Two Pieces Of News

Two fun things that happened this week --

1) AMEET sent me author's copies of the English-language version of the Makuta Guide to the Universe. Hardcover and printed on glossy paper, this blows away every BIONICLE book ever done in terms of the quality of the publication. They did a spectacular job and I am very proud to have my name on this.

2) I got to see about three minutes of finished animation for the 2009 movie yesterday. It was a big action sequence. With all due respect to the folks who made the first three movies, this makes MOL, LOMN, and WOS look they were done by kids with fingerpaint. The animation is crisp, detailed, fluid, the action is fast-paced and exciting (actual explosions and everything :)), and everyone at LEGO who has seen it is really excited. And this wasn't even the BIG action from the end of the picture, this was simply an early sequence from the first third of the movie.

Does that mean there's going to be an American release of the Makuta's Guide?

Also, you've made me even more excited for the movie!

You and your tantalizing, Greg. :P I really can't wait for the movie. Any news on the composer? Also, when is the first Chapter Book supposed to be out? My Girlfriend and I really want to know.

AZ Blue - I believe the first chapter book is in stores in June.

As for the Makuta Guide, I think -- not sure -- they are doing an English language version for publication in the UK. I have to check on that. I know the book is doing well and they are translating it into some other languages as well. However, it will not be available in the US, AMEET does not have US book rights for BIONICLE, Scholastic does.

So, does the animation ressemble more the CGI commercials, the other movies, or a mix of the two?

It sounds great. Hope to hear more about it soon!

I think my heart just skipped a beat.

Also, I'm really excited for the movie now. I mean really, REALLY excited. It's bound towin some awards for its graphics, too. If the first three Bionicle movies could win them, then this one's bound to.

I agree about the quality of the Ameet material, it's very good. The licensing department has had me do reviews of some of their books, and I'm impressed with what they've done.

Greg got to see actual animation? Cool. All Ive seen are some animatics. Guess I'll have to bug somebody to get access... :)

I think the only thing that would make this movie better would be if it came out in June so I could have it to look forward to right after finals...

For someone who thought the animation in those movies is what detracted from them, that's very gratifying to hear.

You just have to tease us like that, don't you? :P

So what makes this Makuta Guide to the Universe such good quality then, just out of interest? Shiny cover? Incredible CGI? Amazing colours?

Wow, very excited about the movie! Wish I could see that three minute clip too...And if what you say is true about it beating the previous three into the ground, I must say, it is hard to imagine and I hope to see some footage soon as well!

Yes, watching the old BIONICLE movies (especially Mask of Light) these days can be somewhat painful :P I'm very glad to hear that animation is being brought to a new level for the series, and with your writing the script I'm sure it will be a great movie.
