1) I guess mutagen/mutations are more common in the Bionicle universe than in our world, where they're once in a blue moon.

2) Maybe. Remember, both the Matoran world and Mara Magna's cataclysms occurred 100,000 years ago, wheras we have no idea when the Shattering might have occurred. I wonder... did Mata Nui's falling possibly trigger the cataclysm on Bara Magna? Perhaps through some kind of wireless link? Something to think about.

Hmm...*frowns* Mata Nui has something to do with Bara Magna, for sure--perhaps the giant pieces are a representation of something?
