We're reading that rite now in English. It wouldn't be half as bad if I understood what half of those words were :rollseyes:

We did this back in Grade 7 for the Culture-side of Latin during the second half. Pretty awesome poem; in fact, it's epic. :P

 

Except things do seem to drag on for a while towards the middle, going from island to island, with not much plot progression.

Ziko--Yeah, that's what the word I'd use to describe it. :P

 

Aderia--I mean, I understand it, I just have to stop and process after every single stanza. Slows down my reading drastically, and in general kills the experience, frankly. And makes my innards explode.

You should try it in Latin. Because it's not a word-order based language, with a grammatical structure that's been left out of English for ages, you really need to think about what the sentence means. It's okay if you can translate quickly (instantly), but if you're not really able to (everyone), it completely ruins it. There's no flow, despite the poetry. You're constantly interrupted by new words, and stumped by idioms and by constant changes in structure. :P
