Intelligence

Boogie Monsta

It's sad when you can drive through a parking lot with thousands of cars and people, and you're the only one blasting classic rock through your open windows. Everyone else is rapping.

Seriously.

I guess I should've known, it being a community college and all.. That's where they send those of lower intelligence.

Me? I'm just here for high school. Shut up.

Memoria.

Classic/Soft/Light Rock is my absolute favorite genre.

There can be no musical respect for rap or death metal because they aren't music. There's not even any tune to hum. Once is just a bunch of screaming (which, I mean, why would you want to pay money for something you can do yourself?) and the other is just full of cussing, inuendo, and killing cops, which, once again, doesn't even have a tune.

Sorry, but that's just the way I see it. =/

They're as much music as any other genre. >>

Also, that's a total stereotype of rap. Some rap is like that, but much rap is not.

And same with Death. I can hum both Lamb of God AND Black Dahlia Murder songs, tyvm. And I like the lyrics.

XP Takuma's right on that account. No AC/DC or Van Halen style classic rock have anywhere near as much blatant sexual stuff as some rap does.

Clearly you have never listened to any AC/DC or Van Halen. You need to listen to Big Balls and Hot for Teacher. And not all rap is blatant sexual stuff. They're actually pretty much dead even.

That's one thing that's not even objective. I've heard both of those (heck, I own almost all the AC/DC albums). Never do they explicitly chronicle sexual assault or other things not to be mentioned on BZP. I guess you're putting gangsta rap in a different genre.

I don't know where you're coming from when you say that rap explicitly chronicles sexual assault. Sexual themes? Without a doubt. Rock has just as many sexual themes as rap. And that's not to say that all rap is about is sexual themes just as rock isn't all about booze and drugs. There are plenty of rap songs out there that deal with themes that are not sexual.

I also do believe you are getting your genres mixed up. Just as there are many types of rock and roll, so there are many types of rap. Gangsta rap is pretty much dead, and has been dead since late 90's. Notable gangsta rap's most notable artists include N.W.A, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg from just off the top of my head. Although there are a few gangsta rappers left today, there aren't that many notable ones and pretty much everyone considers the genre dead.

You're right that gangsta rap is dead, but so is classic rock XP. I know people like AC/DC have come back ~recently, but it's not quite the same..

And I offer Eminem's Crack A Bottle as evidence that classic rock has never gone as far as rap. Half of his new album is the same way. And I know cuz I looked it up.

You can't just look at one album and then judge the rest of the genre by it. Furthermore, rap hasn't been around nearly as long as rock. You can't make that comparison because we have yet to see the full potential of rap.
