  1. The later storyline relied too much on books and not enough on engaging media.

    "engaging media"

There were too many characters, and too many transformations, many of which did not resemble the previous forms.

One could ask why someone would bother transforming to look the same.

Man, can you imagine if Transformers did that? Like Optimus would just transform into a slightly different looking Optimus and nothing else. That would be great.

Romance was made non-canon, robbing the story of sweetness and warmth.

Oh yes, the only way to add feeling to your story is to have romance in it.

Sets abandoned gear functions and complex designs to focus on cheap gimmicks, dumbing them down.

Oh man. It took me hours to build the toa mata. They where so complicated and- Oh wait... No. That's not right...

BTW. Anything from gear functions to posability is considered a "Gimmick". The gears where very limiting to how posability could work as well.

The 2005 arc was pointless because the ending of the Metru Nui flashback had already happened in the 2004 movie.

I forgot the rule where you can't go back in time to explain things in a story if you've already moved passed it.

I could probably nitpick most of the reasons given. But most of them are opinions, and not backed by much at that. And while having an opinion is great, you presented these as things that where wrong with the story, rather then you not liking them. and some need some explaining to make sense.

  2. That sounds like a reuse of a plot device which is not foreshadowing, especially considering Bionicle was probably either nonexistent or in early development at that time, probably with little story.

And Lego seems to do this a lot in stories. Bionicle wasn't foreshadowing HF or Ninjago in any way, but they do share elements.

  3. To add onto the post above, there was a period of time after the insanely long downtime where everyone recieved it.

And it's also worth noting that there is usually a sale during the anniversary, if you wait til then.

  4. As B6 stated above, lying about your age is not exactly a hard thing to do on the internet. (In fact I do it by accident on steam by forgetting to key in the information and end up getting myself locked out of games.) And at around that time it seems to be less socially acceptable to be into that kind of stuff, and from my experiences it's a fairly small minority who are open about it anyway.

But once I got into college it's Less unacceptable to like that stuff.(I kid you not, half of the campus had their 3DS's out the week after Pokemon X and Y came out, and I foresee a similar phenomenon once Smash bro's hits. Where just a year ago those where stupid kids games outside of the band room and other select groups.)

So I can kinda see where it makes sense, as it would seem to not fulfill it's purpose as much after that. and if it's aimed at that group anyway... Still seems odd to me...

  5. I prefer text and image myself. I can read through them and skip to what I'm looking for and it helps me know whether the set is worth it. Some of the features of the set can be better portrayed in a video, though. But pictures give better view of everything.

I also like it when we get a picture of all the pieces in an organized fashion, it lets me know what's in the box and whatnot.

  6. This game is awesome! I have a lot of fun playing it! Thanks Katuko!

Oh, and to make this comment useful, I'll pass on a little bug I found.  :)

When your toa is wearing a kanohi Huna and turns invisible, and then walks over to a miru and replaces their mask with that one, they stay invisible but also have the flight powers of the miru! I didn't test it with other masks but it might be the same case. The invisibility doesn't take any energy away from your character, so you're pretty unstoppable to everyone except toa wearing the Rode. It's kinda OP, I once got a hundred kills with that technique, and 0 deaths. I would've gotten more but being OP is pretty boring.  :P

We've known about that one for awhile actually. You'll be hard pressed to find a glitch we don't know about actually.

  7. You know the little things that came in the brain attack sets? If you have some I'd like to buy a few.

I'll probably also be looking for some other stuff just to make the package worth sending.

But if you have any misprints or Copper masks I might be interested, spare minifig odds and ends are always useful, and maybe some other spare Bionicle/HF bits or some HF minifigs, spider things or whatever they're called and possibly one of those cocoon things too. Post below if you would like to strike up a deal.

I'll use paypal and I'll cover shipping.

  8. attention everyone that probably said arcee isn't in foc. YOUR WRONG! She is a poster in the ruins mission with cliffjumper. You have to get noticed by the decepticons first chance, turn left, and head straight through the door that was sealed. Arcee is there, as a poster. Yw for the information, I accept my cash in advance, oh wait, i don't get paid...nvm!

Technically, that's a picture of Arcee if it is in fact there. So, no, She isn't in the game. But where did this come from exactly?

  9. Yeah, for the blind bag idea, I was thinking that they should just have a generic body design, with differently coloured armour with a mask to match it. And it doesn't neccessarily just have to be Matoran. There could be Agori with a similar build, and maybe some other Stars-style smaller versions of other characters. But each of the bags would come with a random weapon and collectible mask, that way no two are exactly alike.

The thing is, will Lego actually go and do this, or are we just tossing ideas around for no good reason?

I'm not sure it'll actually happen. But It would be cool if it did.

  10.

They could maybe, like, include a random blind bag item sorta thing in each set, and just encourage trading 'em to get what you want?

Sounds like a plan to me. Make it like a plastic version of Pokemon.

I don't know how that would work... If the sets are fairly large, say, $10 or more, it would be rather disappointing to get a repeat. Plus if there's more masks then sets then you either have to buy multiples or convince your friends to trade you more than one to get all of them. And if it's the same number then it seems pointless. The only way I see that working is if they brought back the old collectible filled boxes from early bionicle. We haven't seen those in awhile, I wouldn't bet on it.

  11.

