What Sort Of Guy Do You Think I Am?

The kind that has lots of sorting to do, that's what sort.

I'm finally trying to get my LEGO collection organized. I've taken apart a bunch of old, stored sets that have been jostled into oblivion, and gotten all my bricks together from my various travels. Now it's time to sort them so I can create something for BrickFest.

The only problem is, I have about 250 pounds of brick to sort through and put in the right spot. It's gonna take a while.

(Excuse the grainy cell phone camera picture. I'm too lazy to break out the real camera.)

That's eight - count 'em, 8 - big tubs full of plastic. Oy.

I really wanted to get some building done for BrickFest... going to BrickCon in Seattle last October inspired me. But I just don't know if I'll have the time to sort AND build before then. Especially since I'll be doing a couple weeks of travel in March. But I'm gonna try.

Before you ask - no, I don't need anyone to take it off my hands for me. But thanks just the same. :)

Oi. I have a really big bin to sort out too, and I still keep all of my Orange, Brown, Gold, and Biege bricks in one container. It's a mess.

Remember when you posted that picture in LGD with your bin on the floor with pieces everywhere? Yeah that was hilarious.

Try not to repeat history. :P

Sort half and then build with whatever you sorted?

Good luck, to wish you the least.

I'll probably do something like that. I usually do a multi-level sort. First, all brick (no matter the size or color0 goes into one bucket; all TECHNIC into another; all BIONICLE into another; all slopes into another; all house-related (windows, doors, greenery, etc.) goes into another; all tiles into another; all plates into another; and so on. Then I'll dive through each of those to sort at a lower level, by size and maybe color.

A first-level sort should give me enough control to be able to start building.

Good luck! It's quite hard sorting pieces.

Well, bink, what I do is spill it out one box at a time, and go through every piece making a pile for every color, then I put each color in it's own box or drawer for later use. In all honesty, I can't even begin to empathize with you-I only have about one and a half of your tub's worth in bionicle pieces, so the sorting wasn't all that tricky, but you could still try it, I s'pose.

Oh, and thank you for showing us that adults can still have huge LEGO collections. It makes me feel not so... strange.(though, I am a little off in person)

You sure you don't need some taken off of your hands? 'Cuz I'd be willing to take a bin or two. :P

Good luck sorting 'em, Bink. And don't feel bad. I'm still working on my entry(ies) for BrickFest.

If I could, I'd go and help you for FREE. Yes, I enjoy sorting lego bricks that much - and besides, it would give me a chance to meet one of the most awesome people on BZPower. :)
