Bionicle: Year One - Characters, Levels, And Bosses

Sumiki

In B:Y1, levels will be accessed via the Kini-Nui menu. Each Toa will have separate levels, though the levels are somewhat like short episodes. Each will include Rahi enemies, and if it's viable, a boss-Rahi at the end.

Each Toa will have separate powers to start with. These include elemental powers (these do basically the same thing, though the effects are different) and their mask powers. Starting with one mask (their primary mask), they will gain more powers as they go through levels and find the masks hidden in those levels. Noble Masks will be hidden as well.

Each Toa has a "special ability", which will be accessed by pressing the same button for each character. There should be a limit on how much a Toa can use these - after all, we don't want them abused.

Master of Shadow Matoran has kindly supplied a WIP list. My notes are bracketed and bolded.

TAHU: Can walk on lava, and loses his Life Energy half as fast as the other characters. [i think surfing on lava might be better.]

KOPAKA: When he hits an enemy that isn't a boss, the enemy is stunned/frozen for three-to-five seconds.

LEWA: Can double-jump.

GALI: Can swim, and therefore cross water. [We probably should have this ability for anyone with a Kaukau, 'cept Pohatu. :P]

POHATU: Can go into a PowerRun-mode, which gives him the ability to escape from an enemy quickly.

ONUA: Can use his claws to smash or lift pieces of the environment.

If possible, it will automatically save progress at the end of each episode.

Really? Always think Pohatu should be slow. Unfortunatly now poHatu is now OPer then the rest. I suggest lower his agility and Hp.

That sounds fine. :shrugs:

Also, wouldn´t this go under the 'Powers'-entry?

Yes, discussion should continue in Powers.

I think everyone should start out with the same amount of health, but change it so they lose it at different speeds.

Actually, if u count the skill points, all Toa has 16 points altogether, making all Toa balanced. However now Pohatu has 20 skill points already.

Yes, I noticed. :)

@Sumiki: I´d say that too, but I believe that´s how it was always planned. With the points just showing the amount of damage it takes to lose Health.

A changed Pohatu for balance:

Pohatu:

Attack: 3

Hitpoint: 3

Defense: 3

Speed:5

Agility: 2

How's this?

And some little Rahi minions that should appear in many levels:

Lava Region/Ta-Koro:

Hoi Bugs:

Attack: 0.5 or 1

defense: 0

hitpoint: 1

speed: 3

agility: 4

Lava Eels

Attack: 3

defense: 2

hitpoint: 2

speed: 3

agility: 2

special: gives heat if making contract to Toa, burning the Toa. Tahu loses lesser hp comparing to the others.

Lava Rat:

Attack: 2

defense: 1

hitpoint: 1

speed: 4

agility: 4

special: same as Lava Eel

Fireflyer

Attack: 0.5

defense: 1

hitpoint: 1

speed: 4

agility:1

special: unlike other rahi fireflyer will only attack if the Toa is too closed to them.

Seems okay to me, that does. There´s no such thing as Hoi bugs, though - it´s either Hoto Bugs or Hoi Turtles. ;)

Sumiki:

Please view the two videos in this topic called 'Celebration' and 'Manas Fight'. Then tell me, once again, that a Bohrok cannot appear in a canon Bionicle game for 2001. :D

...Gotcha! :P

LOL, gotta love Turaga Nuju dancin' around in the last one. :P

Also, that's not much of a cameo of a Bohrok, and I believe I did mention that one would be seen at the end to set up the next game.

Excuses, excuses. :P

The one about the Manas Fight was before the end, and they even almost touched it. How about we take that Bohrok in the game, then?

Hey Sumiki, do you have your ideas for the levels finallized yet? 'Cause I'm pretty good at designing (not visually, I mean in layout and how they play) levels for video games.

- RC Niner

Would this not be easier if we made a system for the levels, so we could easily edit them in, say, MSPaint. We would make each level as a 'sketchout' on this program, using a line of pre-considered symbols (Blue dot=Player Start Position, Red square=Hoto Bug)? Then we´d end up with one 'sketchout'-picture per level.

I see that we have a motion to that effect. All in favor, say "I"!

*chorus of "I"s*

All opposed?

*cricket chirps*

Motion carried.

I second that idea.

Then we´d simply have to make each element, make a symbol for each element, and get editing. ;)

We could use colours to show what level of height this area is in? How about that? Dark green=high, Light green=low. Water could be blue, deep water dark blue. Lava could be brightly red.

However we need more Rahi to make their symbols.

Desert: tan

Mountain: Coffee

Tunnel: Black

Ice: White

We shall use circles for Toa and x for enemies. A big X will be the boss of the level.

Indeed. We also need symbol for each Turaga, a symbol for Matoran Villagers, and symbols for various interactive objects (say, anything that can be moved with a Matatu, for one thing).

Also, about the Paint designs for the levels - we'll also include text notes about who's where, what they say, that sort of thing.

My suggestions are:

Lewa can double jump and swing across vines to reach some otherwise inaccessible objects/ places.

Gali can swim faster and for longer under water.

:)

Maybe players should be required to get the Great Kanohi, because they are needed to overcome obstacles,

EG:

Pakari - There are certain barriers which only a Pakari can destroy.

Kaukau - Player can breathe underwater, allowing access to underwater tunnels/caves leading to new areas.

Miru - Allows player to traverse larger gaps/reach higher platforms.

You get the picture.

But the Noble masks are optional, they aren't needed and are more hidden, but are helpful.

That's my suggestion for masks.

And breathing underwater shouldn't be Gali's ability, maybe some sort of healing power?

Onua's should be that he can dig underground, appearing as a cartoonish mound of earth and sneak past enemies for a short while.

Giving only Lewa the ability to double-jump doesn't make much sense IMO, his ability could be swinging on vines? Idk about him...

And for Pohatu, maybe he could have a super-kick move or something, fast running is the Kakama, not him. :P

maybe as a bonus levels only unlocked by, say, finding all 15 colectable light stones or something like that there could be

one level (where every character ends up going) and that level has tons of "easter eggs" for each toa but is timed and so you have to find all of these light stones and every time you find 15 light stones you gain access to this bonus level.

it would be accesable to every toa but only by finding a certain amount of some arbitrary object or "collectable" and would give you bonus points.

say its a cavern. in this cavern there are walls that only onua can bust through. an under-ground lake that can only be explored by Gali. a sea of lava that only tahu can pass to get to the other side, etc. and these obstacles that only certain characters can pass are a "gateway" to some simple puzzles that can give you extra points. but the whole level is timed and also huge as everytime you go there with any character there is something new to do.
