Cue the outcries of "BIONICLE doesn't have to have human proportions!"

In Life Drawing we learned to draw with a figured divided into eight heads, so essentially it was only eight heads tall. While it might not apply to Bionicle proportions entirely it is a good base to start off of if you’re drawing. For instance, a man’s shoulders are generally two heads wide and his hips are one and a half heads wide. Women’s shoulders are one and a half heads wide and their hips can be the same or two heads wide. Although those technically details don’t really apply they’re still helpful to know.

If one wants to get technical, no Mata-Nui era female Bionicle would have a larger chest. Breasts are kinda there for humans because they're required for raising young, as with all other mammals. But I'm pretty sure Bionicles aren't mammals, and all the Mata-Nui beings were created fully grown and aware. As such, it makes no logical sense why female, say, Toa or Matoran would have breasts. Same with Roodaka, but the specifics of how Sikiral or whatever race Roodaka was were created/born, so I digress.

Right, but the thing is, artists and MOCists keep insisting on giving their female characters breasts, so if they plan to do that, then they should as least try to make them actually look like breasts. Rather than watermelons stapled to the poor woman's trachea.

also I will admit I am guilty of making bad female MOCs

I must admit, I always depict females as having hips about half the size of their shoulders, though I am terrible with breasts, so I generally don't use them. :shrug:

Hips and waist are in two different areas, mate.

The hips are in the pelvic region, in which the pelvic bone is slightly wider (not bigger) than the rib cage. The waist is the conjoining area between the rib cage and the pelvis. Having a small waist is okay, but narrower hips than the thorax makes a woman a man with boobs.

It must also be said that breasts do not sprout from the shoulders, either.

For women MOC's once I put Nuva shoulder armor in nuva chest armor. Looks pretty good when it's done. I think I might make a female MOC.

This isn't actually a good idea. Nuva shoulder armour, no matter what way you put it, looks horribly unnatural and/or exaggerated. The whole point of this entry is to explain how female bodies are in reality, which is different from the way they're usually built around here. Nuva shoulder armour flies right in the face of that.

On a serious note, this is good tips for Artists. I know I for one have had trouble in the past with....this sort of.....problem.

@ Point 2: But you can't see that clearly when they're wearing clothes. That's only needed when... Y'know... They're huge. Or nude. But the latter shouldn't be seen on BZP.

Just thought I'd point out that, for the Bionicle MOCing group, number two can, logically, be ignored with the excuse of armor.

Unless you do something stupid, like make it bulge out in the middle.
