Don't shoot, because I'm made of rock and I bite hard.

But...

The only part about Avatar that I thought was amazing was the imagery, which was enhanced by the newly-released 'real 3D' style of movie and IMAX capabilities. Their animation, as well, was well done.

But the plot left me wanting more. Sure, most movie plots are pretty pathetic--usually only the combination of one or two archetypes to create what they want--and this one was a step above that (but only a step). Maybe four or five different regularly-used plot combinations instead of one or two, but it was still recycled and pushed an agenda. That part set me off.

It was a fantastic movie to see if you're watching to be immersed in science fiction, but not if you wanted something deep and new to experience in the plot.

That's my opinion. :P

I honestly don't see what people's problems with the plot are. It seems to me that people are just trying to find something to complain about.

Sure, most movie plots are pretty pathetic

if you really thing that, then you really shouldn't be watching most movies.

Not if you watch movies for anything other than the plot.

Kiotu- Shoot away at our Rocky friend here. :P

Rock- I think you really must have come in expecting way too much from the plot. Sure it wasn't the greatest or most dramatic thing out there, but did anyone think it would be? If we're comparing it to other technological leaps in filmmaking, then StarWars also has very simplistic plot that is chock full of archetypes. But StarWars became much more complex as it was added to, bit by bit.

Avatar is new, and doesn't have the strength of a series to back it up. They couldn't have come in with an overly deep plot at first because it would have detracted from the goal, which was to introduce this new universe. If, overtime, sequels are made and such, there will already be a fanbase that is already inundated with the world. Then Cameron will be much more free.

And if you think about it, it really was a good plot. Yes, it was cliche in many many aspects, but cliches are cliches because they work well. Cliches are ideas that are so good, that everyone feels like they should use them. That's all they are.

Swil- He's not trying to find something to complain about, he just didn't enjoy the plot.

Wrack- Or he just hasn't chosen movies that have really deep plots.

Avatar blew my mind countless times throughout the viewing.

I. LEFT. CHANGED.

Personally, I thought the plot was fine. Sure, it was a little cliche. Sure, it was pretty predictable. But I didn't notice any of that until after t was over. During the movie I was too busy having my MIND BLOWN.

Amazing movie.

Okay, so the plot wasn't amazing, but it was believable, which is more important to me. :P

True dat. But it was still epic enough for me to put on my "Movies I must get when they become DVDs" list (which is very short, I might add) :P
