Professional baseball player. :)

I wanna be Commissioner of Baseball if anyone cares. :D

Who's gonna be in the World Series? I say Phils and Rays, but I want to see Padres and Twins.

@Aho: OH DEAR GOD YES THAT'S WHY I'M TELLING EVERYONE TO GET AWAY (not really though lol)

@Depeche: Sure, why not.

@LewaLew: At the rate it's going, I'm going to have to go with Phillies and Rays. The Yankees are sliding thanks to the Red Sox (I was the end of that game on ESPN last night), and the Padres look like they're out of it too, even though they're still in the hunt. It's going to be up to the Rays to knock off the Twins, which can happen if they win the home-field advantage race.

Yeah, the Sox handed the Yanks that game. The pitcher they had on the mound reminded me about Carlos Marmol before he became the Cubs closer. Marmol is dependable now. The Red Sox pitcher wasn't. Fortunately, though, the Rays are still in first by 1/2 a game.

It's possible that both he and Manny Ramirez will be out of work next season. I actually kind of hope that happens to Manny. I think he's a selfish player.

Papelbon may get a minor league contract. Manny probably won't have a job unless he takes a big pay cut and unless some team lacks the sense necessary to realize that Manny isn't worth the trouble.

Who's your pick for AL Cy Young? If I could vote, I'd say King Felix, cuz he's best in all but Wins-Losses, which is almost completely due to the underachievement of the rest of his team. However, I think David Price will win it, because he has the better W-L record, and better in all the other categories than C.C., who is the other favorite.

I'd like King Felix to win it - that would signal a departure from the win-loss record that is so archaic.

Realistically, it'll come down to the wire between C.C. and Price. I think it'll depend on who wins the AL East.

Yeah, Cy Young, MVP, and ROY winners often need help from their teams to get attention. That's why I say Starlin Castro has no chance for NL ROY, aside from the fact that Buster Posey is doing awesome and that Jason Heyward had so much hype through the whole year that he may win even though his stats are not as good as Castro's and Posey's.

Speaking of NL ROY, that shall be my next question. Who's your pick? As mentioned above, mine is Posey.

I think that all three of them have a good chance - Castro should get more attention. I know my mom would pick Posey - every time she hears his name she mentions how it's such a great name. :P

I'll go with Posey too, though Heyward has a chance if Atlanta gets into the postseason.

Yeah, MLB Network was kind of making fun of him once, calling him the "baby-faced assassin" because of his name and the way he looks. :P And because he assassinates baseballs.

Next question--once again MLB Awards related because this is fun--AL and NL MVP. I haven't paid much attention to the AL, but I'd say Josh Hamilton. Bautista might--anyone with 52 HR, and possibly more by the end of the season, as well as in the top three for RBI, should always have a terrific shot, although his average isn't good. Cabrera probably should win, but the Tigers aren't going to the playoffs this year, so I don't think they'll pick him. Hamilton is my pick because he's got that tremendous .361 average, and because he's the only candidate outside of Cano that's on a playoff team. Cano also has a good shot too, maybe even more than Hamilton just because Cano plays for the Yankees.

In the NL, my vote would go to CarGo. One of the three triple crown candidates (although he's going to have to start hitting homers like Tulo has in September if he is to do the impossible and be the first Triple Crown winner in over 40 years) and he leads in two of the categories that matter the most to me--RBI and AVG. Pujols, meanwhile, is going to miss the playoffs. Votto has a good shot too, as the third Triple Crown candidate through most of the year (although he has no shot now) plus, the Reds will be in the playoffs and Votto doesn't have the advantage of Coors Field (although I think people don't give Carlos Gonzalez enough credit for what he's done just because he plays half his games in Coors).

So, who's your NL and AL MVPs?

Hamilton's two fractured ribs down the stretch really gives Cano a shot. Bautista might hit a lot of home runs, but it's hard to win an MVP award when you're not in the race - unless you're Andre Dawson for the Cubs in the late 80's.

CarGo and Votto are neck-and-neck. I think it might go to CarGo even if the Rockies miss the playoffs, because he's been so good.

Next question--Who's your pick for NL Cy Young? Mine is Roy Halladay. He's playing for the best team in the NL right now, has 20 wins, and is the most consistent of all the Cy Young contenders. I was originally going for Ubaldo Jimenez at the All-Star break, but he's really tapered off.

Link to comment

I don't think there's much of a race here - there's Halladay and then everyone else. He's been consistently brilliant in a season where all of the other candidates went up and down.

(I'm betting the next question is Manager of the Year, lol)

Link to comment

That, and AL ROY, since there's not much any answer other than Neftali Feliz for AL ROY, IMO.

As for manager of the year, in the NL, I think that Charlie Manuel has a shot just cuz the Phils have the best record, but Dusty Baker does as well for bringing the Reds to their first playoff berth in years. In the AL, my pick is Ron Gardenhire of the Twins.

I wouldn't be all that surprised if Buck Showalter got AL MOY - he actually got the O's a winning month for the first time since the mid-'90s. :P