You can't feel for special parts in blind BOXES.

Well you obviously need to step up your game.

You laugh, but you forget all the opened and unpaid mask boxes of yesteryear and what a giant headache that was.

I had almost forgotten about that. Though I have seen opened minifig bags. That just ruins the fun... Plus it's kind of illegal as the contents of the box/bag aren't yours until you fork the money over. But that never stops people....

Well you obviously need to step up your game.

I wouldn't mind seeing, say a blindbagged mask included with a small build figure, maybe of varying build, that way instead of getting a full repeat, you get a generic villager with a different mask, rather then the "Oh, that one again" problem.

  13. Since logic is at issue here, lemme cut in here.

All Pomegranate said was that if a lot of people are disagreeing with somebody, that's a reason to "consider" the somebody might be wrong. That isn't the same as saying the somebody is wrong because people disagree. Notice the wording:

the very fact that people are complaining about it and trying to explain should be enough to tell you that maybe you are wrong and need to consider what they're saying to you

Now I presume Pomegranate believes that view IS definitely right, but that conclusion wasn't worded as being based on the fact that many agree. It's based on all the other things Pom has said (and more; we could probably write more than the Encyclopedia Britannica on the subject).

But the point I was trying to make in my previous post is that definitively calling one side wrong and your side right is logically flawed.

Not if the statement is based on sound support. :)

However, you're right that it's important to avoid actually arguing "I'm right because people agree with me." That would work two-ways and would thus be a fallacy, but that wasn't the argument that was used, at least as I'm reading it.

    This is the issue though:

The difference here is that I am in the right, and have not been provided with any information that has proved me otherwise.

That is the very first unquoted thing in the post. That's kind of like starting your resume with: "You should hire me, here's why."

While yes that is the point, that probably wouldn't look too great.

You can't go into an argument like that. It just looks bad. And as I said earlier, it alienates the people who are on the other side of the argument, which exactly what you don't want in a discussion. If you aren't trying to open up the opposing sides eyes to your points then what is the point of having a five page long debate on it?

Like I said, I agree with Pom, but I don't think that's a great way to start a post in a situation like this, and most of the arguments in that post are pretty good ones and should be taken seriously by everyone in the debate. Which is why I take such issue with that.

  14.

    Because I am right.

That's subjective. Theoretically you could be wrong. I think you're right, because I totally think Bionicle had elements of sexism. But the point I was trying to make in my previous post is that definitively calling one side wrong and your side right is logically flawed. Of course you think your side is right and the other side is wrong. That's a given. But that doesn't make the other side inherently wrong. It just makes it wrong from your perspective.

Again, I do agree with you, so don't take this like an attack on the views you laid out. :P I'm simply pointing out that a definitive, "I'm right," is logically flawed.

    -Rez

Would you say you're right about that?

Well yes, but rather than saying he's right because he's right, he's saying he's right because that's fallacious logic.

In a discussion such as this it is perfectly well and good to believe you are correct, it seems pointless to discuss if you think otherwise. But saying that you are right in part of your argument is generally something that shouldn't be done. You can present evidence and give the reasoning behind your views but if you lead your post with "I'm right and here's why" you're potentially alienating half the argument because it's fairly reasonable to assume that you think that they are wrong. And if you lead the argument by saying anyone who apposes you is wrong then we just have a pointless debate that's not going to go anywhere.

Basically, While it is okay to think you are right, leading your argument with that probably doesn't do anyone any good.

Edit: And I say this even though I sympathize with Pomegranate's side of the argument.

  15. Well, if you look at something like... say...  Transformers, It took the original show like 2 seasons to actually move forward. Bionicle clearly had an end in mind, it wasn't simply: "Oh darn you have foiled me again see you net week." (Well okay it was kind of like that except it was see you next year but that's not the point.)

Once it hit Metru Nui it was clearly going somewhere.

  16. Hm. Interesting question. Of the sets I have, which is mostly heroes and at least half Surge.... I would say... I want to say brain attack surge but I think that at that point the heroes weapon design was not at it's best. But I'd still go with that one as it's my personal favorite.

But I'd also like to include breakout Evo and Rocka, as both have outstanding weapon designs for their launchers instead of one that feels tacked on.

  17. I'm going to echo what's been said above. And add:

If you simply ignore parts of a story you don't like, one could ask why you care about it at all.

You say that as far as you care the Toa mata never became the nuva. Which means the storyline no longer works.

The problem with that theory is that, even though you couldn't possibly know the intended path of the story you assumed you could do better. Meaning that before it all came to close you had already decide it wasn't worth your time. And that's all fine and dandy, but if everyone did that we wouldn't be able to discuss it. And since you couldn't have known the ending, there's no way you can simply decide: "that didn't need to happen." Or well, you can, obviously. But it doesn't work on several levels.

You mention batman as if there is one definitive batman universe. That's not really how it works. They're basically splinter timelines. They're all valid. The fans don't really get to decide whats canon. They can add to and change but it doesn't change the source material.

I could probably go further but it goes into how stories work and I'm sure nobody wants to read that.

  18. It probably doesn't help that the text was invisible to start with. I'll look at them to see. I'll edit in what I find.

Edit: The text is invisible. I'm assuming you made it that way in your profile. Just change the color in your settings. I doubt the staff is thrilled to have invisible text anyway.
