YES! >=D

Well, not really. If you pay attention to the rules and stuff, you shouldn't have them on for very long. I only had mine on for a year and a half. :)

Oh noes!

You know, in my experience, overzealous orthodontists and dentists are in no short supply. They're so fussy. Like, oh my gosh, how did mankind survive with normal teeth for thousands of years until you came around. >.>

That's what I keep saying. XD

1. Be prepared to eat nothing but soup and applesauce for at least a week afterwards from every appointment.

2. Resist the temptation to bite the orthodontist's fingers.

3. Beware of the Jabberwock.

It's not that bad, in fact, when I had to get mine off this past April, I missed them for a while.

But hey, then you get to have a retainer to use for like ever! lol

But really, they're not bad at all once you get used to them. :)

The first time that you get them on, it hurts pretty bad to eat, and maybe a little even if you aren't, but after that you're pretty used to it.

The worst part to me was when they had to get your teeth impressions. <_<

The only thing that actually kinda hurt a more than everything else was getting them off... lol

I guess I could make the pain out to be super bad, so then you expect worse than what it will be so it won't be as bad...but too late for that. :P

Good luck! :D

Yup. I got mine about a month ago. They hurt like heck the first week, then it's fine, but then when you go to get them tightened [i just did yesterday] I'm not sure . . . they still hurt, but not nearly as bad as the first time.

BEWARE!!

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Long time the manxome foe he sought --

So rested he by the Tumtum tree,

And stood awhile in thought

And as in uffish thought he stood,

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,

And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through

The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

He left it dead, and with its head

He went galumphing back.

"And has thou slain the Jabberwock?

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"

He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe.

:( I feel your pain. I had them for two years. My advice would be try not to eat hot food for the first week cause it will burn even hotter. Also, try not to eat the braces. :P Anways, I hope you will feel better during the first week.

Velox is right. I just drank milkshakes. Fuuuuun.... After the first 3 weeks-month, you completely adjust to them. Dun't worry. It'll be over before you know it. Retainers are the real pain. >.>

There's nothing to worry about, on the whole. Just a few pointers;

1.) The first week. As so many of these members have said, it's pretty rough. I survived it with yogurt, applesauce, and... pudding. Oh yes, stock up on pudding. :P

And use plastic silverware! Hurts like heck if you accidentally chomp down on actual silverware. >_<

2.) Palette expander. Those things stink. Eventually, you get adjusted to the I-can't-feel-the-roof-of-my-mouth feeling, but stuff gets stuck up there a lot. For example, peanut butter. And white bread.

Yes, beware of PB&J's when you get the expander.

3.) Tightening. After a tightening appointment, make sure that you get lots of Advil (or whatever painkiller you might use) in your system, even if it doesn't hurt. Because if it doesn't, it will. Trust me.

It'd also be a good idea to stick to your yogurt/applesauce/pudding diet for the rest of that day.

4.) Rubber bands. Increasingly annoying, and they take a toll on your sanity. That's the step that I'm on right now. Just make sure you wear them a lot; dentists say 24/7, but as long as you wear them as you sleep, and as much as possible during the day, you'll be fine.

Getting them on is often the hard part. Patience. You get the hang of it.

Well, hope that helps. ^_^

Ha, I didn't use painkillers. :P

Just because you may be a mutant without nerves there doesn't mean we are. XD

Aw, I am going to need braces, probably... Good luck with the punishment improvements, Turkey.

I got mine when I was seven. Well, first, I got the palette expander, then a set of them on the top teeth, mmm, for about three years. Then just two years ago they redid the whole thing.Except this time they added a bottom set and no palette expander. Probably because when I was seven I didn't completely understand all the rules of stuff to eat and stuff not to eat. I still don't follow them THAT well, but I've learned.

I don't want to ize you with that, but just as long as you're not receiving them at age seven, follow the rules, and don't have an orthodontist as nutty as mine, then you'll be just fine. I admit, it hurts a lot on the first day, and also when they put larger wires in sometimes.

My pastor's daughter got them last year, and she was sixteen then too. She's getting them off this year, or so. Come to think of it, it was around this time when she got them put on as well.

So, every body's teeth are different, and hopefully your experience with them will be better than mine.

I'm not just crying because you'll have braces, I'm crying because...

...because...

...because...

...

I HAVE PERFECT TEETH AND I WILL NEVER NEED BRACES OR A RETAINER

I wish you luck with this, my fair maiden. With luck, you will look just as nice with them as you do without.

Yes, I'm afraid you're doomed.

You see, a garrison of anti-braces teams have formed together to eliminate every set of poor teeth in the universe. Unfortunately this means you have poor teeth, and they have orders to eliminate every pair, no matter the cost, even at the price of eliminating Ed.

But you could just ask them politely to not eliminate your teeth, and then they would politely reply "Okay", and then you're all set.

Maybe Turakii just wanted advice on surviving having braces?

Been there, almost done that, moaned about it in my blog. :P

Really, they're not that bad. Now I barely notice them. But you just need to be careful of breaking the brackets, and try not to swallow the bands. ;)

On the other hand, the first week or so (as well as just after major alterations) are really annoying. When they were first applied for me, I couldn't eat much at all, drinking felt weird, and coherent speech was an impossibility. I clearly remember spending my 14th birthday last year (two days after the initial application) incapable of talking, effectively spending the time rebuilding my old AT-AT.

Don't take the bad stuff too hard; it's worth it in the end to have nice-looking teeth and not have any neck or jaw pains in later life.

That's a disturbing coincidence... I'm dealing with bands now as well! :o

Interestingly, such adjustments have never really caused me pain. :shrugs:
