Is The Thumb A Finger?

Opinions. Now. :P

Okay, here's my opinion. I think the thumb is a finger. It has the same amount of joints (yes, it has three, one near the wrist), it looks the same as a finger, functions the same (it's just a finger on the side of your hand), is a digit from the same location, so therefore, IMO, it is a finger.

I don't think so, though most people think it is. It's seperate from the four fingers of your hand, and it moves on its own, also seperate from the fingers.

Just my opinion.

Is a thumb a finger but not all fingers are thumbs? Or could you just call them all digits?

Gives new meaning to the phrase, "I can count to ten on my fingers." You'd have to be a ten finger, two thumb mutant then! :o

no, Lhik, it's like this:

a thumb is a nasal hygiene device

all nasal hygiene devices are fingers

therefore, all thumbs are fingers

get you syllogism structure right.

That means tissue boxes have about 100 fingers.

That's a little much, isn't it? :P

The comments made me laugh.

I think it's not. There are structures similar to thumbs, on dinosaur skeletons, near the heel of the foot. They're stabilizers or something. And I think raptors stab stuff with 'em. Or they stab the ground. I have very little knowledge of dinosaurs.

Also, bats have fingers that spread their wings, and they have thumbs that are different, they use 'em to...I don't know what they use them for.

I'm realizing how little I know about the anatomy of animals. XD
