  1. So the Bohrok Va are some of my favorite sets released, I just love the idea of little scout/medic style villans who seek out fallen bohrok, and being sold right in the heart of my childhood, as well as their adorible compsure helps propel that opinion.

So I made a Bohrok Va MOC, Fehrok Va!

    http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/banana92/Recolors/20161020_223738.jpg

The idea is that I wanted something with a bohrok shield not present on other bohrok va, dark gray as a secondary came to mind because I chose the dark orange color for the set, and it suited the iron feel, also the smoke eyes helped with that vibe, I also wanted to use a weapon not used for any other set, so my recent trident fit the bill perfectly here

Now I wanted to make him different, and so I chose the extended waist akin to Gahlok Va, the neck however was sort of a happy accident, as I had already used one of my 2 dark orange 1# connectors on Pewku and couldn't find the second, in using this, I noticed it gave him a hunched look and it grew on me fast. His krana in theory will be light grey since they exist in hard plastic

So far I love the little guy and I plan on making a medium blue/turquise Bohrok Va soon when I get kongu's mctoran feet, the hard part will be the weapons and krana holder, I will use the minifig katanas in teal if I must though. The eyes might be yellow? or medium green? Not sure yet

  2. Is it possible to make an orange Bohrok? I know Furno's bike has the head piece in orange, but I'm not sure if there are any orange shields or feet.

Sadly no :( that being said the closest thing the orange shields are the dark orange kohrok kal shields, if you can use a little clever building you might be able however to swap black parts (like connectors, the bohrok head liftarm) with orange ones and make the body black to counter that, keetorange is probably the best bet as a secondary color and purple or dark gray eyes might be the best choice, the former being quite expensive however.

  3. Here's a moc of a recolored Bohrok Va

You all know I love them, and I just got two kohrok-kal dark orange shields, the secondary color and eyes are dark gray (trans the eyes) the mask would be light gray since those exist in hard plastic!

In accordance with bohrok, I loved the flexability allowed by the bohrol arms being avalible in so many colors, like making a red and keetorange, or green and dark green variant and so on, the visorak were similarly fun to customize!

Also the 2007 matoran are nice too because with Solek's mask on a white model, and Von Nebula's on a black model, you can make all 6 colors, and I have, also Dalu/Nokama can make a mata blue or medium blue one, and so on :)

  4. I also remember making a black/medium blue pokawi (same color scheme as the medium blue nui jaga) and a brown and dark gray one which I loved, or course I like them better with minifig katanas for beaks and still don't know why they weren't used on the original pokawi?

  5. This is a topic about official sets, or inspired sets you have created in new colors, like all the parts existing to make a metru green rahkshi, or red nui jaga, white nui rama, yellow/keetorange turaga, earth kohliitoran... have you ever made a set inspired by an existing set in a new color? if so, what was it?

  6. Got any more masks around, more specificly masks you've worked on, I've (slowly) taken up dying masks and got a damaged sand blue rau while trying to make a black rau

I used acetone, but will probably try almost boiling the masks next time, different colors sure play a role, anyway any suggestions would be much appreciated and if you have any customs plastic masks lying around for sale or trade just shoot me a message, I admire your work!

  7. I know I've been collecting 2001 style masks since they came out, as have many others, so I had to imagine...

What masks have you wanted but never quite seem to get your hands on, common masks, like from mask packs, or promotions?

For me it would have to be the orange vahi, still to this day I have yet to get one, and I know they were given out in walgreens way back about when the bohrok va came out, each time I went, they were out, of they didn't have them, and so in owning several bohrok va, I never once got my hands on that mask :D

  8. I'm quite sure it would be darker since yellow is a fairly pure and vibrant color, I think getting a method down for white parts would be the route to go, the only thing I have noticed is that different colors react differently to the dye, I tried dying a white akaku, tan komau, and light blue rau, the akaku and rau both tool slight damage from the acetone while the tan kau suffered no damage and seemed more ridged (granted the rau has become much stronger now, I imagine the mask has to dry over night to leech out any left over acetone) I would also say that tan took the least amount of dye but also took it very evenly, the rau is my favorite since it is almost a perfect match to sand blue and I plan on making a batch of sand blue masks in the future, we will have to cross pur fingers about the yellow ruru, the process is messy, but I as much as you want it to succeed

  9. I've always been curious if something like this could be done! I have no experience with this unfortunately, and usually opt for just spray painting pieces. If you have the dye, or the pieces however, would you be able to dye a ruru yellow for me? Not sure how much you would want to charge for it, But I would love to get a fake yellow ruru to complete my sand tarakava replica.

