New Thoughts: 2Ḍ Vs 3Ḍ

Just saw A Christmas Carol (the latest movie, by Disney) in 2D (because all the theaters are using their digital projectors for Avatar in 3D) today with my siblings (for free).

This was the first movie I saw in 2D that was for 3D. (Well, I saw Up again a few months ago without 3D-ness, but after my first viewing I decided it would have been fine in 2D. This movie, however, looked like it would have been especially cool in 3D.)

Aside from a few opening scenes, though, I felt it was fine in 2D. Thinking back, I bet there were a lot of parts that would have been cool to see in 3D, like the Ghost of Christmas Future's horse chase scene, but in general I did not mind.

So I still stand that movies like Monsters vs Aliens and Up were nice to see in 3D, but it was not necessary.

(But then there's Avatar, which is supposed to be revolutionary, but I guess I'll find out when I see it. But for now the focus of discussion is not on that, but the basic 3D movies.)

That's what I like about 3-D films these days: nowadays, movies use it to enhance the experience, not as a necessary factor in enjoying the film. When I watched Bolt, I didn't even know that it was in 3-D before I got to the theater. It's a far cry from the 3-D films I've known from childhood, which usually seemed from advertising to be gimmicky features that can't sell themselves without a big ol' "3-D!" after the title.

I've never seen a 3D movie. >_>

Nobody has really seen a 3D movie, if you think about it. Our brains are just fooled into processing two 2D images as one 3D image.

I saw a Christmas carol too, in 2D. I admit, some of those scenes would have looked GREAT in 3D. but in 2D, all they did was drag out the movie.
