes, you are doooomed....For a week. and the day after you get them tightened take some Advil before you go.

Nah, they aren't much of a problem. True, they are annoying, but you get used to them quickly. And hey, I survived them - and I'm a wuss.

Oh, and I really wouldn't know about braces; although, I have heard that they are both painful and cause these strange dentist bills to appear in your mailbox charging exorbitant fees. What fun. =P

It's like every other person on this site has braces...

I don't but I might have to get them at some point.

My sis had them. She hated them. But don't worry 'bout it, 'cause that's what she did and it made it harder.

Get braces isn't too bad. Getting the glue off isn't enjoyable, and neither is tightening.
