Oh Dear. I've Started A Fad.

Check BIONICLE Artwork I if you dare.

PLEASE, people. The caption to my Gelu drawing was meant to be a harmless lolcats reference. It was NOT meant to spawn a fad of sloppy edits and disgusting drawings focused on the BIONICLE fast food industry.

In all honesty, it would be best if this stopped now. My drawing was popular enough, but I am beginning to regret ever bringing my art back to BZPower. The dignity of the BIONICLE Artwork I forum is falling into question, and I'm ashamed that my well-intentioned art spawned this creative train wreck.

Just more proof that someone can't do something original on BZP without it suddenly becoming unoriginal.

If some well-known BZPer jumped off a cliff, I wonder how many other members would start jumping off cliffs because it's the latest fad?

I dunno, Laughin'Man, I'll jump off with a parachute and find out. Probably not as many as you'd think.

Anyway Aanchir, don't tell people to stop making art simply because you think you made a fad. The art in question may not be good, but the people there might not HAVE the same skills as you do. They are still simply expressing their ideas when it comes to a joke. So what if you made the term? I hardly call it making the fad. You did NOT make that fad, you inspired it.

Welcome to BZPower, finally. You learn that the community sees and likes what we make, then they go and make their own stuff. That's called "sharing." Plus, I'm betting you had no indication of a follow-up, so it was their job to do so. Now the only thing you "could" do at this point is a follow-up and draw your OWN Thornaxburger and McThornax. THAT will save Art 1, if you would simply draw more quality work for them, not posting blog entries telling them to stop drawing period. -Swert

I'm not saying they should stop making art. I'm saying that they should stop making sub-par art just to be "cool". They could very easily make better thought-out art, even edits, if they actually made it with the intention of creating a meaningful picture.

I also never said I made the fad. I said I started it. If you'd prefer another term, there are several. "Initiated", "Provoked," "Instigated"... take your pic. My drawing was the impetus, and I neither claim credit for making this into a fad nor for coming up with the actual idea which would be reimagined in so many ways.

And why was it their "job" to follow the art up? You're correct, I had no intention of a follow up. But the overall idea was just to take an arbitrary Bara Magna food item-- the Thornax-- and throw it into a LOLcats reference. I didn't even put any thought into what a Thornaxburger was, how it was prepared, or what it looked like.

And I have no doubt that some of the people making this art have the skills to do better. They're merely rushing this art to "catch the wave", and thus flooding Art I with hasty edits that exist not for any visual appeal but rather for the sake of verbal jokes (save for the original Thornaxburger drawing, which to be fair had work put into it for the actual purpose of showing what the item looked like).

Fads like this flood the Comedies forum all the time, and that is where they belong-- not in the Art I forum, where their visual aspects are only an excuse to get them hosted where they'll get the most attention.

Okay, job is not the right word, no. But it is their right. Just as it is your right to post art, it's their right to post it as well.

And as for the whole "Let's make art and catch the Thornaxburger wave" theory, I disagree.

And finally, since you didn't "create" or "start" the fad, I disagree with you having any say in it, then. That is all.

I'm soooooo tempted to make one. :P

You won't believe how much I am. But alas, I'm unsure if such a move would encourage this fad, which frustrates me. But I do have ideas...

Drat, maybe I should make one. My idea is at least BIONICLE related, rather than "draw your best food item on MSPaint and slap a 5-second picture of a Thornax on the label so you can say it's BIONICLE-related".

And again, Swert, I said I didn't create it, but I said I did start it. Unless, of course, you're oblivious to why the first one was even created, in which case I don't know why you're debating this. I don't see why I'm fighting over this when I'd gladly just reject any affiliations to it, but it seems you're intent on calling every thing I say about this issue pure bunk. I understand what a fad is like, and I understand how one works. I've seen them in Art I before, too, with much more effort and purpose. But this one just seems like an excuse for people to make a new topic for every scarcely-BIONICLE-related artwork they can cook up with a few minutes of hurried MSPainting.

No, I didn't mind the first Thornaxburger artwork that popped up. At least you could see a Thornax in there, even if its grotesqueness made you do a double-take. But it's become more of "make as much fast food as you can using the same almost-funny, almost-BIONICLE brand name". It's tiresome, and I don't want the Art I forum to become the McDonald's Dollar Menu unless people will slow down and put some more thought and effort into this.