I may try, I might want to get down a method with a mask less expensive then a white ruru, like a white akaku first and go from there, I am thinking of using warm water in my mext attempt and possibly making a stand that can hold six masks at once, and submerge it, and if possible, one that rotates automatically, if I have time lol

Also I do plan on eventually documenting my results and proven methods as well as how much of one color makes a mask of that color (for example, I used black dye on a light blue rau and got a samd blue rau, almost a perfect color match, but damaged the mask with acetone) I may make a batch of light blue to sand blue masks here soon

  10. I was looking into information to dying parts, and took a look into Rit dye and acetone (to unintended results)and was wondering if there is a good way to either reach lego like colors with dyes, or melt down and reuse broken abs parts of the intended color and a cast

I meant to dye a rau mask black, but instead achived a color close to sand blue (which is totally fine) the mask however is bendable after an acetone bath which didn't leech the color I had hoped (however, I'm quite the rainbow right now) I may try the boiling water trick to, O hope it is easier on the plastic, since the pipe cleaner I used to hold the masks submerged left a bit of an impression, let me know what has worked for you or methods you have experimented with.

  11. I am also interested in an orange vahi, and a shadow kraata (any level is fine) also the black krana ca, dark grey xa I believe (the one that looks like bane >_<) both copper krana and the metallic green xa and the regular purple bo of they aren't reserved, if you still have a light purple krana, I will take one, which ever is fine -also, which 2003 matoran do you have?

Just out of curiosity, how much do trans-yellow Kaukau typically range in price?

I've seen them hover around $75 but they are valued at less, that's actually what I was looking for on ebay when I stumbled upon the mismolded kaukau nuva instead, right place, right time!
Definitely a lucky find if you weren't even looking for it. Haha.

I was hoping to acquire the yellow Kaukau for a unique Tohunga, but at that price it's just not going to happen. What are some of the cheaper masks? I don't think the original Mata masks in a dark gold-ish color run for much. I might actually get one for my Pohatu.

Gold kanohi aren't terribly expensive, usually a dollar each, and if you'd like to make a unique tohunga I found that the yellow komau from the manas set is a nice fit for a fire matoran, I also have a misprint green ruru and misprint brown matatu for my own tohunga as well and am happy witht then, but I'm a sucker for rurus anyway, they are my favorite and technically the most abundant mask with 15 different colors produced!
Once I figure out PayPal, I'll likely set up a thread detailing all of the items I'm looking for. Or maybe make a signature similar to Shattered Slumber's. Definitely want to grab a golden Kakama and perhaps all of the brown Toa Mata masks. Still wouldn't mind owning a misprint mask though. Do brown Rurus run for much?

Typically brown is the cheapest of the misprints (nobody want's to love brown :'( but I would say between $6-10 is a decent buy, I've seen them as low as 3, but also as high as 20, so just check up on that one, and get it while it's cheap, I believe I bought that brown matatu for about $6

  14. I'm looking to get a metru blue matatu for a little secret "project" of mine, and since I know of quite a few that exist I'm looking to trade for one, I've got a few little rare and unique goodies depending on who has one, or maybe I will buy one if the price is right, so let me know! If we work out a deal, I'll keep you posted on my project as well ;)

  15. not a good sign for me :D hahaha

So it arrived today, and it is as beautiful as it looked, I'll have pictures up soon, and it is mismolded

  16. I just wanted to put this out here for ideas, but I have challenged myself to build 100 rahi MOCs, with a couple of rules, they cannot use any soft plastic parts, except weapons before 2003, and infact cannot use parts from after 2003, and I will try to make 8 mocs in each of the 6 elemental colors, I cannot make official rahi even in other colors, but I can make rahi based on games, so that might throw 10 into the list. I will give as many as I can functions. So just shoot out some idea of animals in these catagories.

    -Mammals Ex. Goat

    -Primapes Ex. Monkey

    -Amphibians Ex. Frog

    -Reptiles Ex. Lizard

    -Fish Ex. Shark

    -Bugs Ex. Spider

    -Birds Ex. Hawk

    -Undersea Ex. Crab

  17. I'd like to get all the parts to make a metru green rahkshi, because I've wanted to since kongu mahri came out lol, otherwise, maybe like an ultimate villian or something, I'm looking at making a tan, sand blue, and black villian and giving him the most awesome back story and personality :P but it's just for fun. (I love unorthidox color schemes when they are balanced, my favorite I ever used was -maroon, metru green, light orange, and red- he was a plant life titan.

  18. That's what I am assuming, but since I don't have a second trans orange kraata, I cannot compare two side by side, I am uploading pictures to bricklink now, and will try deep linking the image links when I finish. these are the 4 best images I can upload right now
