A Tuff Decision

Kallista ~ Little light

As you know I had been having a tuff time with school this last semester; after praying a little and Talking with my mom I came to the conclusion that I should take a brake from my education for a while.

That said let me tell you a few reasons why I am.

If I had stayed on my educational schedule I would have Graduated AIV at the age of 20 and have a full fledged carrier in Animation.

Animation requires you to constantly sell yourself in ways of expression, energy, and creativity; highly competitive you always have to be the best and one mistake can completely destroy your future.

I don't think I will be able to handle that so young.

I need some more time to grow in becoming an adult and have more confidence in myself before I dive into the industry.

That said I also feel like I need to strengthen my relationship with God. I had neglected to study and spend time just listening to him in his still small voice, which is another reason why I broke down this last semester.

After seeking counsel from my parents we all agree this is the right thing for me to do right now.

Thank you all for being so supportive of me and caring for me when I broke down.

I love you guys

I think taking a break is a good idea. It can be useful for a mass creative recharge, since you are also spending time with a creator (aka God). Even though you're taking a break, keep drawing and drawing. Cuz then you keep learning more new things.

The animation section is indeed competitive (and so are many art-related jobs), but if you start learning to socialize with people and connect with them, it becomes easier to ease into the industry. And it's best to try work in a small company before heading to the big ones like Pixar, Nick, or ILM.

Heck, I'm really, really shy as well in real life, but I try and learn and ask questions if there's a need.

And going to conferences and conventions also helps in the long run as well. :]

It also doesn't hurt to fall back on another study instead of art (like English, Comp Sci (hehe), Chemistry, etc.). It prevents people from burning out.

So, if you need any art tips/advice, I'm here to point out a few art sites. :]

I would say that you've made a good decision, Ranna.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you are in this area. I'm not as close as I should be the God, and I have been suffering the consequences, like more emotional stress, difficulty to keep a good schedual, and lack of motivation. I would say that it is a very wise thing to do to take a break and find Him again.

I'll be praying, Ranna, and I truly wish you the best. :)

Now I understand why you were upset the last time, I know how you feel.

At the moment I am struggling with many of the same things. One being that I should be closer to God than I am.

I believe you made a good decision, Lady R. B)

BD and Omi summed up a lot of what I was thinking-- but really, that's a very good idea. Some people may not like the sound of you taking a break from education... but sometimes it's good just to settle back and try some new things. Go do some traveling, take some time with your family and God. That will also give you some years to prepare for life and will help you mature for the competition of the animation/art life.

It's a great idea and I'm praying for you. :)

A gap year, or jut a sort of indeterminant leave?

An indeterminate leave. I'm going to get a job either as a Barista in a coffee shop or a retail sales person in a clothing shop.

Those are the aria's I am targeting for handing in my resume.
